Up North Retreat
We had a wonderful family trip with friends. It's a nestled in a beautiful wooded area right on Big Platte Lake. The water is beautiful and shallow way out so wonderful for little kids. You can watch beautiful sunsets from the dock. We rented a boat for the week and an amazing time fishing and boating on the lake. The location is absolutely the best - close to Empire Bluff, Sleeping Bear, Frankfort, Glen Arbor and Traverse city. The little town of Honor has all your necessities you need but it's a short trip to Traverse. The house was comfortable with all the basic necessities. It was fun to cook in the open floor plan kitchen and there was plenty of seating around the counter. It was has great views of the lake all around and room for kids to play!

Wonderful location
The location on Platte Lake is wonderful. Easy access to nearby towns and activities. The layout of the house is great! Four large bedrooms on second level, and a nice size bedroom with bath on main floor. The kitchen is well stocked with needed utensils, dishes, pots and pans. The owner is very accessible and answered questions in a timely manner. The outside of the house desperately needs to be cleaned and freshened up. It is dirty and dreary. The inside needs a deep cleaning with lots of attention to detail. The two sofas in the family room should be replaced. Everyone in our group mentioned this. Guests who are older cannot easily sit on these two pieces of furniture because there is no support, and it is difficult to get up from them. We did not use the charcoal grill since it was quite dirty. With some TLC inside and outside of this home, it would be a really nice cottage.

Memorial Weekend Family time
Understanding a lake house you always have spiders and ants. He did have plenty of traps but the house needed a vacuum when we arrived. Dead ants and spiders on living room /kitchen floor. The outside of the house needed to be power sprayed to remove all the webs and tons of tree debris on deck. There was a broom so we swept the deck and brushed the webs/spiders off the house. Our little one were freaked by the spiders. Beds were clean. Bathroom had a few bugs and webs in the upper corners of the walls. But mainly clean. Again my parents lived on water for years and we all understand the “bugs” that come with that. The views of the water are very nice and we used the fire pit nightly. Yes we would stay again, Walter was always friendly to talk with.

Not ready at check-in, Extremely Filthy, Combative Host, Fruit Fly Infested, Would NOT recommend!
Pros: Great location, amazing lake frontage, nice size house with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. Plenty of parking space. Cons: Host was living in the house at the time of our 3:00 check-in. The house was disgustingly dirty with food all over the kitchen counters and first level floors and dirty underwear in the bathrooms and literally on a kitchen side table after he threw them there before leaving. The owner was very combative when he showed up and never once offered an apology. He asked for 5-10 minutes to clean up because he was NOT going to lose his $250 cleaning deposit. 1 1/2 hours later, we had access to the house and had to go buy cleaning supplies (broom, dust pan, Clorox wipes, even dish soap) to actually clean the house. It was DISGUSTING. There was a fruit fly infestation that we had to also buy supplies for because they were so bad throughout the entire house. There were signs throughout the house indicating broken doors to not use, and fragile blinds that would be a $20 replacement fee. One of the beds was literally 2 mattresses with plywood in between. The couches in the living room need replaced. The entire inside and outside of the house need a professional deep clean. The outside was covered with spiders and webs. The owner showed up mid-way through our stay requesting his milk out of the fridge and checkbook. We know he came back when we left because we left the counters extremely clean and returned to a mess in the sink and on the counter.

Family Trip House For Sure - Loved This Home
We visited this beautiful home with our children and grandchildren just last week (June 2023). I do believe we've found our "forever" vacation home! The location cannot be beat. If you want to shop, it's close by at any of the surrounding towns. We especially love visiting Frankfort, Glen Arbor and Leland. If you want to relax, walk out the back door and enjoy the huge, shaded deck or lounge on the deck by the water. Our grandchildren, ages six months to age 7, loved the water so, so much. It was a bit cool during our week but we were prepared and the kids still enjoyed the water, our kayaks, the evening bon fires, beautiful sunsets...I could go on and on. The home is just minutes from Peterson Beach which feels like your own personal beach with amazing views. Sleeping Bear Dunes, go to Sleeping Bear Point for spectacular first views. The Empire Bluff hike is also beautiful and not very long if you are looking for hikes for little ones. BoonDocks in Glen Arbor has great food as does Dinghy's in Frankfort. We literally ordered food from the Trading Post which is .2 miles away and walked to pick up our dinners every night. The owner, Walter, was so easy to work with and everything was just as described. Plenty of parking too as we had four vehicles and a boat trailer. Overall, we had 8 adults and 4 little ones. If you have the opportunity, whether you are seasoned visitor or someone looking for a new family adventure, book this home.

5 day getaway
My wife and friends have not been to the Sand Dunes and Leelanau area. We were looking for somewhere central to the area. The house in Honor, MI was just what we needed. The property is well maintained with plenty of room for our 7 adults. The kitchen was clean and had everything you would need to prepare meals. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The only thing missing ,was there is only one tv, BUT HEY, your on Vacation and should be out doing things. I would definitely rent this place again if in the area.

