About this property
The Old Weaver's Cottage. Traditional Welsh Cottage with woodburner and garden.
A traditional Welsh weaver's cottage built in 1824 with exposed wooden beams and a huge inglenook fireplace with a woodburner that provides the main source of heating. Retaining much of it's original character this is a no frills, basic, one up, one down cottage with a tiny kitchenette and shower room. It's a retreat from the modern world which has lots of period charm and a big comfy double bed in the bedroom but no WiFi or live TV signal. The bedroom shares access to both the kitchenette and shower room. There is also a small double sofabed downstairs. This is a property only to be shared by people who know each other well as soundproofing was not considered that important between rooms in 1824! Front and back gardens provide somewhere for you and your fluffy ones to be in better weather and garden chairs and a BBQ are provided. There is an allocated parking space which you can just about squeeze two cars into but we recommend this property to solo travellers, couples or small families (although no special facilities for children are provided). The staircase is orignal and tight so not recommended for people with mobility issues. The kitchenette and shower room with toilet are both on the first floor. It's quirky and cute! Beyond the front garden and between the house and the parking space is a road which has regular but not usually heavy traffic, behind the back garden is a railway line which has 11 trains a day passing. Pets are welcome, as is relaxing and enjoying the splendid scenery and all the local area has to offer. A 15 minute drive away is the beautiful market town of Machynlleth which has a great collection of shops and eateries, garages, a leisure centre, playpark and art galleries. A 25 minute drive North takes you into Snowdonia and stunning mountain scenery. Beaches are available at Aberdyfi (35 mins) and Barmouth (45 mins). The university town of Aberystwyth is also just 45 minutes away. An occasional bus service to Machynlleth and Newtown has a stop just across the road. In the hamlet of Commins Coch (meaning red common) is a fairly easy walk to the top of the common with great panoramic views and access to the river. A really great place to use as a base for exploring the delights of the local area. Please note, this is still quite an authentic traditional cottage, plug in radiators are provided but this cottage was designed to always have a big fire going to warm it through so you'll need to get a good blaze going in the burner to make this place really toasty in colder months. You will need to bring wood with you or buy it locally.
