HummerBird Celebration
Sep14-17, 2023
Welcome to the 35th Annual Rockport-Fulton HummerBird Celebration!
PIRATE COVE COTTAGE
Outside paint being scraped for caulking & painting. Vacation cabin. No claim it’s a modern condo.
Simple but clean 50s style weekend cabin. Cottage is small & compact with excellent location & great setup for inexpensive extended family, person, or couple wanting privacy. Although UNDERGOING some repairs, comfortable, nice & pet friendly. Driveway will accommodate a boat.
Full facilities include WiFi for an affordable short-term getaway. The setup is for a family or extended family, or close knit group. A one time cleaning fee is added to each booking.

The main living space is arranged in an open Hotel-suite layout with one full bed in the main living room, a twin size bunk bed in the back room & 2 additional twin fold up beds can be set up in the back or main room as needed. There is a twin bed in the front sun room & a Graco Pack N Play baby bed that can be set up on request. The front sun room is excellent for baby naps & for mom if necessary. Bring own baby sheets & blankets at this time. Great value & convenience.

622 South Live Oak Street is an open-plan cottage with one bathroom in the charming "Heritage District" neighborhood just minutes walking distance from quaint old downtown Rockport with art galleries & places to eat, the city beach, the Navigation Marina district & a nearby city fishing pier that is lit at night. Fishing pier is right on market street & a straight 2 minutes brisk walk to the waterfront.

The cottage front entrance opens onto the small front sun room with comfortable seating on one side & bed on other that is separated from the rest of the house by a glass paneled door for some privacy.

The front patio is presently under renovation, but there is a great backyard patio with a stainless steel gas barbecue & a 2nd wood burning barbecue adjacent to the large backyard wooden deck which has low wrought iron table, & 3 comfortable lawn chairs to relax outside..

We love to sit outside & see the green tailed fire flies that are surprisingly ugly up close but create a magical moving lights display when in season with a lime green luminescence under the clear stary nights. Rockport offers a peace with a real relaxing silence at night & free of background noise during the day.

SEE PHOTOS FOR DETAILS & FEEL FREE TO ASK US QUESTIONS.

In the main suite is the kitchenette, dining nook, entertainment center & love seat. Table has just been strengthened with stainless steel bolts which is the pirate way to do things! There is plenty of seating & extra chairs arranged tastefully around the cottage. The Kitchenette includes a modern stainless steel refrigerator & overhead stainless steel microwave over a full size flat-top electric stove with oven in a modernized simple but functional kitchenette

The main room opens up through two square arches to the high ceiling backroom with bunks & the laundry area on the left side.

The high ceiling bathroom is off the main room & consists of a curved glass shower, modern one piece toilet, & a pedestal basin. The shower head combination with various flow options includes a hand shower. Left is hot & right is cold. We provide soap, shampoo & conditioner as well as toilet paper & paper towels & soap.

There is basic TV with local antenna channels, WiFi Internet, Netflix & various other streaming services - such as PBS Kids, movie channels & a variety of News Services. The entertainment center has a DVD & small DVD library with an excellent selection of some classical & iconic modern movies.
Check out the local chamber of commerce on year round Rockport & area events & activities.

The stand alone cabinet doubles as our supplies storage center & has 2 large lower draws available for our quests' clothes & belongings & storage for electric blankets.

We have a pet friendly fenced back yard.

Updated traditional "batch" type ( New Zealand Kiwi jargon) beach cottage. All electric with window AC & 1 heat window unit & smaller unit in front room with remote. Stackable LG washing machine & drier combination in laundry area. Laundry soap is provided & the washer/dryer combo is easy to use. All done by us as a work of love in the tradition of the Heritage District batches which are fast disappearing. Its quaint but cute, its old but clean & rebuilt pirate tough & strong. Some cracks here & there still remain but ongoing improvements make the cabin better & better each year. Its proven Hurricane Harvey tough. We love providing this rustic inexpensive getaway experience for our guests.

There is just a 2 minute walk to the City fishing pier that is lit at night & 3-5 minute drive to the free dog beach before the entrance to the City beach. Its best to buy a yearly pass car sticker to the city beach. The city beach has an excellent salt water pond for toddlers on the far left.

There are nice nearby restaurants within walking distance & with a short drive along the waterfront there is an HEB, Walmart, Walgreens, several fast food franchises & an ACE hardware. Just turn right on Market from Live Oak, left at downtown & drive through town & along the coast. Mac's barbeque is on the corner with Market. The Country Man's Country Club is open for business again which we highly recommend. (Your restaurant suggestions & updates are very welcome). After you make your reservation, we text instructions & house rules with further information about Pirate Cove Cottage & what we provide.