Great for families!
We had a wonderful vacation at Platte Lake. The space is perfect for families. We stayed with our 11 month old and our 2.5 year old, and the space was great for them. The water is shallow far from the shore making it great for kids. Lots of grass space to play too. Great location. Quiet neighborhood, good walking/running/biking. Easy to afternoon trip to Glen Arbor, Frankfurt, and Sleeping Bear Dunes climb. The house was very clean and well maintained. There was limited supplies so plan to bring or buy soap, trash bags, etc. The wifi was not working, I think that was an issue of the cable company though. The dishwasher didn't work, but owner said that was a new issue. I assume will be fixed soon. Our only issue was the doors were not left unlocked when we arrived. I was able to get ahold of owner and get a spare key. But seems like this has been an issue before, and could have been a huge issue. Something that needs to be figured out with cleaning company asap.

Beautiful Lake House in Northern MI
This is a beautiful property on a gorgeous stretch of Platte Lake. The lake house easily accommodated (8 adults, 3 children) our group and we enjoyed nightly picturesque sunsets with a fire pit nearby. PROS: - Large house opening up to a lakefront backyard with a dock and firepit. - Unbeatable location on Big Platte lake - Located amongst a quiet, respectful community of neighbors that were friendly - Easy access to all that the Sleeping Bear Dunes nat'l lakeshore has to offer. CONS (owner aware of both of these and let us know he is working to fix them) - Septic tank is older and when the kids were bathing at night there would be overflow on the west side of the yard. - Wifi capabilities support basic email only. The current remote work requirements due to COVID all but necessitate high speed internet to function. However, knowing this before your visit will help you plan.

Owner MIA
I’ll start with the good. Platte Lake is beautiful and the house is in one of the best spots on the lake. It’s a good arrangement for families and groups. The outdoor space is beautiful. Great fire pit, beautiful yard and a nice, sandy lake entry that was great for kids. The house is sparse but functional, although the lower bedroom gets kind of a musty smell. Typical of lake houses. The main issue we had is that the owner did not send check-in instructions, did not leave keys, and after hours of calling, texting and messaging by us, VRBO and his very kind neighbors, he did not return any calls until the day after we were supposed to check in. We ended up driving an hour to find hotel rooms as the area was completely booked up. The owner finally called the next day, and we were able to get in the house. He was not very apologetic and acted as if we hadn’t tried to contact him. Apparently the error with the keys was the cleaning service, but with what he charges, one could reasonably expect a better experience, availability and some humility in resolving the situation. I would recommend you have a Plan B if you book this house.

Perfect house for a large family gathering
We had a great vacation. The beds are comfortable. We loved the large deck. The lake is beautiful! Every night we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit. There are so many options if we wanted to take off for a few hours. We left there making plans for our next family vacation. Up north Michigan is the best.

Wonderful week on Platte Lake
The house is comfortable, quiet and great for a large family or group. The views are beautiful. The two upstairs bedrooms with the balcony facing the lake were my favorite part. Waking in the morning and looking out at the trees and lake was very pleasant. Watched an eagle catch a fish just in front of the dock. Heard loons calling in the morning. We even had a baby fox make a short visit. And the stars at night were amazing.

Great Family Vacation!
We had a wonderful week at Platte Lake Hi-Day-Way. We had plenty of room for the whole family in the house and it had everything we needed. The yard was perfect for playing games and the lake was perfect for our kayaks, canoe, and paddle board. The knee-deep water provided a ton of fun for the kids! The location of the house is wonderful to explore the area; Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Lake Michigan, etc. We enjoyed this beautiful retreat and we hope to visit again soon.

I'm a retired Automotive Engineer/builder who loves to travel and visit with family. I enjoy Zydeco / cajun dancing, water actives, snowboarding, hiking, cars, motorcycles, and travelling to dance festivals. I have three children, one daughter and two sons. My daughter lives in Houston, TX and my sons live in Boston, MA, and Orlando, FL, five grand sons and one grand daughter. I very much enjoy spending time with my family. I'm living in Denver.

Why they chose this property

I've owned this property since 1980, the property has been in the family since the 50's. I used to vacation here as a child and cherish lots of great memories. In 2001 I decided to demolish and rebuild the lake house. As a licensed residential Michigan builder, my son and I spent three years designing and building a special setting with maximum lake views. The 'peninsula lot setting' with the closeness of the dwelling to the water makes for great lake views. The natural beauty with Southern exposure and love for the area is why this Lake House will be in the Miller family for a long long time.

What makes this property unique

This area of Michigan is beautiful. The float trips on Platte river, climbing The Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, hiking on the wilderness trails with all the wildlife makes for an unforgettable up north experience. The activities/festivals in surrounding cities, local parades, year-round activities at Crystal Mountain, Big lake fishing (coho, salmon), the freshness of the air, the peaceful environment, the beauty of the sun and moon light on the water from the balcony with the wind, sun and clouds creating endless views/beauty. Gambling casinos in Traverse City and Manistee.
