For nature lovers

My husband and I enjoyed this beautiful location on the Pacific Ocean for almost a week. Beach is awesome: long and sandy stripe of coast where you can meet turtles, pelicans, flamingos, iguanas and wild horses. Scorpions too! :P Waves are loud but not too big and, thanks to the sandy bottom, very safe for beginner surfers. I think you have the option to rent boars on site. Get your grocery before to get there as the access to the beach is not easy and quick. The little restaurant on site offers very fresh and inexpensive food. We almost never cooked to be honest. :) The casitas are quite confortable considering the standards of Nicaragua. You won't spend much time indoor anyway! Leon and the Volcano worth a visit!

Un endroit de rêve !

Wow!

What we love: Nearly exclusive use of a 12km , gently sloping beach perfect for runs, walks & boogie boarding Casita equipped with good beds, efficient air conditioners, modern washer, fridge, gas stove /oven & microwave; Unlike other properties in Nicaragua, there’s no surcharge for electricity or water; You feel safe given you’re at the end of 18km dirt road & have a night watch; The isolation. If you enjoy a location free of traffic, crowds, TV, etc & steps from the crash of waves, this is the property for you; & Constant w/b breeze, at times gusty, cools but kicks up sand. What you need to know: You’re 18kms down a dirt road with no immediate access to groceries. If you intend to cook for yourself, ask your driver to stop at a supermarket prior to turning off the hwy. Plan for everything from oils to condiments to meats, fruit, veggies, etc; Owner uses several vacation rental sites to advertise property. In our case we booked & paid for Red Casita 36 with pool using VRBO in July, 2015, however another guest was instructed to book same property using different site in October & since they arrived earlier they took occupancy; Given unreliability of shuttle service & remoteness of propert it's recommended you rent a 4X4 if you wish to travel to Leon or beyond; There’s not always a vehicle at property so should there be a need for urgent transport (eg medical issue) you may have to wait; Guests need to bring dish/bath/beach towels & face clothes; Hospitality staff offer no information unless prompted (eg received key to casita 2 days afterquestion @ arrival & shower dripped at a rate of 4ltr/hr throughout stay despite advising staff immediately); Rates for equipment rentals & shuttles may vary. Told that 20-min boat ride to Puerto Sandino would cost a few dollars (ie enough to cover gas) & we paid US$50 + 120 Cordoba for a trike cab to town; You’re on a sandy beach so expect biting ants outside & at times inside your casita; This is an active construction site, so serenity of locale is interrupted by sound of band saw & sanders throughout day; Kitchen/glassware in limited supply. Staff provided some missing essentials upon request & shared items with other guests While there is a convenience store (ie pulperia) stocking some essentials 12kms away, it will cost you US$20 to get there; Pack of 10+ dogs roam property looking for handouts & often bark at night;  Guests' trash deposited in area below restaurant window

In 2004, two adventure-loving brothers set out to find the perfect surf break on a beautiful beach, with the goal of building a cozy surf shack and escaping the cold North American winters. After an extensive search, we discovered this hidden gem in Nicaragua and named it Playa Tesoro. Over the next 14 years, we developed one of the country's best private, fresh water systems and an efficient electrical setup, with full ownership of all the equipment. With over 30 years of experience as business partners in construction back in Canada, we’re proud to invite you to explore this stunning beachfront property in the warm, welcoming country of Nicaragua.

Why they chose this property

Nicaragua is a beautiful country with warm, welcoming people. It’s a peaceful and secure place that offers stunning natural beauty. León, the university hub of the country, is home to 11 universities, numerous language schools, a vibrant music scene, and a thriving arts community. As the second oldest city in the Americas, after Panama City, León boasts incredible architecture. The people here are kind, peaceful, and full of hospitality. In short, León is a safe, intellectual, artistic, and friendly community that offers a unique and enriching experience. The surrounding León region is also filled with a wide range of fascinating places to explore on day trips.

What makes this property unique

This property is truly one-of-a-kind, even in Nicaragua, as it sits between the Pacific Ocean and a pristine 24-mile freshwater river at the back. Playa Tesoro offers the perfect swim beach, with soft sand, gentle waves, and warm water. The river is untouched by human activity—no litter, no bottles—just fish and birds in a tranquil, natural environment. The beach stretches for 7 miles, and we often ride dirt bikes from one end to the other at sunset, encountering only turtles along the way. Despite this serene setting, the second largest city in Nicaragua is just 45 minutes away.

Playa Tesoro is located only 45 minutes from León, the country’s second largest city. León is a 500-year-old architectural treasure, known for its stunning collection of 400-year-old mud-and-straw homes, 14 churches, and 11 universities. The city is also home to a vibrant arts scene. Our beach and accommodations are considered the best in the León area.