Bring your boat for fishing, or canoe, or bikes for relaxing rides or walks along the waterfront on Water Street just 2 blocks away. Rent a kayak or golf cart. Long graveled driveway that easily accommodates a boat & truck or several vehicles.

CANCELLATION POLICY ADDENDUM: Post Hurricane Harvey policy - all cancellations according to our site cancellation policy will be charged an additional $60 for bank fees & processing fees.

KEYWORDS: Cabin, Cottage, Bungalow, Batch, Private property, plenty of parking, privacy, fishing, pet friendly, suitable for a boat.

Support Rockport recovery after Hurricane Harvey and come see the amazing recovery for youself. Enjoy the relaxing Gulf Coast culture, hospitality & the peace of the city of Rockport.

Great little get away

This place was a great little get away, don’t let the outside photos deter you from booking the place, the cottage is very spacious and the kitchen has everything you need to cook for your family, it’s in a quiet neighborhood and close to the beach and shops, Chris was also very helpful, we really enjoyed our stay and we’re looking forward to going back

In need of repair

One of the reasons we chose this location is the fenced back yard, the fence is falling down and unkept. The home is in need of repairs inside and out. We made the best out of the situation we found ourselves in . But feel the monies paid wasn’t worth the accommodations provided. The little house has potential but needs investment to make a nice Vacation rental.

The place was good for what we used it for, but could use improvements.

This place advertised a fenced yard for a pet, and I contemplated bringing my dog, glad I didn’t. The fence was not 100% in tact, and wouldn’t have been helpful or secure. Also, the mosquitoes were really bad, which I expect on the coast, but I feel like if the grass had been better maintained, (it was really tall in many areas) and there wasn’t standing water in some sort of bird bath in the front yard, the mosquitoes would have been less of a problem. Also, something should be done about the shower head configuration, there’s not a good way to start the shower without getting sprayed, as well as spraying the floor outside the shower. The place was clean and tidy on the inside, and air conditioning cooled it down well. Since I was only down there to fish, and only needed AC, Hot shower, and a couple beds, it worked out. For pets it would need some fence work, and it’s not a place I’d take my wife and children. Good central location for fuel stations, restaurants, boat ramp and bait stands.

Owner was very nice; house needs work

First off, the owner was very helpful, friendly, and accessible. He made everything easy and was accommodating. The house unfortunately needs a lot of work. For one, we didn't feel comfortable, a bunch of females in a home with little to no coverage over the windows. We had create some "makeshift curtains" that wouldn't damage the cheap rods but would help us feel safe and not like people could see us from the outside in the bathroom or any other room in the house! The house has very little privacy, basically one large space and then the front room has a door to separate the one bed. It does sleep 7, only if you're willing to put 2 people in the biggest bed (probably a full size) and the two pullouts had little to no space to "pull out". Thankfully there was only 5 of us and the 5th girl had to sleep between the back door (blocking it) and right by the washer/dryer. The kitchen table was so cheap and flimsy one of the legs fell off so we never got to use it. The location of the home was good but needs some major upgrades. The price was fair, but I should have paid a little more to stay somewhere that had some of the basic things I mentioned. With just a little money invested you could increase the value and end up with happier customers.

DISAPPOINTED

My husband and I were very disappointed. The online pictures of the property are very deceptive. We drove by the house several times before we realized that this was actually the address of the property we rented. My husband wanted to leave immediately but due to the "no refund" policy, we entered the house to see what the interior was clean. The surface was clean. The exterior: entrance - railing was loose; porch had boards nailed down over apparent holes; the cement walkway was not there; paint was peeling off the house; the back yard was grown up with it being mowed in order to get to the back door; one window was completely missing with plastic over the window and a pull blind on the outside of the house; the back deck in the pictures shows a nice deck with what appears to be a jacuzzi which is reality a bathtub with jets - it was not in working order; there were holes in the boards by the back door entrance; new windows were inside the house to be installed. I understand that Harvey caused major damage. I also understand that the property has been rented mutliple times since then.. The "post Harvey" pictures needs to be listed on the site so people will know what they are renting - not what the property was prior to ...

Inadaquate place

The place was in need a serious repair. Only Windows units to cool house down, which it never did. I had to go buy fans to no be absoloutly miserable. No handrails on porch, serious trip hazzards everywhere. And an extra charge to sleep 7 People when the ad clearly says sleeps 7.... it come out to be over 200 pero night. For a place of that quality was way overpriced and i am embarassed to say i stayed there. Will never return to this location.

