Lovely Retreat

These cabins are lovely and a great way to unwind. Our dogs loved the creek and the second cabin unit was comfortable and nicely set up. I loved all the different places one could sit and unwind on the property. Wine tasting was a five minute walk away.

Lovely (overpriced) Rustic Cabin

We booked both cabins for a small New Year’s Celebration and a chance to say our wedding vows with close family. We ended up paying much more than nearby rentals, but figured it was worth being creekside on New Year’s under the stars. The rustic cabins were darling and the property is beautiful! Wonderfully accommodating for our dogs too. Ping pong table was a blast, and our family enjoyed the small hike to the nearby pond. Would love to come back during warmer months and enjoy the property more. Cabin wasn’t incredibly clean though, closets and outbuildings were unorganized, and there was plenty of dust. Beautiful “solarium” is not made of windows and screen has holes in it. Photos do not specify 2 bedroom plus studio guest cabin. That and the inflated pricing made me rate fewer stars. Also, the cabin was a bit smaller than expected. Working with property manager Shelley was an absolute breeze and check in- check out was super easy! Overall, love the place not the price.

Great surprise lots to explore

We really had fun we made sure and use many of the spaces we had breakfast in the screen room, looking overlooking the creek, which was absolutely beautiful… After breakfast we took a walk up the back path and up the hill and saw some little red chairs, sitting on the crest and much to our surprise we found a beautiful pond filled with little tiny frogs.. The guesthouse was perfect for our teenagers and young adults to pretend like they moved out. We also enjoyed an evening dinner in the outdoor dining with a red door table and a white chandelier. Everything is rustic, but lots to look at and enjoy:-) we definitely created some beautiful memories. Thank you very much and it was super close to the winery where we went to a family weekend wedding event.

Rustic retreat

Cute little cabins in a beautiful setting. My family stayed here for a wedding weekend and it was perfect for us. Probably not where you want to stay if you’re looking for luxury, but if you’re looking to relax, go for a hike, play games and maybe do a little wine tasting then this place is ideal. It is close to many wineries, the Stoney Creek wedding venue and a couple restaurants. On site there is a creek, lots of trees, seasonal blackberries, a game room and plenty of places to sit outside and dine alfresco. This place could use some maintenance, but all in all a great experience. I would definitely stay here again!

Rustic property

This property is great! The problem is has not been kept up. It needs a lot of TLC. Pictures I am guessing is from 2016 and does not appear to had my maintenance or upkeep since. I love rustic. Great place. A few family members and I cleaned playroom, coop, 2 decks scrubed 1 hammock (mildew) washed all outdoor cushions. Did not wash dirty windows. Propane tanks empty. Grill not useable. We all had a great time. The place just needs lots of TLC. Don’t want to spoil good family time with complaining.

Rustic Cabin Getaway

Great location. The many buildings on the property gave a very pioneering feel to our stay. Did not miss having television but wish the house and the cabin had air conditioning because we had highs of 93 to 97 degrees the three days we stayed there, but we made do with the extra fans we brought. A big plus for the property is the varied wildlife we saw during our stay: Wild turkey, deer, squirrels and a few rabbits. We had a great time.

House was not available after driving 6 hours

We had to drive 6 hours to the location. The reservation was confirmed but the manager called after we had driven 4 hours and said the house was being cleaned and we could not be accommodated. Totally unacceptable. We had to find a new place on our own which was extremely difficult. Called VRBO. Not helpful at all.

Cute, rustic cabin in secluded atmosphere

Five of us girlfriends stayed in the cabin for a weekend getaway. The location is wonderful - secluded and woodsy, but also great access to the vineyards of Fair Play. The cabin itself is very rustic. The owner has done a nice job of cleaning it up and making it cozy. It still has a musty feel to it, due to the age of the cabin and the location in the woods. We weren't able to spend much time outside because of all the mosquitos, so bring bug spray if you plan outdoor time. The screened in patio is a lovely spot to sit and chat. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Shelly made sure we had everything we needed for a nice trip.

Perfect glamping experience.

We enjoyed staying here and reconnecting with our 3 boys who are all active duty military. This place gave us space, but also a central area to spend time together. Lots of games and room to hang out. We will be staying here again.

A Truly One-Of-A-Kind Place!

Wilbur’s is such a unique destination. It’s so private and peaceful, yet within a short drive to many local wineries. When we were there the creek was running, so that was a special treat! The sounds of the water were so relaxing. We loved dining outside, watching the sunset, and just lounging around reading. We will definitely stay there again!

Clean, cool and quiet!

Perfect family get away compound. Lots of space and room for everyone. There was so much to do right there on this property that we didn't need to go anywhere else. It felt like a real country experience with all the comforts of home. Very private and relaxing with the gorgeous trees and screened in porch for afternoon napping. The kids and our dog had plenty of room to run around. The beds were comfortable and we all slept in. We're making this our annual gathering spot. Thanks!

Excellent Accommodations and Location!

Wilbur's Retreat provided a very nice and unique stay for our family to reconnect with ourselves, each other and the outdoors. Communication with the hosts Shelley and Sandra was great. We felt taken care of and safe on the property. The cabins are surrounded by tall trees and a creek. There is a large lawn out front that is perfect for sports, lawn games or taking a nap on. Our family rented both cabins which allowed us to all hang out together for meals and gatherings but to also have some alone time in our respective spaces. The kitchen is efficient and well appointed for meals - as with other remote cabins, I would suggest doing shopping and some meal prep before arriving. There are also some great outdoor gathering spots that we used for lunch and sunset happy hour. The location was excellent. You're surrounded by wineries in all directions and a handful are even within a 10 min walking distance (1/4 mile - 2/3 mile). Sandra recommend visiting Mitch at Shadow Horse Winery as well as visiting E16 tasting room - both were excellent suggestions. Placerville and other historic places are just a short drive away. This area also seemed popular with cyclists. We hope to visit again.

Great place to unplug and unwind in cozy country comfort!

Wilbur’s Rustic Creekside Cabin definitely has that cool mountain getaway feeling that begs you to unplug and unwind. We’ve stayed at the property on two different occasions while house hunting for a second home. It’s located in a wonderfully quiet and wooded setting and the owner Sandra has done a great job bringing style and functionality back to an old family property that needed updating. It’s rustic, yet has all the creature comforts of a mountain home — we love the sun porch and all the outdoor spots to relax, play games, read and just chill out. There are all kinds of things to do in the area, from wine tasting to hiking, river rafting, kayaking, skiing and shopping/dining in historic Placerville. There is also a local restaurant, The Pub, just a half-mile from the house if you don’t feel like cooking. We look forward to returning to Sandra’s property again and again, until we find our very own special cabin in El Dorado County!
