Had an amazing stay at Tottering. This was our second year planning a family get together here in the lake.
The kitchen was great for cooking family meals to enjoy on the beautiful back porch. The hosts are so responsive and accommodating.
Can’t wait to stay here again.
Had an amazing stay. Property exactly like listing. Lots of space inside and fully equipped kitchen.
Lovely back porch perfect for meals and relaxing.
Pt. Chautauqua neighborhood very quiet and quaint.
Host great with communication.
Would definitely go back.
My family has been coming to Chautauqua Lake for all of my life; visiting grandparents and parents. Tottering provided a place for the younger generation to stay and visit together and hop across the Lake to visit with Grandparents. Property is well appointed (a/c cooled the first floor; ceiling fans the second; laundry was helpful). Kitchen allowed us to cook dinner for everyone, and the back deck hosted a game night. Neighborhood is quiet and provided great fireworks viewing. The hosts were helpful and easy to communicate with. Great property!
Our five-day stay at Tottering at Point Chautauqua was amazing to say the least. Now seventy, I was two months old when I first went to the Point. I was familiar with the house years ago when it looked as though it would fall down any day; hence the name. The Osborns did a fantastic job of rehabilitation of the structure and their work should be presented in the journal of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Anyone else would have razed the structure and started anew. The owner also connected me with two members of the local historical society and I spent several hours discussing my knowledge of the Point with them.
The cottage was spotless and filled with everything (and more) that could be needed to make for a perfect stay.
I cannot recommend the property enough. My wife and I will certainly return.
Point Chautauqua was the perfect place for our family of 4 adults and an infant just before Labor Day. The walks on Olmsted's roads or just down the path to the playground and swimming pier are delightful. Tottering is very comfortable, spic and span, spacious, and quiet. We could not have dreamed of more.
We had a wonderful time. It was everything described and more. 5 adults and 2 kids with plenty of room. Kitchen was better stocked than my kitchen at home!!!
Already booked it for next year, 2022.
We had a lovely time. The house is simply beautiful. Great location and we enjoyed so many facets of the house like the surround sound music, shady porches and huge bedrooms. We actually looked forward to nighttime sleep. The owner was easy to communicate with and gave so many good suggestions. We visited university of Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Thanks
Our family had a wonderful time at Tottering. Sandy was easy to work with- very accommodating and quick to reply to our questions. The location is great- quiet neighborhood, friendly neighbors, short walk to the water, lovely park and swim area! The house has all you need and more! The hosts have really made every effort to ensure a wonderful stay. My kids loved it so much that they asked if we can have another trip to Tottering next year.
Tottering is a beautiful space and a 3-minute walk to the lake - which has a cute swimming area and a great place to sit and watch the sunset. The porches are not to be missed at Tottering - rain or shine, they kept us covered and we had a lot of fun. But wait, there is more. The gardens are beautiful and don't miss the planting plans that show what is planted, where. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful and the place is close to everything. Sandy recommends Guppies - and so do we!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tottering. Just the perfect respite we needed from our hectic lives in the city. We loved the 5 min walk to the lake and went 1-2 times a day. The playground for the kids at the lake was a perfect place for our littles to burn off steam. Tottering itself had everything we needed for a calm and relaxing vacation. We toured the neighboring towns, went for lots of scenic drives and walks, and were amazed at how close everything was to Tottering. Just a short drive to Bemus Point, The local state park and marina, restaurants and quaint towns all around that area. We had all the comforts of home during our stay, a well appointed kitchen, a nicely updated bath, clawfoot tub for the kids to take a bath, and a great yard to run around in. We hope we can make our visits to Tottering a yearly occurrence! Book your stay now, you won't regret it!
As we were looking for a beach vacation this summer, we were limited by our professional responsibilities ( I am a nurse adn my husband is a physician) to keep a low profile and stay in a quiet location where we would be safe and secluded. Tottering delivered far above our expectations. The home is as beautiful as it is comfortable and welcoming. We love to cook and fully appreciated a kitchen that was both lovely and well-equipped. Every night we enjoyed delicious dinners featuring local corn and tomatoes paired with incredible IPAs from local breweries. We swam in the lake, golfed, kayaked, paddle-boarded, and mountain biked. We can't wait to return!
Tottering was fantastic! We had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay and the weather was unusually warm for Chautauqua so we were able to swim a lot and enjoy the warm evenings! The house has an amazing history and the owners have done a fantastic job restoring and updating the home! It has a wonderful blend of history and modern comforts!
Wonderful well stocked home in quiet lake community!
The house was lovely, and spacious. We were 4 adults and 3 teens and there was plenty of sleeping space for everyone. The house, especially the kitchen is incredibly well stocked and organized. We baked brownies and cookies and found everything we needed. The house was perfectly clean. The lake is lovely and a very short walk from the house. We spent a lot of time on the back deck looking towards the lake. The neighborhood is quiet and people were very friendly. Lots of space for the teens to roam safely. Close drive to Lake Erie. And a not so bad drive to Niagara Falls. We are not golfers, but the golf course is within walking distance. Overall a lovely, lovely stay!

