About this property

Spectacular Cottage at Bantam Lake, Sleeps 12

This 7-bedroom cottage overlooks pristine Bantam Lake, with dock and kayaks. Cottage features 2 stories -- 3 bedrooms on bottom floor, 4 bedrooms on upper floor. Fully renovated with large wraparound porch, new kitchen and bathrooms, AC, Internet and smart TV. Please note there are 2 other rental cottages on property. Each has own private lakefront area. Dock and swimming raft are shared. This is a paradise for kids, with kayaks, inflatables and other water sports. Cottage is on same property as two other rental cottages, but has exclusive access to lakefront area, including picnic area with grill and fire pit. Sunrises are amazing. Please note that one or two of the other cottages may be rented at same time, but they would have separate access to adjoining dock area. (See photos). The cottages may also be rented as a package for special events. In all, there are 13 bedrooms sleeping 25 guests. Bantam Lake area is undiscovered gem, with top-quality restaurants, artisan bakeries, natural museum and 35 miles of hiking trails just minutes away. Also, best ice cream in world produced by local Arethusa Farm Dairy. As owner, I am on property most of summer. If I am not around, I have delegated hosting duties to my son Richie and a professional property manager during off-season. Bantam Lake is a conservationist’s dream. Most of lakefront is owned by White Memorial Trust, which preserves bucolic character. Even on busy holiday weekends, there are very few boats on water. Guests can park cars in parking lot near entrance. We have wagons to transport food, etc. to cottage. There are 2 other cottages on property, located in front of this cottage. The 100-foot lakefront/shoreline is divided in half, with this cottage having exclusive access to picnic tables, swimming area and dock entrance. (See photos)

nice spot, lots of outing options

we rented all three houses and it was a nice spot to relax with friends. So many water toys, no shortage of things to do and places to hang out. Kitchens are kinda small but if you plan to eat out, this will not be an issue. Yummy BBQ, Seafood and Ice Cream places right down the road.

Wonderful Wedding Weekend Get-A-Way

My fiancé (now husband) and I stayed with our Bridal Party at Camp David while getting married in Morris, CT. The accommodations were perfect for such an event! We rented 3 of David’s cottages, which all share the same property and are just steps from Bantam Lake. David was very laid back and great at communicating and accommodating several of our needs. He has all of the amenities necessary for a weekend getaway on the Lake including BBQ supplies and equipment for several different water activities. He has a personal handy man that was quick to respond to and resolve a couple of minor concerns. He also offered to help us unload any belongings. We’re so appreciative of David for providing such hospitality and the perfect accommodations for our wedding weekend! We have memories to last a lifetime. Highly recommend!

Fishing Trip

David was an awesome host, very nice guy. We rented for a fishing trip and the house was perfect. Big dock, plenty of room for our boats and great fishing. Excellent property for multiple families or group events, or just rent one of the cottages, highly recommend this listing

Great Lake house for family get-together

The house was spotless. The bedrooms were beautifully appointed with furniture, linens, space and everything you’d need. So many bedrooms with so many beds. We had no problem deciding who goes where with 8 adults and 5 children. Lots of drawer space snd closets. The wrap-around porch is wonderful except that water came on the floor after a mild rain (but it did not drip from above, and it wasn’t much worse after hurricane Ida’s torrential downpour). So we didn’t mind the water on the porch floor much. And we LOVED the porch. The bathrooms are wonderful. The kitchen is well appointed and stocked. TV and internet were great. The lake is amazing. The yard is perpetually wet but otherwise lovely with all manner of outdoor furniture and fire pit. Owner is lovely; and took us on his pontoon as his guest. Suggestion to host: line the walls with hooks! That’s literally the only shortcoming!!! We will be back year after year.

Beautiful sunrises over Bantam Lake

The Bantam Lake area is a wonderful choice for a get-away with nearby beautiful hiking and lake beaches. Camp David is centrally located and offers many options for families or groups to explore them all. David and his family live on the property and are extremely helpful (even through Hurricane Henri!). We wish there had been a canoe and a sandy beach on site.

Family Reunion

Our Bantam Lake vacation turned out to be exactly what we needed for our extended family. We stayed in two of the houses, and the children were busy from morning till night, fishing from the dock (many were caught, but not kept), kayaking, swimming, floating around on tubes. It was very convenient to have everything on location from the time we arrived. The casual atmosphere of the cottages worked well for all the families, and the accommodations inside and outside provided plenty of space. Everyone thought the beds were very comfortable. The wifi worked well for all. The location is close to many great food options. The local towns have lots to offer, and the walking trails in the area are innumerable. David was available and accommodating in every way, an excellent host.

