Summer tranquility
It was our first time in Sisal and we had an amazing 10 days at Marty’s place. The house is right on the beach and it has everything that you could possible need. Most importantly, we felt safe at all times and knew we could go next door to ask Marty any questions we had. The rental is incredibly clean and we honestly hope to go back someday.

Laidback Getaway
The property was just as described and well maintained. The beach was only steps away and beautiful. Only a short walk to town by beach or street. Sisal is a very quiet little village, but you’ll find a couple of good restaurants and stores that should meet most of your needs. There is a Walmart at Caucel, on the edge of Merida, if you need more. Marty was always available by phone when we needed anything and so gracious. Betty was a delight and a good cook. Marcos was very helpful and fluent in English. The week passed way too quickly.

A warm respite from a cold winter.
Sisal is a quiet little seaside town, not yet as fully developed as, say, Progresso, into a tourist destination. That may be changing however, as there is a lot of construction beginning to happen. This property, Sisal sur Mer, is ideally located right on the beach, a quarter mile east of the central part of Sisal. The neighbourhood is generally quiet except occasionally on weekends when locals from Merida tend to arrive. The house itself is a lovely reminder of the Spanish colonial days, but has been updated with modern appliances and conveniences, Wifi is super fast. Beds are comfortable. The pool is delightful. And of course, the beach and ocean swimming was wonderful. But the most praise is reserved for the hospitality of Marty, our host, who lives next-door, and for Betty and her son, Marcos, two locals who also live in the compound. Marty was very prompt in responding to a couple of minor problems, and Betty was so very helpful when we needed assistance finding medical care. She also was periodically providing us with her home cooking throughout our stay, and we will remember a great night when we accompanied her and her son to Sisal's last night Carnival celebrations. She is a gem. Our only recommendations for improvements are comfier living room furniture (softer upholstered chairs would be nice), and maybe a few wall hangings on the bare stucco walls to improve the acoustics of the rooms. All in all, this was a great place spend a month in late winter.

Perfect stay for those wanting to relax and get away.
Beautiful spot on the beach with a refreshing pool, great hosts, and a taste of simple Mexico life. Marty was so accommodating and went out of his way to ensure we had a great stay. His friend Betty brought over delicious food, her son Marcos chatted with us about his hometown, and the weather stayed hot and sunny. Great way to wxperi nice the laid back lifestyle of Mexico with more privacy and authenticty than we could hope for.

Stunning beach house off the beaten path
The Sisal Hacienda is right on the most glorious beach you could hope for. We had the beach practically to ourselves, marvelling at the literally thousands of flamingos flying overhead to their breeding grounds in the lagoons of the Sisal nature reserve. The bird life is amazing, with beautiful brown pelicans and seabirds diving into the turquoise water right in front of the beach house. The white sand beach is very clean, with a shallow, sandy entrance and calm waters. Walk 5 minutes down the beach to the beach bar and pier, perfect for watching the sunset. Our hosts were so helpful and generous. They helped us set up our guided day trip to the nature reserve, navigate shopping and even welcomed us with 2 beautiful home-cooked meals. The house is spacious, comfortable and clean. We cooked quite a few meals and the kitchen is very well-equipped. There is a swimming pool great for cooling off and the kids had a ball in the pool. There are a bunch of coconut palms on the property and our kids spent many joyful hours attempting to knock coconuts off the trees. Our hosts were so kind to machete them open and give the kids straws to drink the delicious coconut water. We visited a couple good restaurants in Sisal. Sisal is a peaceful, charming, sleepy seaside village unmarred by tourism or commercialization. What a gem of a place.

Paradise in the Yucatan
We spent a blissful week after Christmas at this gorgeous property right on the beach in Sisal. The location is fantastic, right on the peaceful turquoise water and the town of Sisal is very quiet and the perfect antidote to the cold and hectic East Coast. Marty was a superb host and went above and beyond to make us feel at home: he suggested restaurants, helped us hire a fishing boat, found us Covid tests and more. We would highly recommend this property and love to return again soon. Thank you Marty for your generous hospitality!

