This was a wonderful property. It was secluded but still easy to access. Plenty if sleeping room and well stocked. We stayed for a full week and really enjoyed the well stocked kitchen and bathrooms.
We had our family of 14 here for a family reunion, and it was perfect! Driving by the mine and checking it out was actually a very cool experience for everyone, kids and adults alike! We saw deer, turkeys, several different mushrooms. The house and host experience was excellent. Don't forget your quarters for the pinball machine!
Beautiful cabin. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Saw different wildlife. House was fully equipped. Spent most of time out on spacious deck with comfortable seating for everyone. Thank you for sharing your cabin. Carpenter Family
Great views with peace and quiet. The only downside was all the spiders in the basement and the dust bunnies from the AC units or fans. Had to spray three times to get all the spiders and we spent some family time cleaning filters on the ac units. Other than that. Great time.
This is a GREAT place for large groups with diverse ages - our group ranged from 2 to 82 years old. Very roomy. We had 11 adults and 2 young children, and it never felt cramped. All-wheel-drive is a must if it's snowy or wintry to get out to this beautiful location, as they clearly disclose in the information packet.
The huge island in the kitchen is so handy for snacks and food for large groups. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner and it was so nice to have that extra table room, plus extra empty space in the pantry for more places to stash groceries.
Both the staircases are so very safely constructed and perfect for toddlers to navigate without fear! Wide, carpeted and the log spindles are close together so no fear of little people slipping through. A bathroom on each of the 3 floors was also very handy, each with tubs and showers.
There are 2 "pack n' plays" available for use in the closets as well as a booster seat in the kitchen, very handy. There is a double sized air mattress already blown up in one of the many large closets and lots of extra pillows and blankets everywhere! The little loft "living room" is very cozy and stocked with tons of kid movies and cartoons. It was perfect for the little people to take a break once in awhile and watch a cartoon, but still be accessible to keep an eye on. The downstairs game room living room is stocked with an xbox 360 plus some games and many DVD's to choose from. This was great for the teenagers to have a place to congregate. Everyone in our party had good cell service and so our data worked great too. The cabin does have wifi, but a limited plan-I don't think any of us even hooked up to it.
We sat in the hot tub in the snow and watched the sun go down, it was beautiful!
Very nice place with gorgeous views. Little bumpy getting there but a cool view of the mine. As long as you are licensed and permitted you can ride right out of the cabin. Accommodates a large group easily.
Our family takes an annual "cousin's vacation" each year to the Black Hills. There are usually 14-15 of us in total with adults, teens and children ages 2-17. This cabin was by far our most favorite since starting the tradition a few years ago. It was so fun getting to drive through the Wharf Mine for the kids too (don't miss the lookout on your way in!).
The cabin was roomy enough that each family grouping had their own floor, bathroom and bedrooms which was super convenient with small kids to put to bed in the early evening. We personally stayed in the basement and it was very nice and cool after a long, hot day hiking. The older kids enjoyed the pinball machine and shuffle board. While they were overjoyed to find an xbox with tons of games to choose from, we made them explore and hike the hill we were on and they made lots of good memories. Our range of toddlers enjoyed hanging on the patio deck, having a secret space in the loft and all the space they could run! Adults loved that there was plenty of table space for all to eat and play board games at plus a gorgeous patio view for all to enjoy the sunset/sunrise with coffee and breakfast/evening drinks. And of course, the hot tub was a splendid way to relax in the evening after a long, exhausting day with kids and adventuring.
Our families and children look forward to booking this cabin again in the future when we have our next trip to the Hills!
We stayed here with a total of 14 including grandparents, adult children and children ranging from 6 mo to 16 years. The house was beautiful and had e Rey thing you need for a week stay. Views were wonderful and we had perfect weather. We took day trips into Lead, Deadwood and Spearfish and enjoyed each town.
The cabin was a great place to stay had lots of room for my whole family I would recommend it to everyone we had the best family vacation we will do it again
This cabin will fit all the needs for a large group! Plenty of beds, bathrooms, and eating space. The game room basement was a hit for the teens and younger kids. The hot tub was a hit for the adults after a long day of hiking! The only down side was the internet/cell reception was pretty poor and the road to the cabin is no joke. Rough shape so 4 wheel drive or a sturdy vehicle is a must. Neither of these items would stop us from staying here again.
Overall we had a awesome weekend away with all of our friends! The whole cabin experience overall was great and only had a few minor things that could have been differently. When we arrived the first night it was very cold in the cabin as thermostats were down to fifty degrees and we couldn’t get the fire place to start so it took forever to get warm. Was a little sad as the checkout procedure says to set temp to 60 degrees before you leave and close all windows and shades and there were shades left open through out the cabins as well which was probably an added reason why it was so cold in there. So either the cabin wasn’t checked out properly from the last group before us or something else occurred and just didn’t get closed up properly. The other issue we semi had was there were dead flys all over the place. With it being the middle of February there shouldn’t be a real problem of flys in the house but we found numerous different piles of dead flys in plains view site that weren’t cleaned up. Dead bugs on the high window seals would be understandable but we were finding them on the floor in plain view site. We would still recommend the cabin for anyones stay in a heartbeat as it was a fun experience!
It was a great place to stay!! It was located close to the ski slopes and a few miles from Deadwood. We had 12 in our group and definitely had room for more. We enjoyed mornings by the fire and nights in the hot tub;) Overall a great place to stay. We made many memories there!!
We stayed with our adult children and grandchildren (13 of us total) and enjoyed the peaceful location, especially the deck. The number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms and size of the cabin were perfect for us. The large island was great for sharing family meals when we stayed inside. The washer and dryer are extra large capacity which was very nice. The kitchen had all of the pans, utensils and appliances that we needed.
The cabin was clean, but could have used a thorough dusting, which I am sure is hard to get done with a quick turn-around time.
We loved the private location, but it may not be for everyone. They were working on the mostly large rock road when we were there, but it was kind of a mess. Our son had a brand new vehicle, and one of the rocks on the road caused a flat tire. We live on a gravel road in the country, so we are used to flat tires and mud on our vehicles. Our grandchildren loved driving through the mine and watching the big equipment at work.
We slept better than we have in years and enjoyed every minute of our week at North Ridge Cabin. We would highly recommend this cabin!
Overall the cabin itself was perfect for the size of our family it would have been more convenient had the instructions getting there been a little more clear
The cabin was clean and home like and made us feel right at home! The view from the porch was beautiful especially with the snow we got. The activities that come with the house also kept us busy along with making memories. The hot tub was the perfect way to wind down after the long days out. Highly recommend this cabin for our next trip up!😊