Affordable and family-friendly vacation rental

This property was perfect for our needs, overall. It was clean and comfortable, and it was nice that we could have our dogs with us. I wasn't able to let my dogs in the backyard due to it not being fully enclosed, and the fact that it had rained and the yard was swampy, but that wasn't a major setback. There was also a problem with the internet connecting on our second day, but that wasn't a big deal, either. It was a nice stay, and I would recommend to others. Thanks!

Great Location but not enough A/C for summer time

window A/C units had a difficult time keeping the middle most largest part cool (where the biggest bed is). Units were in the smaller areas. Owner would do well to add one more a/c unit in the larger middle area. Kitchen was sparsely furnished. ( there were no tall drink cups - only coffee cups and 1 small juice glass), no mixing bowls for making dinners, no cutting board, poor cutting knives, large pot for frying had no handle and no pot holders to get it off the burner). No wash cloths provided; mirror in bathroom was on the floor so had to squat to use. 2 window glasses were broken in living area. Owner covered and tacked with plastic, however we had to spray a yellow jacket nest just on the other side. They were traveling inside the house. Shower spray nozzle sprays outside the door and takes a long time to get warm water. Shower door was wampy and not connected to the bottom. Hot tub has been out of service since the last time we rented several years ago. Owner seems to do the least minimal amount of work to keep the place rented. Externally, the property is in poor condition. The only reason we came back was because of the location to town. If you bring enough kitchen supplies and can overlook the rest of the condition of the house, it's a great place to stay though and economical. But you get what you pay for.

Overall good experience

Check in was easy, place was clean, beds were comfy and the a/c units kept us cool. Due to all the rain the Mosquitoes were terrible if you went outside even with repellent, just how it is sometimes. Shower leaks onto the floor and pools up under the wall on the left side under the towel rack.

Quaint, good location!

The house was charming and cute - there are ongoing renovations, but that didn’t bug us! The back yard was great for the kiddos and doggy! Nice, open floor plan and light house. The ONLY complaint I have was the mosquitoes 😂😂😂 definitely not anyone can do about that. After all the rain I swear they NESTED in the driveway and it was a gun show anytime we loaded in the car!

A walkers dream location

The house was in a perfect location for us as we walk a lot. We were within walking distance of shops, museums, beach, etc. The house was clean and comfortable but the back yard could have been cleaned up a bit as we had our dog along but we managed o.k. The picture of the front of the house needs to be updated as it was not as pristine.as.it appeared. We did experience trouble using the TV/Blue Ray. Written instructions would have been nice, We did enjoy our time at the house.

About the host

Hosted by Christopher Anderson

Host profile image
We believe you will like Rockport as much as we do. Its an exceptional little Texas Coast town. We are Christopher and Mercedes Anderson with two children Christopher 18 years of age at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi on the Island from the Fall 2015, and Nicole 16 years of age (the little girl in the photo when we bought the place in 2003) who is in High School and loves and excels at dance. Our vacation rental has been a family project with everybody participating in the restoration of this Rockport vacation cottage. We continue to make updates and improvements each visit. The photos reflect updates through February 2016 with the addition of deck furniture on the backyard deck.

Why they chose this property

When our children were little we camped on weekends all around South Texas. After a very wet season and super sized mosquitos to boot, we dropped into Rockport which we fell in love with and got interested in buying a small cabin in this picturesque little Texas Gulf Coast town. We finally tracked down our property in 2003 and began renovating and restoring it to help preserve the traditional historical charm of the Heritage district of Rockport. The City plans to begin work on a paved walking trail that will pass in front of our cottage. There is a bird reserve on both sides of the street just past Walmart north on old 35 through old downtown. (A 10 minute car trip is required)

What makes this property unique

Rockport is a particularly beautiful and picturesque spot on the water with clean air and starry Texas nights. Silence is golden brings a peace at times that is healing to the spirit. There are small museums and art galleries in old downtown Rockport. The town is relaxing peaceful and there are many local things to keep you occupied and entertained. To the North is the sister city Fulton where there are additional restaurants and on the far side of the Rockport-Fulton community there is a small airport. Rockport is about 30 minutes north of Corpus Christi. One will want to come again and again to sample the peace and calm. Don't fail to take the free ferry across to Port Aransas. There are lots of attractions and local small towns. It is a great and practical base to explore the greater area. The Shrimpree Festival is 2nd weekend in June in Aransas Pass. 4th July Public Fireworks on the beach. SEA FAIR is Thursday - Sunday second week in October at the Festival Grounds at Rockport Harbor.