Peace and quiet.
This place is perfect if you are looking for peace and quiet. Lots of nature, miles of deserted beach and the sound of waves. The house has everything you would ever need. A well stocked kitchen, games and puzzles, bogie boards, hammocks.... The town is a short walk down the beach. I can hardly wait to come back! Marty, Betty and Marcos, thank you so much for everything! You all are the best.

Coronavirus changed our plans
Unfortunately we had to camcel our trip because of the epidemic. Our host Marty has been very generous and has allowed us to use our paid-up reservation whenever things return to normal. His communications have always been prompt, friendly, and most gracious. Although we haven't yet met, we feel we have an old friend in Sisal.

Great way to spend February
The owner Marty and his team were very attentive and ensured we had a lovely stay. The view each morning and being directly on the quiet beach was fantastic. Sisal is a distance from all activities which is a plus but does make it necessary to have a car and travel for most major grocery hauls and activities. It was a great holiday and weather couldn’t have been better. If I was to improve one thing it would be more comfortable seating in the living room and outdoor area. Other than that we had only good things to say about our stay.

Could not have been more perfect! Beautiful spot in a sleepy little town , right on the beach.
We loved this place!! Marty is a wonderful host. The house was spotless and had everything weneeded. The view, the breeze, the white sand beach, water, the sleepy little town, the birds, the wetlands, the pulpo de la plancha at Palapa de Soco... what can I say? We are so happy we came and so sorry to leave. We took a great kayak tour of the wetlands with Eduard Cruz (Motoventurs Sisal) Don’t miss this!! La ciénaga is magical. Thank you Marty for sharing this amazing place !

Amazingly Tranquil
Marty Patrick has an amazing property. You can have your morning coffee on the back patio and watch the local fishermen pass by in their boats. The pelicans and terns put on a display while driving for bait fish. Swim in the ocean or pool or just chill out. Marty goes to great lengths to insure your stay is memorable. However, remember that Sisal is a small fishing village, not Cancun. If you want an all night party atmosphere, go to Cancun. But if you want a real small town tranquil mexican experience, go to Sisal and Sur Mer. You will have only one regret, that you'll eventually have to leave.

The raw beauty and tranquility were striking
The raw beauty and tranquility were striking. The Guest House was spacious and well-designed with much of the furniture handmade locally. The fully equipped kitchen allowed me to prepare great fresh meals brought in from the sea daily. The house was wonderful but the ocean views from our terrace and The Cantina took my breath away. We found the perfect vacation retreat and for all its comforts, beauty and ocean views, it was Marty’s hospitality that made our stay so special. This is what we had hoped it would be; peaceful, relaxing and soothing.

A little piece of paradise
We (that includes my husband and me and our three boys, 12, 12, 15 years) stayed in Sisal for the last two and a half weeks around Christmas and New Year. It is a great place to be, we really loved it. The house has everything you need, I prepared our Christmas dinner without issues, and everything was in really good shape. The location is just amazing, you step out the patio door and you see the ocean and just after a few steps you're in. Marty, the owner, lives just next door, which is great, because he's always there to help or to answer every question. He really takes care of the property and is a wonderful host. Sisal is a bit of a remote location, so it's perfect for people who want it to be quiet and peaceful and it helps if you speak at least a little bit spanish. Nevertheless, if you have a car, which I would absolutely recommend, you can do easy day trips to Merida, Uxmal or Chichen Itza. For us as a family Yucatan was a perfect decision and we always felt safe. I would always recommend it to friends and family.

Fabulous! Fabulous! Fabulous! Don't Miss This One. Sisal Sur Mer Is A Bucket List Place.
My wife and I booked at the suggestion of a friend, What a great recommendation. Our time here was perfect in every way but way too short. This was the best, most relaxing, vacation we ever had. Everything was better than described and better than shown in the photos. The owner, Marty, told me that he is always improving the property but he is lax at updating the photos. Sisal Sur Mer is a truly special place with all the amenities of home in a secluded ecotouristic locale. I returned home rested, relaxed and ready to conquer the world. The other reviewers were right. Marty is an extremely attentive, knowledgeable and gracious host. I usually don't return to places I visit but I will be back. Take my advice. You won't regret it. This place is a winner.

