Are you looking for a cozy vintage era mountain cabin with all the modern conveniences of home? Then this is the place for you! Our cabin, complete with lake privileges, HVAC, and countless other amenities, is situated just a five minute walk to the lake, and 10 minute walk to town. Check us out.
Update 1-16-2024
————————
The cleanliness and safety of our cabin for guests and staff is paramount.
• We no longer require guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but highly recommend it.
• Guests with active COVID infections should not stay in the cabin. Please inform us.
• Absolutely no smoking or vaping ANYWHERE on our property. Pets are not allowed. We have a Ring camera system outside used to safeguard our cabin in our absence, confirm guest party size, and adherence to the ‘No Smoking’ / ‘No Pet’ policies.
• We have generally implemented a 2-day break between guest parties.
- Ask us about this if it is of concern.
• We implemented more stringent cleaning and disinfectant protocols in 2020. They are used before and after each guest visit.
Thank you,
David and Janet

Our family cabin is the perfect mix of charm, convenience, and quirkiness. (Think squeaky hardwood floors, mountain decor, and modern appliances.) You'll enjoy a well-stocked kitchen & pantry, bedrooms ready to use with linens & towels provided, location near lake, upgraded kitchen & bathrooms, and ample space to socialize and yet, find privacy.
Plus, easy entry/exit with just a couple steps into the cabin and plenty of parking on a slightly sloped driveway. A Smart Lock with a code of your choosing allows simple entry. It couldn't get pop any easier for unloading your stuff.
In addition to the modern appliances (dishwasher, fridge, 5 burner stove and oven, we also have a microwave, coffee-maker, coffee-grinder, toaster, crockpot, blender, mixer, waffle iron, and more. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking staples and every utensil imaginable! A farm table in the adjacent dining room comfortably seats 8 - 10.
We really couldn't have a better location. We're a couple miles off of Highway 108. It’s just a 5 minute stroll to the lake. The lake is open to our registered guests between Memorial and Labor Day. The lake charges $8 per person per day independently of our cabin charges. Downtown Twain Harte is a 10-14 minute walk. The Twain Harte Tennis (and Pickle Ball) Courts are right across the street, the 9 hole golf course is a 3-minute drive, Dodge Ridge ski area is 23 miles up Hwy 108, and the Black Oak Casino is about a 15 minute drive. Yosemite Valley is 1.5 to 2 hrs drive depending on traffic.
Snow removal in winter: We strive to provide one snow plow, when needed after excessive snowfall, before guests arrive. After that, guests are responsible for clearing snow. There are snow shovels in the basement.
With only 2 steps up to the front porch and deck, the front door opens into an inviting living room with a stone (gas) fireplace, pine walls, and comfy leather furniture and antiques. In winter there is central heating throughout, a gas fireplace in the living room, and three portable heaters if you just want to heat the room you’re in. Fresh breezes, portable fans and central air conditioning (AC) cool the cabin in summer. WiFi and DVD-players connect to the 40” Samsung Smart wall-mounted TV in the living room to enjoy app-related I programming (no cable) and DVDs, respectively. Or listen to vinyl records of Frank Sinatra (and other golden oldies) on the Victrola turntable. The expansive sunroom runs the rear width of the cabin. The carpeted sunroom also has a lovely oak piano for your enjoyment.
Three bedrooms are on the main floor.
1) Master Queen Bed (QB) Bedroom;
2) Queen Bed (QB) Bedroom;
3) Double Bed (DB) Bedroom;
Upstairs you'll find a loft with 2 twin beds. (Hey kids, there's even a ladder and trap door leading into the loft if you prefer to ascend that way!)
The cabin sleeps up to 8 comfortably in beds. With our approval, there is a $25 charge per person per night for each guest over 8. Extra blankets are in the chest in the sunroom. Extra linens are in the dresser in each bedroom. Iron and board are in the closet of the small double-bedroom. (But really, who needs to iron their clothes in the mountains?!)
