Fantastic Christmas!

We had a lovely family Christmas at this beautiful property. The house is so cosy with the wood burning stoves, but with plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen in particular is very well equipped (as is the rest of the house), so it was easier to prepare Christmas dinner than it is at home! We also enjoyed our walks on the beach - the location means there is a choice every day. Finally, thank you also for the decorations and Christmas tree - the perfect finishing touch.

Lovely place but needs updating

Location okay very close to village rd have to beaware of through traffic can be busy at times , Property lovely from outside and garden a little tired inside needs updating and modernizing in places . Beds not very comfortable mattress is just adequate useable for teenagers but not elderly you could feel springs in bed plus there was a musky smell within property which the furniture is of old period stuff so the smell could of come from there .i also noticed a big screw sticking through the door to the lounge entrance need attending to incase someone cuts them selves . I felt bathroom upstairs could of done with a modern walk in shower the bath is on small side and ive seen a bigger go kart in all fairness. Livingroom was a nice relaxing area lounge area was fine but could do with some modern furniture in my eyes , there was no fans if weather got hot as low ceilings makes rooms hotter during summer period also Parking is only enough for 1 viechle which could be a problem with a family holiday party that have more cars . Overall a pleasent stay .

Lovely stay, home from home

We really enjoyed the quirkiness of the house. The beds were comfortable, it felt clean and tidy and everything we needed was available. The hosts were quick to respond when I had questions and we were made to feel welcome. The local pub isn't currently open, but there is a little shop next door. Thank you for letting us stay 😊

Brilliant, we would love to stay again!

It was home away from home and it really made it a holiday. It was our first trip away with our new puppy and we felt comfortable with the security of the garden. The property was well stocked and we enjoyed the nights in in front of the log burner.

Needs a thorough clean throughout . Lots of food bits in fridge freezer, kitchen drawers and dishwasher that we had to clean before use. Garden not good for dogs. Position of cottage not well described , directly outside both entrances from the garden is a very busy road with no pavement, luckily we don't have young children. Having said that it's a gorgeous cottage but as a rental needs lots of updating and a better description in the advertising.

Easter weekend

The house is full of character and has everything you require for a stay, whether a short or long stay. It is a very good base to explore from. We had 3 generations staying and we had enough space to move about without living on top of one another. The welcome file was rammed with information, activities and local history but unfortunately it did not contain the WiFi code but that was easily rectified with a text. We all had a good, relaxing break and would return.

An absolutely charming cottage, in the heart of village

We had such a lovely stay with family in October half term. Grandparents, children and dog all fitting comfortably ! The cottage had everything you'd need and Loddiswell is perfectly placed to explore The South Hams. Very comfy beds, warm rooms and fully stocked kitchen with home from home equipment. Would definitely recommend and we certainly look forward to coming back 🙏

Good sized cottage in village location

The house was big enough for a group, well equipped, but a little hard to get to, with only one parking space. Good location for driving out to several beaches and other attractions.

Lots of space for families

Overall our stay was good. Property amenities could do with updating - ie upstairs shower and curtains ( which don’t fit and are hanging off in the bedrooms). We only used cottage to sleep in so didn’t try the cooker. Loved the big table with window seat and Windsor chairs. Stairs very steep so not suitable for the less able. Garden is not secure so dogs in leads and keep an eye on adventurous children as entrances are straight onto fast roads with no pavement.

Oldies In Full Wind

An ideal location for a small reunion where you can relax in front of a log fire with a glass (or two) of your favourite tipple and catch up on news and gossip - with the bonus of the local pub and well stocked shop within 100 yards. Time flies by.

Lovely

Such a lovely week and a very homely house. A fantastic location to explore this wonderful part of the UK. Robin was easy to communicate with both before and during our stay. He even phoned us to check everything was ok. Robin’s recommendations for beaches to visit were among our favourite and we visited a different beach every day. The garden was fantastic for the children (4x range of 3-7yr olds) and perfect spot for a bbq. The Tesco delivery worked well and there was a spar on hand for little bits and pieces. We missed the fact there was only one parking spot but managed to get the other car parked on the surrounding streets with little issue. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Beautiful property, perfectly located

We have just returned from this gorgeous cottage. It's chic but cosy inside and extremely comfortable. It feels like a real home from home. Loddiswell is perfectly placed for exploring the beautiful South Hams area - Bantham Beach is a real gem and only a few miles away. Would definitely recommend. We were 5 adults and two small children.