Terrific time at The Tottering
If the Tottering is not available for your vacation, change your vacation dates. It is a gem. Porches on front, side and back provide sun or shade any time of day, the surrounding lawn and gardens are colorful. Short walk to the lakefront.
The cottage is cozy and well stocked with every need: you could even bake a pie if one were so inclined. The kitchen is ample and the island allowed 3 people to prepare food without being in each other's way or access to,sink or refrigerator.
The living areas are cozy and there are little retreats tucked away in master bedroom, sitting area and wingback chairs by the gas burning fireplace. Afghans are plentiful for cool evenings on the deck or anywhere. Books, puzzles, games: something for everyone.
Pt. Chautauqua itself is a beautiful neighborhood on the historic register with homes and cottages whose architecture make an iinteresting walk. The cottage was lovingly restored by the owners whose progress is documented in 3 photo albums, very interesting viewing.
The owner met us upon arrival , was helpful, and was available via text or email during the stay for questions, if necessary.
We would definitely rent again when we need a place that sleeps 8. Two and one half baths were nice. When 8 year old granddaughter made a wish upon the first evening star, it was that she was" staying a whole week! " Alas, she only was there for a long weekend.
Good job, Sandy and family.

Tottering
Tottering is a special place --- beautiful and relaxing with a warm "at-home" environment. My family and I had a great time just enjoying the peace and quiet and unplugging from the daily routine. The house is simply beautiful, comfortable and spacious. We love to cook so we thoroughly enjoy the gourmet kitchen. Our favorite place to dine is the back porch area which is spacious and cozy. The owners are very accommodating and are always interested in the comfort of their guests. In addition, if you have any questions while you are staying there, you can reach the owners at any time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning to return as often as possible.

Step Back in Time to Victiorian Elegance
Tottering is dream. You can feel the history of this charming, genteel house as soon as you see it. The owner has built a 2-story addition to update the house with a modern kitchen, dining area and a spacious master bedroom suite at the top of the winding staircase. The guest rooms are cozy and the whole house clean and well kept. Furnishings are comfortable and unassuming, like a visit to grandma's! Find peace and rest for your spirit in any season at Tottering.... a snowy winter's quiet time by the warmth of the kitchen stove heater... or lemonade on the deck surrounded by flowers.... or a cool walk to the lake in the red, gold and orange of autumn. On one of several stays at Tottering, my husband and I spent a Valentine's weekend enjoying the Lake Chautauqua Wine and Chocolate tour! The countryside around the lake is stunning. Just a short drive away you can find fun and affordable restaurants like Guppy's, Bonar's in Mayville for breakfast, and don't miss The Ellery Cow for a tasty experience of rural New York! The owners are easily reached by phone for any questions or problems. I have recommended staying at Tottering to my friends and they all have been well pleased.

About the host
Hosted by Sandy Osborn
My husband and I purchased this shell of a cottage in 1994...no wiring, plumbing, kitchen or porches. We had always wanted to restore a Victorian House and this tiny cottage called to us. The neighbors called it 'Tottering' because it looked like it would fall over...or totter at any time. We spent several years restoring and bringing this treasured beauty back to her original glory with updated modern conveniences and appliances.
Why they chose this property
Our neighbor was able to locate a picture of what the house looked like in the 1880s and in that way we were able to replicate the porches and keep the original victorian 'feel' while restoring and updating this labor of love. Of course there is all new wiring, plumbing, flooring and appliances to make a comfortable, modern house while retaining the victorian theme inside and out.
What makes this property unique
Tottering was thoroughly insulated during the restoration process which makes for a very quiet atmosphere whether the outside has a beautiful day or a winter storm roaring. Every room has a ceiling fan to provide maximum comfort even on the warmest of days. The kitchen has a window air conditioner that can be used when needed.
Every effort has been made to decorate simply and elegantly...stained glass windows in the kitchen and wet bar area, marble and butcher block kitchen counters...heart pine floors and kitchen cupboards carry the pine 'theme' throughout the house with restored Victorian doors and hardware obtained from a Victorian House the same age as Tottering.
There are porches on three sides of the house...for dining 'al fresco' or just for relaxing at any time of the day. Wicker and lounge chairs and a swing make it an inviting place to just 'be'. The simple, elegant decor at Tottering makes it easy to come in, put up your feet and relax and unwind. Of course there is 'WiFi', a DVD player, TV, Radio with speakers in the sitting room and kitchen and a card table with a puzzle top for puzzle lovers.
