Pioneer Meadow: The cabins at Pioneer Meadow are antique log cabins made of poplar, oak, and chestnut logs purchased throughout the south and restored to their original beauty. The logs were numbered, transported to our property and reassembled.
History: The Lawson (named for it's founding family) was found in Blackwater, Virginia. It was originally built on a hilltop overlooking a huge valley, circa 1790. It is made from poplar logs and restored as close as possible to the original.
Location: 5 miles from Pigeon Forge, Tn off Wears Valley Road. Off the beaten path, this gravel road will take you up the mountain (don't worry, the steepest part is paved) to a beautiful meadow. Convenient to the tourist attractions of pigeon forge and gatlinburg, a short drive to smoky mountain national park but secluded enough that you can here a car driving in from a mile away.
PAYMENT: All payments are due in full at time of booking. Payments are made through VRBO's Homeaway Payments. Homeaway automatically puts a hold on those funds. If we are forced to decline your reservation for any reason, the hold on your funds will take 5 to 7 business days to release. This is VRBO's Homeaway Payments policy. We have no control over this and do not even see your credit card information.

Staying at pioneer meadows cabins was a very pleasant experience. It is so peaceful and quiet we had a very relaxing time. And I will stay there again!
Really enjoyed our stay. Sitting on the porch was a lovely way to start and end to each day. We saw10-12 turkeys in the field our first morning! Would definitely return. Road was a little bit scary—just take your time! And remember, these are OLD houses—still a real treat!
We loved our short stay at the Lawson cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Situated in a quiet little meadow with three other cabins, with room for our dogs to play.
This cabin is just perfect, and the property it's on is so beautiful! We wished we could have stayed longer. It was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. If you're looking for peace and quiet in a cozy little cabin that will remind you of how it must have been many, many years ago, but with the conveniences of today, you will love this place!
This is by far the place to stay when visiting the area. The property and cabins are amazing and beautiful and the fact that they r dog friendly takes it up to even a higher level. Already booking the next trip
I stayed at this little cabin for a wedding I was attending. Just me and my dogs. We loved it. It was quiet and cozy. We made a fire in the fireplace, saw wild turkeys and squirrels, and just really enjoyed our stay. We will be back.
We will be back. The setting was lovely, tranquil and relaxing. Great location, short drive to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Convenient to the park and site seeing. We loved the rustic cabin with all the luxuries of home. Very cozy. Our 10 month old pup was with us and she lived the meadow and wild turkeys. Communication with the owner was good. The drive up is steep and a little bumpy so best to arrive in a truck/SUV but doable in a car.
Property was a nice cozy cabin that felt intimate with a great bath. We did notice an infestation of wasps and beetles, both of which were found regularly inside the home. For that reason, possibly not recommended for children. Otherwise, the property was in great condition and very nice and cozy!
Love the craftsmanship of the original cabin AND the newer touches. Beautiful cabin and grounds. My car was damaged by a deer before we came so we took my 4WD truck... were very glad we had the truck to deal with the drive up and down the mountain. We enjoyed every minute we were there. Highly recommend it... oh... didn't miss the internet one little bit!!!

Liked: Check-in, communication, listing accuracy
We are 60 and 65, going up and down the steps to go to the bathroom is not good. the road was very bad, one car at a time. Had to get the front end of my car line up. It is very hot up stairs at night, you could not fell the air up stairs.
The property is just beautiful and peaceful back in there. The single lane drive up to the cabin was an adventure all in itself, but doable. Very steep like others have stated.
For being such an old cabin one would expect a little dust here and there and it was just so rustic and quaint I fell in love instantly. Sitting on the porch watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee was the most pleasant part of our trip.
We had to cut our stay one day short because of a brush fire that got out of hand nearby, but the owner is going to refund our last day.
If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and get away from it all this is the place to go! We loved how close we were to the Smokey Mountains as that is the other reason why we went.

Historic builiding in beautiful surroundings unfortunately suffers from differed maintnance
Well located property in beautiful setting, unfortunately owner has not dealt with a number of deferred maintenance issues. Issues include burned out light bulbs, broken furniture, mice have eaten the oven mitt, tattered window shades etc. Building itself is very well constructed, no major issues with the heating and cooling just annoying little things that could easily be remedied.
We loved it and would recommend it to others. We loved the abundance of wild life,Turkeys, Squirrels, and Black Bear. The entrance road was little bumpy but not that bad if you go slow. The fur babies loved it also, great place to walk them. Baxter, our male mini Rat Terrier loves to chase squirrels at home, although he has never actually caught one he did give chase a squirrel while there. That mountain squirrel was having no part of it and turned to attacked Baxter instead. They rolled around for a second or two then took off in opposite directions from each other. I haven't laughed so hard in a while.. Now at home he just watches the squirrels with intent. We shall return!
The experience in this old cabin was fantastic. It’s exactly as described. The weather was chilly but they had all the fire wood you needed for the beautiful fireplace. I was up before the sun every morning with coffee on the porch for the sunrise. Just before dark look for the deer in the meadow the cabin faces.
It’s not big, but was perfect for my wife and me.
A couple of things that may help,, bring fire starter bricks. the fireplace draws perfectly,, a fire starter brick gets it going with ease. Bring a couple of bowls. It has some but you will probably need some,, maybe not, we got by.
This was really the best stay in the area I have ever had.
If you want out of the crowd, this is your place. It’s also just a short drive to anything you need as well.
My husband and I spent three nights in the Lawson cabin while we explored the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The driving approach to the cabin was no joke -- a mostly paved one-lane road up an extremely steep hill. We were thankful that we only met one other car on our several trips up and down the road (however, that car was going extremely fast, and it almost ran us off the road!).
The cabin was so welcoming, and it felt like we were staying in a piece of history. In fact, when we visited Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park, we thought that our cabin was way better then those on display, and it was older, too! The location was very close to the national park and to Pigeon Forge (where we grocery shopped and had breakfast one day), which was terrific. The cabin had all the cookware we needed (as we cooked in all three nights), but the fridge was quite small (although that was fine -- we kept our beverages in coolers). We spent our evenings sitting on the rocking chairs on the porches watching the fireflies. With spotty internet, we were able to unplug and be present in the moments spent away.
It would be really fun for a large family to rent all four cabins at Pioneer Meadows! Thanks to the owner for the call prior to our arrival and for a great stay!