Thanksgiving week in Sisal
Nine glorious days away from the crowds and the tourist industry. It was wonderful sleeping with open windows. The only sound was the movement of the waves. It was music. The only attachment to the world as we know it was the phenomenal internet connection. For those who are concerned, Yucatan state is the safest area in Mexico with serious check points on all highways going in and out. They want to keep it that way. Check it out. It was worth it!!!

Perfect!
Marty’s house was exactly what we were looking for. It was right on the beach with its own garden with palm trees and small Pool, hammocks swinging on the terrace in the shade. Extremely relaxing. We Seemed To be the only foreigners in town and the beach was empty except for easter weekend. Marty was consistently helpful when we needed anything but otherwise left us our privacy. The thousands of Flamingos migrating overhead daily from their feeding to their resting grounds was a spectacular added Bonus!

Beautiful Beach Front Home
We really enjoyed our stay at Sisal sur Mer, the house is spacious, clean, well maintained and right on the beach. The pool is a really nice added bonus. The owner, Marty, is a very friendly guy with a great sense of humour. Even more importantly, he is there and very responsive if there is any issue whatsoever. We had a problem with the fridge during our stay, we told Marty and it was promptly fixed. Sisal itself is kind of a sleepy town, the beach is mostly empty except on weekends when families from Merida come out. It is a good place for r & r and getting away from it all. If you need more excitement, Merida is only 45 minutes away. Overall we had a very nice stay and would highly recommend it if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and private place on the beach.

If you are looking for a nice, clean, peace and quiet place, this is it!
This place is so nice. When you arrive, Marty welcomes you with open arms. He'll give you a little tour of the place to make sure that everything is perfect and then bam, desapears like a Ninja! Very spacious and comfortable for a family of 5-6. Everything you need is right there, comfy beds, deck, pool, and you are right on the beach! Sisal is a very quiet little town, the people are extremely nice and what else can I say, we had a perfect time there. Again, thank's for everything Marty. A peaceful, relaxing vacation
If you want to get away, away from busy tourist destinations, and if you are the type who would never book an all-inclusive resort stay, then the village of Sisal and Sisal sur Mer is the perfect place for you, your friends and your family. This house is exactly as it is described, faces the beach, and the sand, and you can choose to swim in your own, private pool too. You won't run into a lot of tourists in Sisal, but you'll find several good restaurants, and plenty of corner stores for the basic necessities. Everything else you need to get in Merida, before you get on the road for the 50-minute drive (or slightly longer, if you're on the wrong road) to Sisal.

Pink Flamingos and Stunning Sunsets!
My wife and I spend many years traveling to the Mexican Caribbean. I only wish we knew of Sisal much sooner. It is what the resorts of Cancun and Playa de Carmen must have been 30 years ago. The people are genuinely friendly and helpful. The beaches are exquisite and secluded. All this right in front of Marty's establishment, Sisal sur Mer. The beautiful Gulf of Mexico with it's white sand beaches are steps from the house. The fresh water pool is amazing after long walks on the beach. In the evenings we made a point of watching the flamingos and the best sunsets we have ever witnessed. We never felt like renters but friends. Betty, his property manager, is the sweetest and most kind person always willing to provide information or assistance. We were so pleased that I am writing this review while sitting on Marty's porch. Yes, a second visit in less than a month. Please keep in mind that this is a working fishing town everything is not groomed and perfect like the tourist traps of Cancun and Playa de Carmen. The signs of change are here, improved infastructure and the beautiful new homes being built. We feel fortunate to have experienced this place in it's current unspoiled state. We highly recommend Sisal sur Mer!

En anglais: you get better than what you see on VRBO!
