Is it possible to leave six stars? This place deserves it.
We had a wonderful stay at Pyrates Lair. The home was exactly as described, the communications with the owner Were fantastic. I believe he must live online. He responded so quickly.
It truly is a special place, and was a special time.
The house was beautiful and just as described. The location was perfect for my family. The location was perfect with lots to do nearby. Would definitely recommend.
We had a great stay at Pyrate’s Lair! We have stayed at several homes on St.George through the years, and this was the most peaceful! John was a wonderful, communicative host who addressed any concerns quickly. The sunset views over the bay were spectacular! The inside and outside living spaces were very spacious and the home was well-equipped! Great week!
My family and I had a wonderful time on the island- and were thrilled with Pirate’s Lair! The home is spacious and had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves! The porches were fabulous and the view of the bay was just incredible! The dock made boating daily easy! And the owner was quick to respond to any questions we had! If you’re looking for a home to house your large family and still have the peacefulness of nature all around, Pirate’s Lair is your slice of paradise!

Outstanding
We loved this property. Amazing porches. COMFY! Easy to be in. John was readily available and we felt like he wanted us to have a great time. Super easy to work with. I look forward to going back and will tell friends about it for sure!
I can’t say enough good things about this property or this host! The house, the view, the convenience to beach access, and the host are all amazing! I almost hate to leave this great review bc I want to be sure this house is available to us in the future! Even tho we had a rainy week, we loved watching the bay from the porches! We’ve been visiting SGI for more than 30 years and this place is in our top 3 of all time! Thanks so much to John for sharing this little slice of paradise!
I have been vacationing on St. George Island since I was a child and am now, for the past few years, bringing my children. Pyrate's Lair is one of the nicest rentals we have stayed in. The kids really dug the pirate theme. Everything was clean and beautifully decorated. The views of the bay and sunset are incredible. The owner, John, was very attentive and always available to help and super nice. Our only complaint is that the boys wished for a better fishing dock. Other than that, we would definitely stay here again.
Location on the bay provided beautiful scenery. The screen porches were our favorite part of the house. Disappointed in the size of the room with the 3 bunks and the room with the office bed. To claustrophobic for our kids but we worked it out. Kitchen was adequately stocked…could use a new coffee pot. Not a lot of traffic and the beach was easy to get to and not crowded. It was a fantastic and relaxing week. Hated to see the week end.
We spent a week at this property with multiple family members coming and going throughout the week. While the property was not cleaned when we arrived, the owner was very prompt to answer our requests and questions. I still gave that 5-stars; it's hard to control what other people/companies do when you're not in the same state with them. We loved the size and layout of the property. The porches and views were magnificent. The walk to the beach was a bit of a workout - especially with 4 little ones. But we discovered parking at the clubhouse and going that way - which made things much easier. I would definitely stay here again!
We visited Pyrate's Lair for spring break for my HS & college aged daughters and their friends. The house is amazing.
Exceptionally clean, plenty of space, 2 sets of screened porches & living rooms on different levels for those wanting space. Elevator was excellent as Dad got to do all the loading/unloading.
There is plenty of parking, both covered for multiple cars and big driveway for boat/trailer. There was a cold front that sucked the water out keeping us from tying our boat up to the dock, but we still used it for sunsets (& fishing) every day. There are 3 different ramps within 5-25 minutes depending on what sized boat you have.
John is very communicative & helpful with details about the house, dock, neighborhood, and area.
We will definitely be back!
This was our 2nd stay at Pyrates Lair. We were there 4 years ago in 2017 for the first time and discovered a great house and location. The online listing does not do this house justice. The property is secluded and offers both the peacefulness of the Bay and a short walk to the sandy beaches of the Gulf. The views of the bay are expansive across the entire house, the size of the lot is huge and the neighboring lots are covered in foliage, having not been developed yet. Looking out on the bay - it was very quiet and I felt like we were alone on the island. The docks were a pleasant and successful fishing diversion and we also brought a canoe and boat with us. It's a direct, short walk (.2 mile) down a nature trail to the beach. We visited the pool with grandchildren one day and it is also very close (2 blocks). It wasn't crowded and there is plenty of pool furniture and shade. The house, including a second living area with sleeper sofas (bonus room!) and screened porches on the 2 top levels are generously furnished. We also appreciate having an elevator to get supplies up and down from the 3rd floor kitchen. The beds are all very comfortable and there are a lot of them. We have a big family and we were very comfortable spreading out. I would definitely stay at Pyrates Lair again.
House was really pleasant. It is just a short walk to the beach. My daughter and niece really loved the Olympic pool in the neighborhood. Dock lifts were inoperable, but that was disclosed at the time of the reservation. We brought our 19' Yamaha SX190, and tied off without any notable issues. I would caution against taking anything larger like a 26' I/O cuddy might not be best suited for the depth at this particular dock. However, if you are in a 15' fishing boat or a jet drive, it should be fine. With regards to the house, it has a great feature for people with kids. There are two living rooms. We brought a roku stick and connected it up to John's TV. The kids were able to watch their stuff, whilst the adults watching “boring” things upstairs. Overall, the house was clean, and in good shape. You will appreciate the elevator to help bring in groceries, baggage, etc. There was plenty of space for three cars and a boat to be parked in the drive. House is very secluded as there are no houses on either of the adjacent lots. One of the best features is that John's house is dog friendly. So it cuts down on about a 400 dollars in doggie daycare that normally gets tacked on to these trips. Overall, I think I wouldn't mind staying here again, and I think my friends would enjoy this place as well.
The house is secluded and on the bay. About two blocks to community pool and clubhouse. Bring your bikes. There are great bike paths all over. Comfortable and pretty well equipped. Bunk room is very small.
Our family was so happy that we were able to get together after being apart for so long through Covid - Once we were all immunized we found Pyrates Lair and had a wonderful time together!
Accommodations were great and the views were stunning!
We have rented on the island before but this property is our favorite so far!
We would highly recommend spending some time here to anyone else looking.

I bought the land in 2012 and completed the property by the end of 2013. I also own property in Taos NM. My main residence is in Grapevine TX. I love both the mountains and the island and feel very fortunate to be able to enjoy both.
Why they chose this property
This place is very unique in that its not over developed. Im learning all about living on the water and the wildlife in the area. the views speak for themselves
What makes this property unique
Quiet and uncrowded, i could spend hours on the porches looking over the bay.
