About this property

Charming stone cottage on its own land in Southern Burgundy

This spacious 18th Century stone French cottage, called "Le Champ du Four" is a renovated former farmhouse in the heart of France.
The cottage is situated in tranquil farmland between the historic village of Cluny, whose 11thC Abbey was the largest in the world, and medieval Charolles, the town which gave its name to the famous Charolais cattle.
It is ideal for independent travellers, whether family, a couple or a group of friends, seeking to get away from city life or to explore the region's wine, history and natural beauty.

Le Champ du Four is fully self-contained, with 3 bedrooms (including 2 cots), plus a fold-out settee, sleeping up to 8 people and 3 bathrooms including 2 showers
An open modern kitchen, large dining and family area plus a separate lounge room.
It has a courtyard which provides off-street parking and a large lawn area allowing al-fresco dining, barbecues, a place to relax under the shady trees and a safe play area for children.

All guests receive, upon booking, a comprehensive Guest Booklet with details on the cottage and things to find, do and see in the region.

We also have holiday rental cottages available in Dordogne (La Galerie in Belves) & in Provence (Les Lucarnes in Pernes-les-Fontaines)

IMPRESSIVE PROPERTY
The house is a very impressive conversion of a barn and farmhouse. The height of the central area does mean that there is an inevitable lack of natural light at either end however. The kitchen, with lights on, is excellent and very well equipped but the TV area is rather gloomy, at least in September. The plan of the house provided by Bruce clearly shows all the little flights of stairs but they do make getting around a bit complicated. For example, anyone using the third bedroom would have to come down a flight of stairs on a nocturnal visit to the bathroom! Baby equipment is provided but parents of toddlers should be aware that potentially dangerous stairs and steps inside and out are unguarded. Despite these reservations we very much enjoyed our stay. The glorious scenery is a plus-point as is the wealth of information supplied by Bruce both before and during the visit. If only more gite-owners did the same!

Bucolic Solitude
Situated in the photo-worthy undulating hills of southern Burgundy, Le Champ du Four is an ideal getaway offering solitude and pastoral beauty. The photos accurately depict this sprawling, comfortable farmhouse. The spacious, well-stocked kitchen boasts a large refrigerator/freezer, a dishwasher and all the usual appliances. Wifi is reliable and sufficient for streaming. We enjoyed nine wonderful days at Le Champ du Four and would happily stay again.

A beautiful cottage in a very interesting and historical part of Burgundy. The cottage is spotlessly clean and very well appointed with every attention to occupants’ needs. We hope that we can return there one day.

The best of rural France
Just as expected the layout and amenities of Champ du four were impeccably clean and spacious. Our group of four, two couples, were easily accommodated with excellent privacy. We had a wonderful time visiting the löcal villages, with a focus on the regional food and wine. Our favourite activity was to buy up big at the food market and return to our home for wine oclock on the lawn followed by hearty tea inside. We would strongly recommend staying there for any one touring the region by car. It was great.

We are an Australian couple with a love of French culture, food, wine and history. 16 years ago, we were able to purchase our own piece of France with this cottage in Burgundy.

More recently the opportunity arose to purchase two additional cottages we've always enjoyed staying at, in Dordogne and Provence, so we can now offer holiday accommodation is three of France's most delightful regions.
