About this property

Great Cottage & Location

You can't beat this location. It is lakefront at its best. It is also near anything your hearts desire. If you like to fish, swim, shop, hike, go to festivals, wineries or just hang, this is the perfect spot. This wonderful cottage is located on the southwest side of beautiful South Lake Leelanau. This is an all-sports lake with great fishing, water sports, and sightseeing. You can explore more than 20 miles of shoreline, visit North Lake Leelanau, or dock your boat in the quaint town of Leland and shop in 'Fishtown'.

The cottage is located on a small access road which is about three miles north of the town of Cedar. It is a two-story house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are all upstairs, and one full bath upstairs, and one full bath downstairs. The lake area in front of the cottage is beautiful, with about a two-mile expanse across the lake.

The cottage is directly on the lake (there is no road between the cottage and the lake) and the water is about 80 feet from the cottage. Large trees at the water's edge provide cool shade on summer days. The lake bottom is sandy, with a very gradual drop off (about three-feet deep at 100 feet from shore). The shoreline is grass up to water's edge.
Enjoy wonderful sun and moon-rises from your wrap-around porch. Truly a functional and lovely get-away. Hard-pan sandy lake bottom, great for youngsters to swim and play. No thru-traffic on this private shared road. Open floor plan on main level with durable flooring, spacious entry/laundry room. Charming cottage style decor. Boating on this 20-mile lake seems endless. Spend the entire day on the lake topped off with a great dining experience in Cedar, Lake Leelanau, or Leland by-boat. So much more to experience on this, the greatest all-sports inland lake in the area. The charming village of Cedar is less than a 5 minute drive and only 20-minutes to downtown TC.

Quick getaway

I wanted a place where we could see the night sky without city lights that was next a lake. The cottage is clean and cute. Neighbors were friendly and the town is super cute.

The cabin looks beautiful from the outside and rustic on the inside. It was great having two showers, as there were 6 of us. T I feel like there could have been more paper products left for

Great home base for leelenau adventures

We came for a long fall weekend of wines and restaurants and relaxation. We enjoyed live music at the river club (glen arbor) sunset over the dam (Leland Fishtown, cove restaurant) enjoyed some great wines at soul squeeze and bourbon at the distillery across the street. We hiked some through the sleeping bear dunes and enjoyed a cup of coffee with a view from the covered porch over lake leelenau. There was a decent collection of games and we were particularly grateful to be able to watch the MSU game!

Cute cottage - great location

Cute cottage with direct access to the lake. Perfect size for six adults. Bathrooms could use some updating, but the rest of the cottage is comfortable and cozy. Great location, close to all TC has to offer. Plenty of outdoor space with lake toys and outdoor games. We spent most of our time enjoying these outdoor amenities and the lake! Would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic Lake Cottage & Great Location

Heather's lake cottage is in a great location on the west side of South Lake Leelanau - close enough for a run into to Glen Arbor, a round of golf at Sugar Loaf or Manitou Passage, or a trip to Good Harbor Beach - one of the best Lake Michigan beaches. We spent most of our time at the lake/on the lake boating, including several trips over to the Tiki Bar at Paradise Cove and a day cruise up to Leland for lunch with a stop at The Boat House for wine. This cottage is set up nicely to enjoy the outdoors, with a roomy porch, large lawn (lawn games supplied), and nice dock + swim raft set up for lounging by the lake. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need to stay at the lake and skip the restaurants for a week.

Beautiful house right on the lake

My husband and I met our friends and their 4 year old daughter for a 4 day weekend to fish and visit. The house was perfect for the 5 of us. The location on the water with that view was amazing. The tree swing was a perfect touch for the house. We are already planning on coming back next September!

Almost perfect

Had a wonderful stay. Location & property was exactly as listed. Very clean, easy to find, quiet neighborhood & well located in the Leelanau peninsula. Enjoyed bonfires & sitting on the dock to enjoy the scenery. An unforeseen incident occurred but was handled quickly & professionally. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Beautiful sunrises every morning!

The property is beautiful. Loved the fire pit and the morning sunrises. House was clean and kitchen was well equipped. You might want to bring bottled water for drinking as we noticed a funny odor to the water. Easy drive to Suttons Bay, Leland and Traverse City. A lot of local wineries to enjoy.

Relaxing waterfront

Beautiful yard with stunning views. We loved the outdoor grill and firepit. The house had everything we needed and was spacious and comfortable for our family of six with four young-adult children. The place was a little bit rustic and has no wifi, but that was just perfect for time away to get 'unplugged'. Bring your own drinking water, though, because the water is a little sulfur-smelling.

Sandy Water Treat

We have been going up to this area for nearly 10 years and have been in a search for a house with lake access, that is sandy. Well, we finally found it! You will enjoy nearly 20 yards of lake with a sandy bottom. There is a great yard to hang out and play games and the house was fantastic, and the dishwasher & washer/dryer were great bonuses! Would highly recommend and we will be back.

Perfect girls weekend!

A group of 8 of us ditched the city life for a long weekend to relax at the Wares lake house and it couldn't have been more perfect! Definitely recommend bringing your own firewood and bottled water. But the house was so clean and well decorated. Very spacious, open environment in the kitchen/living room. The sunrise views were amazing, and the wrap around porch was perfect! Close distance to anything you would want to do in the Traverse City/Suttons Bay area. We will definitely be back!

Great place

This place is in a great location. The owners were very nice and answered all questions right away. The place was immaculate. There were plenty of kitchen utensils and supplies. All the bedrooms are upstairs, something to think about. The towels were nice & bathrooms were clean. The outside area was great for relaxing. Porch was big with plenty of seating. We liked that the lot was flat to the water and the lake was nice and sandy. Lots of wildlife. We would return!!

Unpleasant Stay

Our family was really looking forward to a week of peace and tranquility. We’re very familiar with lakeside living and at first glance this property seemed to offer this. We checked in on Saturday and had a pleasant weekend. Then Monday 0800 happened, where for the next 5 days we heard nothing but construction site noises. We understand custom home construction is out of the homeowners control, but this should have been conveyed. We chose this location because we were looking forward to a week of solitude and sadly that didn’t happen. We reached out to the homeowner on numerous occasions, but never received any return communications. The cottage under normal conditions probably would have met our needs, but the ongoing noise was quite irritating to say the least. We could have easily endured the typical cottage issues such as cloudy tap water, lack of water pressure, and overall a property in dire need of some TLC. As frequent users of VRBO, we were surprised at the homeowners lack of dialog and the misrepresentation of what was currently happening at their property. Norm & Sally G. Colorado

About the host

My husband grew up in this area and I have been here more than 20 years. We just purchased this cottage spring 2015. We look forward to sharing it with our guests. We have two children (14 & 16 yrs old). We love to water ski, tube, and swim in the water. This is a perfect spot. We bought this property because we LOVE the location.

Why they chose this property

We love that this cottage is an open floor plan with a huge stone fireplace, 2 full bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. There is lots of charm and character. We also love the outdoor spaces. The two outdoor balconies and the wrap around porch with the lake view are hard to beat. We also put in a fire pit for s'mores. Very important;-)

What makes this property unique

The best feature is location, the flat lot, and the waterfront. We like that it is 20 mins from Traverse City, and 4 minutes to the village of Cedar. It is also minutes from Lake Michigan, Suttons Bay, Leland, and Glen Arbor. There are several wineries within a 20 mile radius.
