Spacious with old world charm

We enjoyed the huge apartment with its old world charm. While it had more than everything we needed - including a great kitchen to cook in - some amenities were slightly dated. Two out of three bedrooms were air conditioned, which worked for us but could have been tricky if it was significantly hotter. The location was wonderful- just on the edge of San Telmo with its myriad restaurants and bars but also on a main street so it was easy to catch a cab or uber. I would avoid this rental if you have kids (or adults?) that are prone to slamming doors as there are a number of old glass doors, which are beautiful but could be stressful for a young family. I would recommend it to anyone else.

Loved our stay!

We were fortunate to check in on the DAY the Argentinian soccer team came home from winning the World Cup, so the entire city was celebrating! The location of the apartment was fantastic for viewing from, and being a part of, the huge crowds in the streets! The apartment was beautiful, and the owner, as well as the apartment manager were amazing with communication and information. A few maintenance issues occurred which were addressed, so all was great. I loved staying there and would love to come back some day! Perfect location for walking and sightseeing, and loads of information in the apartment about places to see and to go out to dine. Thanks so much for an unforgettable stay!

With one glaring exception, a nice enough place.

By way of preview: We could have found a hot plate and toaster oven elsewhere for a lot less. This is a nice enough place: Spacious rooms. High ceilings. Tile and original hardwood floors. Lots of period furniture and accents. And all very clean! But we rented this place for its kitchen--and we were willing to pay a premium price to do so. When traveling, we still like to cook a lot. In a photo of the kitchen we could see a spacious countertop with a sink and large stove. We imagined the large oven below. Listed in the amenities was: "Stove, it needs matches to activate flame." We arrived and were shown the apartment by an agent of the absentee owner. Finally we entered the kitchen. "This kitchen is why we rented this place!" we exclaimed! Yes, it is a nice kitchen, the agent responded, but unfortunately the gas was turned off to this building years ago. The stove and oven don't work. What!! Instead we were directed to use a two-burner hot plate and a toaster oven. And oh, by the way, you need to go into the utility room and unplug the water heater when you use these appliances or you will blow a circuit breaker. After she left, we discovered that the available cookware was sized for the large gas oven that didn't work. It did not fit into the toaster oven. Other than this one glaring problem, this place is nice enough. But we would never have rented it had we known. There are many rentals all over Buenos Aires with hot plates and toaster ovens or their equivalent.

Wonderful apartment, central

We stayed for 1week, with our 2 sons, in the amazing city of Buenos Aries in this gorgeous apartment that was so great to come home to. Communication was excellent, we loved the restaurants in the area or just a taxi away. Do not miss the San Telmo Sunday market or the San Telmo Mercado. Thank you Joe!

Lovely Apartment to Call Home while in Buenos Aires

We are an elderly couple who with our daughter stayed one week in this apartment. It is decorated lovely and interestingly and gives one a taste to what it was like living in these beautiful buildings decades ago. It is located in a very accessible area. If you plan to eat in at times go to the San Telmo market otherwise there are small mini markets for basics near by. Buenos Tours with Don was very good to get more in depth insight into the city. He is from North Carolina and aside from English he speaks Spanish. We enjoyed our stay both in the apartment and the city.

Awesome experience!

We loved the apartment from the moment we glimpsed it on the Home Away app but when we walked in the door our hearts were stolen gasping in wonderment at the beauty and decor in each room. No one really wants cook on vacation, but this kitchen Begs to be put into use and to invite friends over for dinner to enjoy it as well. It's not in a touristy area which is fine because transportation is available very close by in whichever form you prefer. We walked to a lot of the tourist spots (Casa Rosado, Mercado de San Telmo Cafe Tortoni's Avenida de 9 Julio) and felt very safe doing so. The security and the front locked door (evening) was also very reassuring. We truly appreciated having extra towels, pillows, blankets and sheets available if necessary as well as the amenities in the kitchen. (Great pans, dishes, soaps, towels etc) Communication with the owner was optimal: quick response timeframe, very helpful, informative, and very kind. We can't wait to come back and stay again because it has been such a great and easy experience!!

We are International travelers ourselves and Antique collectors and Antique dealers and we like to enjoy life, that's one reason why we acquired it in 2004, while traveling in search of antiques, we fell in love with the city and the architecture and the people. The Apartment was specially selected to enjoy our traveling experiences in Buenos Aires. Our other home is in Lake Arrowhead, California a mountain town where we have lived 27 years.

Why they chose this property

We are the third owners of this apartment.
Before they where apartments it was a hotel, then in the 1950's the government of Argentina passed a law that many buildings could be apartments. The first owner was a lady that owned it from the 1950 to 2002, then a French chef and his wife owned it, then us in 2004 to the present. We fell In love with Buenos Aires and we looked for something unique and Antique, our realtor kept taking us to big houses and modern old buildings that did not fit our eye, but one day driving trough Avenida Belgrano we saw that sign that said "SE VENDE" we made the realtor call to make an appointment and that day with no hesitation we put the offer in. The building is Antique and Amazing it has 24 hour security, the Apartment was remodeled 2 years previous owners who decided to move to France. The views from the Balcony did it too, we made the offer and 6 months later we made it happen, we got in and painted, furnished and restored the bathroom to our likes and made it our home away from home.

What makes this property unique

What made our decision to purchase the apartment was the history and the architecture of the building, that was built in 1912 and with the preserved architecture of the building with all the details that it has from the antique marble floors when you come in the entry way, the tall mahogany doors and the 2 balconies that when opening the French doors you get to enjoy the view form the city and get the fresh air the " buenos aires ". The kitchen also did it for us all custom-made by the French chef that previously owned the apartment. We found out that many Europeans moved to buenos Aires in the 1920's bringing their personal possessions and the unique antiquities, from Italy, France, Germany, England, etc. That made also for us a better decision to purchase because we love the search for the unique.