Two upgraded bathrooms each with a shower (no bathtubs) will soothe those aching muscles. The main bathroom is situated between the otwo queen bedrooms (towels are available here). The smaller bathroom is attached within the double bedroom.
A large basement, accessed by both an interior stairway and an exterior rear door, has washer, dryer, room to store your supplies, bikes, floaties, beach chairs, wagon, etc. It's a tad creepy down there at first, but we love it and think you will too! Come down to play foosball or ride the two hybrid bikes for your use. During the summer, badminton is set up in the little backyard court, and the hammock awaits you. I can feel you unwinding already!
Perhaps you’d like to have a small campfire behind the cabin? (Yep, we really mean small.) Please do it WITH GREAT CAUTION and PRECAUTIONS to keep the homesite safe under DIRECT ADULT SUPERVISION. (Note: Strict instructions are provided in the Welcome Book for setting a warming fire in the backyard fire pit. A 5 gallon bucket must be filled with water, the faucet turned on with the hose laid out to the pit ready for dowsing the fire. Please restock the fire pit with wood for the next guest.
What else can you do?? In addition to the activities listed above, at our little town’s Eproson Park you can find a Bocce Ball court and a mini skateboard park. Nearby is the awesome miniature golf course that probably hasn't changed since your grandparents came here as kids themselves. There are countless trails and rivers and lakes to explore nearby, and a bunch of historical points of interest as well. Not into that? Then grab a book, sit in an Adirondack chair, and enjoy tall trees, mountain air, and lovely breezes. There's a grill and tables on the front deck; there are chairs and plenty of space to unwind, do yoga, or play corn hole on the back deck and lawn. Did I mention games? Yes, we have plenty, plus puzzles too! Oh, and the piano. Don't forget that. (It's not in great tune, but heck, it is vintage as well.).We’re an outstanding choice to stay in Twain Harte. Really. (Read our reviews and you'll see!)
The cabin generally rents weekly in summer (7-night minimum). There’s a 2-night minimum most other times. The minimum stay can vary over certain holidays (see calendar).
A signed vacation rental contract (supplied by Owner/Manager) and valid Drivers License are required within 3 weeks of booking a reservation. Renter also agrees to provide a separate $300 refundable security deposit, if requested, in addition to purchasing a $59 damage policy. (The security deposit is returned if no additional cleaning or repair of damaged items is necessary ~ and if rules and policies (no smoking/limit to 8 guests) are obeyed); The additional refundable deposit has been implemented to hold accountable the few guests who don’t honor their vrbo contract.
*To be honest, we're pretty picky about who we rent to. We want you to feel completely at home, so we provide everything we can think of that you might want. But we expect you to care for our little cabin with the utmost of care. (Pretend we are there and you are our personal guests... that's how you should leave it.)
There is also a $150 cleaning fee per stay. The $150 cleaning fee covers usual and customary cleaning duties. By this, we mean that the renter will use the cabin with good care and leaves it in good condition requiring only light cleaning by our cleaner. (Extra cleaning due to excessive soiling will incur extra cleaning fees based on actual amounts charged by the cleaners.) We will refundable your security deposit (if no additional cleaning or repair of damaged items is necessary).
Absolutely no smoking, vaping, parties or pets are allowed on our property. There is a minimum $200 fee each for smoking or bringing pets. Please don’t.
Ring Security cameras are on the exterior of the cabin for the safety of guests, confirm guest party size, adherence to pet and smoking policies, monitor against intruders and monitor adverse weather conditions. We live in San Diego and have installed Ring cameras to keep an eye on the cabin. We do not monitor our guests comings and goings.

*Note that the owner’s dog has occasionally stayed in the cabin - important to know in case of a potential allergy to pets. It is a rare occurrence that we have a pet in the cabin.*
We, the owners, want you to enjoy yourselves as our valued guests. You agree to care for the cabin to a high standard when renting it. This is our beloved family get-away cabin, too.
We hope that you’ll want to come back. Have fun! Please alert us if you’re a repeat visitor when requesting a reservation.
Thank you very much.