Great location for exploring the South Hams

The Old School House is a lovely, homely house in a great location for exploring the area - beautiful beaches of Salcombe, Hope Cove, Bigbury-on-Sea, trips to Dartmoor, and for those with children - Woodlands Leisure Park which our two loved! There is a local shop in the village and a lovely Farm Shop just a mile or so along the main road towards Kingsbridge. The house is well equipped for a family stay with washing machine, dryer, dishwasher etc but also indoor and outdoor games, BBQ, buckets and spades, DVDs. It is spacious, clean, is obviously well loved and cared for and is full of character. I would not hesitate to recommend the house to other young families. The house is located on a main road, however once the garden gates were bolted, we had no cause for concern that our little ones were in any danger. Robin who owns the house was very helpful. He even phoned during our stay to make sure everything was OK (which it was!) The AGA took a little getting used to, but this only added to the fun of the holiday. We would definitely visit again.

Wonderful family holiday

We had a lovely stay at the Old School House in Loddiswell. The cottage is beautifully decorated, very well-equipped and had ample space for our group (six adults and two children). The village itself has a small supermarket, pub, nice (dog-friendly!) walks and lots of amenities a very short drive away - especially a couple of lovely little farm shops and cafes, as well as bigger supermarkets etc in nearby Kingsbridge. It is also perfectly situated to explore the area, such as Salcombe and a number of beautiful beaches. The owner, Robin, was extremely friendly and communication could not have been easier. We hope to return again in the future!

August 2014

Had a fantastic break at the old school house. 4 Adults and 4 children all of which 5 and under stayed in the cottage. Plenty of room for the children to play in the garden and the house. A well equipped kitchen and a lovely AGA to cook on was great. All able to sit around the dinner table for a meal is also a bonus in holiday rentals. The house is in a perfect location for trips all over the local area. We didn't travel more than 45 mins frrom the house which is great with kids in the car. I have never gone back to a holiday rental as there is always something wrong with the house but i have already booked for 2015....

Lovely house, good value, shame about traffic

Beautiful house (lives up to the photos), comfortable sitting room. very cosy kitchen thanks to the Aga and a nice enclosed garden facing the church, only drawback is its location. It's in the middle of the village and the house walls and garden are bordered on both sides by a one-way system. This appears to be a local rat run down to Kingsbridge and the coast. It wasn't particularly busy in October, but there was still enough traffic to bother you if you were looking for a quiet stay in a peaceful country village (the house isn't double-glazed). It wasn't very safe for our dog, and people with kids would need to hold on tight when they go out of either of the gates as you step straight into the road. The cottage itself is delightful inside with an authentic shabby chic feel in the ground floor rooms. Welcoming touches included fresh flowers and a lovely bottle of cava. The Aga took a bit of getting used to, but there were cookbooks with tips and tricks to help, and thankfully it looks after itself (no need to worry about lighting it). The electric oven mentioned in the facilities is just a small portable oven about the size of a microwave with two hot plates on top, not much use for a serious cook (and electricity is charged extra). The bedrooms were a good size, although one of them is accessed through the bunk room (fine for a family). Some of the mattresses were very soft. Loddiswell itself is an ordinary English village, not particularly picturesque, but the locals were friendly. Nice walks down to river and across fields from the village. Pub did standard pub grub. Handy corner shop just up the road, and a lovely garden centre and farm shop / cafe 5 mins drive. Quiet beaches and stunning coastal walks about 30 mins drive. Note, the house is semi-detached, not detached as stated in the Homeaway facilities description. It shares the length of its back wall with the neighbouring house behind it. It still feels very private though, the walls are so thick you don't hear anything from next door, and the garden has high hedges and is not overlooked.

About the host

We bought the Old School House when our youngest daughter was 10. She and her friends enjoyed many happy summers sailing and crabbing. Now our kids come with their friends, and our grandchildren! We love the walks from the house along the river Avon, and easy access to the coast and to Dartmoor.

Why they chose this property

The house feels warm all the year round- and comfortable rain or shine, whether you are a couple or a larger group, The village is friendly, the atmosphere VERY relaxed.

What makes this property unique

Wood burning fires, cosy kitchen, 3 centuries of history: the local schoolmaster lived here. 20 mins to anywhere in the South hams!
