Our stay was awesome! We had small grandchildren from almost one to 8 and this was the perfect place for them. There was a great beach just the right size and the older kids loved swimming out to the floating dock. The deck in front of the house is right on the water. I loved sitting out there every morning—it was so peaceful! The kids loved the family of ducks that came around twice a day! Frank and Gail, the owners, were so welcoming and we all loved their dog Rocky who played in the water with the kids. The house was so clean with a big kitchen and living room. The bedrooms were great and the air conditioning was perfect with all the 85 degree days. We are definitely going back. It was the perfect week.
Perfect for our family and small gathering of friends for Graduation Potluck celebration. Grads prepared food for party in nice kitchen and ate out on dock.
Thank you!
We had a wonderful, relaxing week! The location is beautiful! Gail and Frank were wonderful hosts, very kind, attentive and helpful. We had some rain while we were there, and they were so thoughtful, offering us passes for a local museum. We didn't wind up using the passes though, as we were happy to sit on the beautiful porch and read and enjoy the rain (and a beautiful complete rainbow that appeared afterward)! The kids loved swimming in the lake and really enjoyed the floating dock. We will definitely plan on returning to this location! If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, beautiful getaway, this the place for you!
What a perfect location for graduation weekend festivities. We were able to bring our boat so our graduate and his friends could enjoy the lake and family/friends could relax on the porch or dock. Plenty of space to spread out, wonderful set up in kitchen for cooking, serving meals, etc. The place was spotless and Frank and Gail were delightful hosts.
We had an enjoyable and relaxing week even though it was during a significant rain storm. It is quiet and has a private feeling. The owners are next door and are happy to provide help when needed. We enjoyed the lake: swimming, fishing, kayaking and just relaxing and visiting with the nice view. The nearby rail trail provides for biking and waking. There is a beautiful waterfall a few miles away.
There's not much to add to the great reviews others have left, which we found to be accurate. My wife, two teenage boys, and I stayed here for nearly a month this summer to get away from the city during the pandemic. It turned out to be exactly what we needed. The wi-fi was sufficient for working remotely (including video), and the location and tranquil beauty of the grounds and the lake would be hard to beat. In addition to the great porch, lawn, and dock, we found the location right near the black diamond trail to be a boon. The kids and I rode bikes there as often as we could, and my wife walked to Ithaca every day down the trail to Cass Park, and then downtown. And the lake activities, with two kayaks and two paddle boards available, kept us occupied as well. The owners, as others have mentioned, live next door and are always attentive and quick to respond to any issue that could arise - they were splendid hosts. All in all, a fantastic location and a fantastic trip!
The perfect retreat during the pandemic.... and, anytime!
Gail, Frank and Rocky have created a tranquil, beautiful setting with their house on the lake. Perfectly situated, a lawn runs to water’s edge, giving lovely space to play or sit before and after a swim. From the front porch, we began each morning watching the sun rise in the sky, gently transitioning us into the day.The house itself embraces. Our family felt at home and fully at ease, not only because it offered everything we needed but because of the owners’ generously of spirit. Should the opportunity arise again, there is no question but that we would like to return. It was a dream!
My wife and two grandchildren (7 and 5) had a lovely week here. The location directly on the lake is excellent and a very real convenience having young children and their visitors. The covered front porch is perfect for hosting and enjoying eating outdoors. We appreciated the use of kayaks and paddle boards that came with adult size life vests (we borrowed children's life vests from friends). There is a raft a little ways off shore that is easy to swim to (and great for diving) but unfortunately does not have a ladder, making it challenging for young children as well as older adults (us) to climb on. A ladder would seem an easy improvement to create an even more perfect vacation space.
Renters should be away that the bedrooms are small - and space is tight but not as tight as the photos suggest. Closet space is fine, bathrooms fine and the kitchen large - with plenty of work space and good range of pans, dishes, glassware, etc. We would recommend this rental, though keep in mind it is older, not high-end luxury, but highly pleasurable for its location and overall ease of staying for a week with children who enjoy the water.
Such a great week at the cottage. Literally right on the water with paddle boards and kayaks freely available.
Gail and Frank were such lovely hosts, allowing our kids to play in their yard and with their adorable puppy
Great location, great amenities. We hope to be back
We spent Memorial Day/Cornell Commencement Weekend at Sunrise Cottage and it was a wonderful stay. My family traveled to Ithaca to attend our daughter's college graduation. The cottage was a perfect place for our family to gather. We had been provided accurate instructions for seamless check-in. The owners Gail and Frank stopped over later to introduce themselves and say hello. They are a very nice couple who clearly have invested a lot of time and energy in maintaining this lovely property. Yes - it is rustic but everything is impeccably fresh and functions well. The kitchen and baths are well stocked with extras that many places may not provide - such as coffee, condiments, soaps, paper towels etc.
We enjoyed dinners on the spacious porch and coffee there as well. Each morning, we watched the wildlife from the comfortable cushioned deckchairs, observing a chipmunk scurry across the green lawn, a family of ducks swim near the shore, and great blue herons soar across the water. It's private too.
The cottage has wifi and a large flat screen tv, and plenty of board games too. For lake fun, there are kayaks and a beach with a floating dock for swimmers to climb on and jump off of.
For the traveler who has some mobility impairment, note there is a bedroom and bathroom on the main floor. Single car parking near the main entrance is close by. If there are multiple cars, these vehicles park in an area behind the cottage. An outdoor staircase runs from this secondary parking area down to the cottage's back entrance which opens onto the second floor.
The beds are comfortable and we all slept well. Guests should bring towels and sheets. If you use more than one pillow, bring these as well.
Finally, this is a great place to stay for those who enjoy quiet, scenic beauty of the lake but also would like easy access to downtown Ithaca.

