This home is a gem! The location was great. Our family of seven enjoyed a weekend of luminaries, flotilla, parade, food, and shopping. We walked everywhere we went! Watched the sunset over the water too!
Would love to return!
Our stay at this home was absolutely wonderful.
Dealing with the host was great and very prompt. We needed an early check in and she was extremely accommodating.
We would book here again with no hesitation.
Thanks again
We enjoyed staying in this historic 2 story home with lots of room for reading and relaxing. Just 2 blocks from the river for a morning and evening stroll. I would book again. Thanks for hosting us!
The house is gorgeous, walking distance to all things Oriental. Kitchen is well stocked, comfortable living spaces for relaxing and socializing, beds are fabulous, screened in front porch was a wonderful gathering place for morning coffee. The host was so easy to communicate with and gracious beyond words. 5 adult women had a perfect weekend.
This older home was perfect for our family with 3 kids. Great location one block from the beach, one block from a park, and a few blocks from the shops on the main drag. The upstairs shower leaked through the ceiling, a known problem the owners were working on fixing, but we were fine using the other shower. We will definitely be back.
Wonderful Historical House that is a Great Place to Stay!
This house is great! It is spacious, peaceful, and homey. The photos and description of what to expect are very accurate. It has a great, historical vibe that makes you feel right at home. The bedrooms are very large and comfortable. The kitchen is very functional and has most everything you need to cook meals. We also used their gas grill that worked well for our purposes. We really loved this place and highly recommend it. We will try to rent it again in the future.
It was everything you could ask for in a vacation home. We had everything we needed and the host was very accommodating. We fell in love with the screened in front porch. This will be one of our highlights of the year.
We stayed here for several days over Thanksgiving. The house was clean, comfortable and charming in that quirky way that old houses are. We loved just sitting around chatting in the living room and walking down the road to the coffee shop and along the waterfront. It was too cold to sit on the front porch but that is a great feature I’m sure in warmer weather. My 89 year old mom said her bed was really comfortable and she slept well 😊This house has obviously been a special place to many people and has such a positive energy. My nieces loved hanging out together in the big bedroom upstairs with the 3 beds.We will definitely stay here again if we are ever back in Oriental again!
We had a wonderful experience staying here with family for the weekend. We have 3 kids (4, 6, and 9), and my parents joined us too. The kids shared a room and each had their own bed, with a bathroom just next door. The 2 living areas made it easy to spread out when we wanted to. We loved the proximity to the little beach, park, and town dock. We hope to stay here again in the future!
There were 5 of us ages 60-70. The house was perfectly comfortable for us and could easily have accommodated two more. The two of us who didn’t care for stairs could use the downstairs bedroom and bath. The short walk to “downtown” Oriental was just right and the owner’s recommendations for eateries and shopping were spot on.
Always love being at this lovely home with its generous space and wonderful front porch, and being within a short stroll to Lou Mac park and the little Town beach. Thank you for sharing this great place!
Such a comfy home in a quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed card games at the big dining room table and water fights in the yard. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was extraordinarily well stocked. I would recommend this place!

About the host
Hosted by Mary Sharpe
Our parents moved to Oriental in 1974 and created a home for all four of us kids as well as 10 grandchildren and now 14 great grandchildren (and growing we hope!) We spent every free moment there but particularly loved the Fourth of July Croaker Festival...Thanksgiving and Christmas. This home has lots and lots of memories and we'd love for you to build some there too!
What makes this property unique
One front screened porch (with rockers and swings) where you can sit and read or talk….our family loves early mornings and evenings there telling stories and reminiscing. You can see the River Neuse from that porch and get a good sense of what kind of wind is available for a sail… you might catch a whiff of the gardenias or other flowers in the garden depending on the time of year.
One back deck built around a Live Oak Tree where you can have a bite to eat.
Three bedrooms and two full baths….a king room….a queen bedroom and a bunk and twins room all sleeping 8 comfortably
One large dining that has been the scene of lots of Thanksgivings and family dinners of fried chicken….shrimp and oysters from the River and most importantly, LOTS of LIVELY conversation about everything you an imagine including religion AND politics…child-rearing and a little gossip about whoever is not there at the time….
One large Florida Room (thats a fancy name for the side family room) where we continue conversations after dinner and play games or watch a movie. We survived 39 years without much of a TV but agreed to add a big 54” flat screen last year for the enjoyment of our guests. Now we argue about whether its ”on” or ”off”! Enjoy some family time playing and talking and turn the TV on only if you run out of things to talk about! We also have internet if you really need to plug in to the world but try life in Oriental without it! You will love it!
One large kitchen which has produced some incredible meals and some other memorable times dying Easter Eggs and all of the things that families do in kitchens….again…think conversation and food!
One small breakfast room which holds the ”kids table” at Thanksgiving and other family dinners. Its small but we manage to get a lot of people around the table for breakfast or lunch shifts.
One living room which can be the quiet get-away place for those who need a little alone time for a nap or
