This is our 3rd year visiting the area and stayed in this cozy cabin. It’s a peaceful retreat for our family and has everything we need for a comfy stay! My family always enjoys it and the location is perfect for us. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy! We’ll be back next year!
Great house and perfect location for hiking and mountain biking
This house was spectacular. Loved the front porch with the gate and the location was amazing. Will definitely be returning if it's ever available again!
Looking for a quiet retreat with easy access to DuPont State Forest, Hendersonville, and Brevard then this place is for you! Everything was comfortable, clean, and most of all peaceful and relaxing. We highly recommend!
This was our second stay at Trailside Escape with our two young children. Beautiful location, so close to Dupont, Hendersonville and Brevard. The home is clean, the owners were responsive. Can't wait to come back next year!
We have stayed here in this mountain cabin before and will again. This weekend our trip coincided with Hurricane Helene - the owners contacted us several days before and offered us a full refund given the uncertainty of the storm track. This was incredibly thoughtful and kept us out of terrible situation and with no monetary loss. This kind of goodness will be reciprocated. Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful property and so impressed at how stocked the home was. Super clean and impressive property. It was such a relaxing and beautiful stay for our family. We will always be staying here for our cabin stays!
The owners were super sweet, responsive and helpful and friendly! Thank you again for opening your cabin home to us! 💜💜💜
I've been looking for a cabin that was truly a getaway and finally found it. Mornings sipping coffee, enjoying nothing but the outdoors. A private trail to enjoy with my kids. Fantastic.
This was our second time staying at this home. Frances is a great communicator and very kind and helpful. The house is near many different towns (Hendersonville, Brevard and Asheville) and hiking trails are so close! We also enjoy daily walks with dogs and kids to see the horses at the bottom of the hill.
This is our 2nd time staying at this home. It is big enough for our family of 6. We love the childproof gate on the front porch. Beds are SO comfortable...I even brought my own pillow from home and ditched it for theirs 😆 So close to may things!!
Great property for a young family- close to waterfalls + short hikes! Pack n play fit into downstairs bath (we had a travel black out curtain to add to small window)….. sweet short trail right by house to play between naps. Less than 10 min to hooker + triple falls and kids mountain bike trail at DuPont. The front porch is lovely. We’ll be back!
We loved the proximity of this cabin to Brevard and DuPont hiking trails. Teenagers were a bit wary of not having a TV (we knew this in advance) but it turned out perfectly as we played cards, games, and music instead. The cabin was equipped nicely and it was fun using the wood burning stove. We had one minor inconvenience. Frances was quick to respond and it all worked out. We would definitely consider staying here again. There are many more waterfalls we didn’t get to see!
We really enjoyed staying at this property. We did not receive the key code prior to arriving, so I had to call the host to get the code when we arrived, but that may have been vrbo’s fault and not the host’s. She called me back in 10 minutes and we were able to get in. The cleaning fee is high as guests have to do a list of things before leaving such as cleaning and putting away dishes, taking trash out, etc., which is frustrating to have to clean your accommodation while on vacation when you’re trying to get home on the last morning and also pay a cleaning fee that should more than cover cleaning a well-kept property. Regardless, this is a cute house and the surrounding woods are beautiful when the leaves change.
My husband and I stayed in this treasure of a cabin with our 3 children, ages 8,6 and 6. The cabin is located on a large tract of land with lots of space for kids to run and play AND has it's own private hiking trail that leads to a creek. You also can't be more convenient to Dupont for more hiking. We also were granted permission to take our family dog and it was nice to have her with us on our adventures. The home was so clean and well taken care of. Kitchen is equipped with all the basic cooking items and worked great for our needs. Bedding was all super comfortable. The cabin does not have a TV and this was a bonus for us. The Wi-Fi worked well during our stay. The front porch swing, fire pit and the wood stove were all wonderful touches to make our 3 night stay just perfect. Frances was quick to respond to us when needed but we didn't have have to reach out because everything was just as described and very well explained ahead of time. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again.
Great picturesque mountain cabin. It has great porches on the front and back. Quiet and peaceful at night. The host was super. Very quick to respond and really helpful when asking about local attractions.
We will be back!
This place was amazing! Beautiful and peaceful place for a much needed family retreat. Lots of things to do in the area and no shortage of fresh air and hiking. The place was clean and cozy. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
We are family of 5 including 3 kids. The older kids enjoyed the hike to the creek, the trail goes from the backyard. The cabin was clean and nicely decorated some of them we had to move away from our 1yr who likes to reorganize. The closest grocery store Ingles in Brevard was less than 20min away which is by the way a pretty large store with wide selection. DuPont access are within 10min. The owner recommended the horseback riding tour at Rusty Spur Trail Ride and it was an awesome experience.
No tv in the cabin but wifi worked pretty good.
Overall great place to stay. Thank you!
Great place within biking distance to DuPont trails. We were surprised to find a trail right in the front yard that is a fun downhill with switchbacks taking you down to a creek.
The house was clean and had all of the things we were looking for. Well equipped kitchen, dining areas. Nice fire pit area that was relaxing. Great views!
The cabin is very clean and well kept. The front porch was great for sipping coffee in the morning. The location is remote, so you don't have to worry about noise or neighbors (unless being that remote worries you...). Overall a great place close to mountain biking and a short trip from town.
We loved this home nestled in the mountains a short distance from DuPont State Forest. Frances was quick to respond to any questions we had. Very quiet and peaceful setting for our family reunion.

About the host
Hosted by Frances Wechsler
The Wechsler Family is from Decatur, GA. Along with our four children we enjoy cycling and horseback riding. We are quite active in the cycling community and have enjoyed hosting many rides in Dupont and along the Blueridge Parkway with friends and family. Several of our friends are professional cyclists who enjoy staying at Trail-Side for training. We are very relaxed and want our guests to enjoy the cabin as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
In 2013 we went to Brevard to visit our daughter at Camp Eagle's Nest and rented a cabin adjacent to Dupont State Park. We had never visited the area and fell in love with it at once. We were amazed at the beauty of the forest and waterfalls with such easy access to activities we are passionate about.... horses and bikes! . While out biking we came upon Trailside Escape and couldn't resist purchasing it because of its quaint style and incredible location. Tom is an avid biker and I have 2 horses. The location of the house eliminates the travel time of hauling horses and bikes to and from Dupont. We have spent 2 years renovating and preparing the property to share with others. Now we hope that you can enjoy it as much as we do.