The lake. The lake is the charm
The property is pure Ithaca. The house is on the water—so convienent for children. The proximity to Ithaca also helpful as we were there for family reasons. Our only concern is the house needs to be updated.

A good time was had by all three generations!
The house is an old style, well loved and cared for. Everything was clean and worked well. Easy access from house to beach for little ones. Kayaks and paddle boards were favored activities with older ones. Spacious lawn, porch and decks for eating, playing, napping and reading. Kitchen was big and easy to work in. Dishwasher and clothes washer and dryer were great to have available. Owners next door shared lots of interesting information about the area.

A BIG Slice of Heaven!
This house is truly special... my family and I rented it for a one week vacation and it was everything we could have asked for and more. The location was perfection, right on the lake with a little stony beach for the kids to play on and a dock and porch for the adults to enjoy the view or do some swimming as well. The house itself was clean, well maintained, and had everything we could have needed. The owners, Frank and Gail, were the best neighbors you could ask for. Quiet but also friendly and helpful. They really went above and beyond to make this a wonderful vacation for my family and we could not have been happier. We will definitely be coming back again.

Treasure on the Lake
We had the most wonderful time at this beautiful home on the lake! The house itself is immaculately clean, well stocked and comfortable. The views are amazing and the experience was fantastic. So much better to stay in a home where everyone can be together. We will definitely be back. Thank you Gail and Frank for making our special weekend so great!

A beautiful lake home - great for groups - plenty of outdoor space for summer fun
Gail and Frank were lovely hosts! I visited with a group of 8 friends for our college reunion, and we couldn't have had a better time. Their home is so charming, and you couldn't ask for a better location. I'd stay again in a heartbeat!

Eye catching castle home at lake level is the perfect getaway! Fabulous porch facing the lake offers tranquility, sweet sunrises and makes your morning cup of coffee extra special. Home has lots of character, is bright, spacious and impeccably clean.
Enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking and more at this very special place.
A rare gem in a convenient quiet setting!

Paradise on Cayuga Lake
This beautiful house, superbly appointed, promoted a perfect mix of tranquil relaxation on the spacious dock and porch with the many enriching activities to be found in and around Ithaca, such as Buttermilk and Taughannock Falls and the various attractions to be found on the Cornell campus. The congenial owners were not only landlords, but fine neighbors, ready to advise and assist if and whenever they might be needed. All systems in the house were of the highest quality, the kitchen spacious and workable, the sleeping quarters comfortable. The gentle cadences of the lake water, the presence of lake wildlife (particularly the herons and other birds) and the feeling of seclusion at night on the dock gives the vacationers a sense of a transport to another simpler and richer time. At one point in our week, the house easily accomodated eight people without the slightest sense of crowding. I would number at least four separate areas on the property (the dock; three separate places on the large front porch) where one could settle in for some reading, some water-gazing and some pure contemplation. This was a week in paradise.

Wish we could stay longer
We spent a wonderful week relaxing, swimming, kayaking, boating and fishing.
Location is conveniently close to Ithaca with its many restaurants, hiking trails and other attractions.
Driveway goes all the way down to the cottage and waterfront rather than having to go down several flights of stairs as with some cottages.
The cottage was clean and comfortable with plenty of room and then some for our family of four. My favorite part was the front porch with comfortable seating for reading or just watching to boats go by and a picnic table for meals and board games. When I wasn't enjoying the porch, I could be found in a lounge chair on the dock which was delightful as well. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked and the downstairs bathroom is large and contains a washer and dryer which was very helpful with beach towels and bathing suits.
Owners are close by and very helpful.

great place for outdoor activities and Ithaca too
We really enjoyed our week at this house. Great porch for sitting on - and watching the sun come out over the lake, and the dock was wonderful for sunning and reading. (Those Adirondack chairs are really delightful!)Although houses are nearby - the house faces in such a way that you have a lot of privacy.
The property was clean and rooms were comfortable. The owners were helpful.
Since the lake is right there - we spent a lot of time kayaking and swimming. (Saw quite a few fish too, though we weren't fishing.)
Also within a few miles of lots of amazing hiking trails (the slogan Ithaca is gorges really is true), Ithaca, and wine country.
No air conditioning - but lake breeze made that fine, for most of the time.
All in all, would be very happy to spend another vacation here!