Family reunion

The property was beautiful , looking at the lake was so relaxing. The 10 of us spent most of our time outside swimming , kayaking and boating. There were plenty of tables ,chairs and floats . The lake was very clean and refreshing , we enjoyed eating our meals and making s’mores lakeside. My 4 grandchildren , ranged in age from 3 to 6 loved running around , back and forth down the hill and the lake. It was a total new expierence for them because in Florida , one cannot swim in our lakes. David was very easy to communicate with and always answered my phone calls quickly. The house needs some repairs but Richie the property manager said a handy man was coming. We all had a wonderful time

Bantam

Overall great trip. We stayed at the cottage that is the 3rd back from the lakefront cottage. There was more shared space than we realized (dock was shared, as was the laundry/game room, which is located in the house closest to the lake). David will undoubtedly continue to improve the process and property over time, he was very receptive and kind. The whole family had a great time boating, skiing, roasting marshmallows, and grilling out.

Great Location for Get Togethers

We had our wedding at South Farms and were in search of a property (or properties) to accommodate us and our wedding party for the weekend. When we happened upon David's 3 properties, it was almost too good to be true. We rented all three because of their convenient location to each other and their proximity to South Farms, which was about a 7 minute drive from the properties. It definitely made it easier to not lose certain wandering groomsmen! It is a little bit difficult to locate the driveway to the properties. Just make sure to look for the Camp David sign above the hedges! There were a number of our guests that missed it the first time. Larger or more vibrant signage may have helped a bit. Also, note that parking can accommodate about 6 cars, so plan accordingly. And, don't be concerned by the first house you see upon arrival. This is not one of the houses for rent! Once you walk beyond the second set of hedges, the lake view was great! The fire pit was a perfect meet up spot for everyone at the end of day. If you are planning to have a fire for more than a couple of hours, just make sure to bring extra wood. The available kayaks and floating dock provided for hours of entertainment. The owner, David, is very eager to answer any questions you may have and is very hands-on with his properties. He will meet up with you to assist with check-in and show you around. However, it would be great if check-in / check-out / lock-up procedures were published online and in the welcome information packet because when things got a little hectic with the rehearsal and wedding prep, it would have been nice to have an easy reference to know what to do instead of having to get in contact with David. Also, just to note, there are a number of security cameras setup on the corners of every house. It made some people a little uncomfortable and was worth noting. Overall, a very good experience on a beautiful lakefront property. It made it very simple to have a centralized location for the day of pre-wedding prep (hair, makeup, getting ready). And, once the wedding was over, we had a day of peace and quiet to fully enjoy the lake.

3cottage bantam lake

we were 14 family members -babies, children and adults--initially 2 families stayed in the middle cottage and the rest in the last cottage(furthest from the lake)--accomodations were quite adequate for all of us. enough bedrooms and beds for sleeping, enough space on the porch(last cottage) for all of us to have meals together. the cottage closest to the water(where the owner and his family stayed) has a common area underneath that has a bathroom, washer/dryer, ping pong table, art supplies and table and a table and chairs on an outside porch that could be used to have some meals if u were down by the water. There are plenty of chairs and seating by the water for all to sit and relax. There are 3 kayaks, plenty of inflatable rafts and plenty of life jackets(all sizes). Two access sites down to the water and the dock is a great size, has a bench on it and is great for getting into the water. there is also a raft a few feet away from the dock to swim to or just relax on. The kitchens are adequately stocked. There are great farm markets nearby and within walking distance is NorthShore Fish restaurant for outside dining(order early, pick up and bring home or get your reservation in-otherwise a long wait). Great bread store, ice cream shop, markets are all close by. David is very available by phone if he is not on the premises and his stepson Richie is very amiable and helpful. We had use of a boat for a few hours a day for water skiing and tubing and he would pull right up to the dock to load us all in for sunset cruises(which were spectacular). My family enjoyed every minute of their stay. Thanks David and hope to rent again some time in the future.

I am an immigration lawyer from Long Island. My wife and kids fell in love with the property and the gorgeous surroundings when we first came 7 years ago as renters. We came back every year since and jumped at the chance to own the property, which includes 4 cottages that we have renovated.

What makes this property unique

The word most guests use is "paradise." Bantam Lake is the largest fresh-water lake in CT and will remain undeveloped because a land trust. The area boasts a 400-acre wildlife preserve with 35 miles of trails within walking distance of the cottage.
The dock and 100-foot shoreline are perfect for young children learning to swim. Sports activities include kayaking (on premises), biking, boating, hiking and water-skiing.
