About this property

Stone-built Cycladic Farmhouse, and small hamlet, lovely views, sleeps 11/12

A lovely, romantic and rare stone-built small hamlet, modernised but with its charm and original features untouched, in about 6 acres of hillside with outstanding sea views, a beautiful garden and large plunge pool. The Farmhouse sleeps 7, the Pool Room sleeps 2 ensuite, and the Wine Press also sleeps 2 ensuite and has its own kitchen/living room . The buildings have thick stone walls, original fireplaces, bread ovens and wonderful ceilings.
There is also a bed in the through room leading to the Farmhouse bathroom (see photo with yellow wall behind) which means it is possible to sleep 12 although this can be a squeeze and so we do not suggest it.
The Farmhouse
This is an old house, build of stone with timber beam ceilings. It is very peaceful, the loudest noises tend to be goats on the hillside or our cockerels.
The Farmhouse sleeps 7 over 4 bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms lead off the large living room together with a bathroom and the fourth is just below the house.
The living room is large and airy. The kitchen is also large with an electric cooker and a separate gas hob. It is properly equipped. There are terraces for for outdoor eating and sitting around.
The Pool Room
This sleeps two, ensuite and is also below the house. After the Wine Press it is probably the nicest of the bedrooms.
The Wine Press
This is the oldest building on the property and has amazing ceilings of stone with wooden beams underneath. The lower floor is now the bathroom with large bath, freestanding shower, WC, bidet and marble sink. The wine was pressed where the bath is and the juice flowed down to where the shower is. The upper floor has a bedroom and living room/kitchen with fireplace. The living room has a baked earth floor. There is also a lovely terrace with shade provided by mulberry trees and an outdoor shower behind the house.
We also have an additional cottage on the land, sleeping 2, a few minutes walk away which we rent separately so let me know if you might want to be up to 13/14 in total.

Guest access
The house is surrounded by a large garden with olive and citrus groves on many terraces. There is also a large area of kitchen garden. We have almost all the vegetables, herbs, fruits and nuts of the region and these are available to guests in season for free. We also have chickens and guests are welcome to buy eggs if available (probably not in high summer) and our own olive oil.
There is a large plunge pool, measuring approx 5.5m x3m x 1.5m. This is reasonably toddler safe for young children in that it is above ground and only accessed by steps (see photos).
Other things to note
The property is built on a hillside, so there are steps from the car area down to the main house and from there down to the pool. We do have animals on the property including cats, chickens, goats, two tortoises and a donkey. The cats are fed away from the houses and are not allowed into them. If you or any of your party have a cat or other animal allergy or concern we will be very happy to discuss the situation in more detail with you.

How to get there
From Athens international airport there is a 25 minute taxi or bus ride to Rafina, the port. The ferries to Andros take 1.25 -2 hours, with hydrofoil being faster.
The property is about 15 minutes drive north of Gavrion, where the ferries arrive. It is 200m above sea level,10 mins drive (down a track) to two beautiful beaches, Pyrgos and Vlychada and 5 minutes drive to the nearest, very popular taverna (Kossis)

We are incredibly lucky to have Joseph who is both gardener and general overseer of the property. He lives in the house above the Wine Press and will bring you vegetables and fruits from the garden, depending on the season. He will probably also be the one to meet you off the ferry and show you the way to the house.
Cleaning
Our cleaners come in once a week or more frequently by arrangement.

Magical Paradise

I celebrated my 60th Birthday with dear friends in this idyllic, charming, rustic, beautiful, complex. The house tumbles down the hillside with charming bedrooms, cozy kitchen, multiple terraces filled with lemon trees, extraordinary gardens, goats on the hill, kittens, places to gather and places to be alone. It is truly a magical home and we had an indescribable week. You do need to drive to beaches, but all of the beaches were empty and glorious. The houses have everything you would need to cook and live comfortably. It is a week we will always treasure. Thank you to Laura and Napier and the lovely Joseph who bought us fresh produce from the garden, fresh eggs, and homemade olive oil.

Most incredible get-away!

Family of 9 aged 5-77 had an fabulous stay at the Farmhouse. Hosts were easy and quick to communicate with. Having Joseph meet us off the ferry and guide us home eased the first minutes on the island. Joseph and Elani were both lovely. The house itself was everything we were hoping for, authentic, quirky, quiet and off the beaten path. The kids spent hours in the pool. It is a little out of the way (which is exactly what we wanted) but close enough to explore the island. We had a delicious meal at Kosses the closest restaurant. Zorgos beach did not dissapoint. Thank you for everything. I truly hope we can return!!!

Beautiful house and garden on wild Andros

We were sad to say good to this unique property - rich in character and history. With wondrous views over one of the wilder corners of unspoilt Andros it provided a superb holiday base for our group of eight. The main house is a cool sanctuary on the hotttest of days and the shaded gardens, planted with a huge variety of beautiful flowers and fruits, and terraces and pool area provide many pretty, cool spaces to eat and hang out. The kids loved the pool, the goats, donkey and the kittens.Adults loved early morning and evening walks to nearby deserted beaches. We also appreciated the delicious tomatoes, melons, aubergines and other produce Joseph the gardener generously left for us - which we cooked along with fish from Gavrio port handily located 20 mins away. The two lovely pool side rooms provide privacy and all spaces are carefully designed and equipped (the kitchen exceptionally so) with striking decorative touches. The house worked incredibly well for all of our group of children, teenagers and adults. All the tips from the owners made fantastic contributions to a wonderful stay.

Gorgeous retreat!

My family -7 adults, 1 infant- enjoyed a fabulous week at this beautiful, authentic, hillside villa! Very private and quiet. Plenty of space for us all, with gorgeous views, and surrounded by a wonderful garden full of flowers and fresh veggies! The villa had everything we needed; fully equipped kitchen, laundry, wonderful outdoor dining terrace and areas to relax. We took advantage of the local catering service offering delicious home cooked meals. Short distance from a variety of beaches and towns. We would love to visit again!

A magical paradise that I will remember forever

What an incredible stay we had at this gorgeous home in Gavrio! It's hard to know where to start or how to finish singing the praises of the place and people who look after it, but I'll try: The garden is heavenly, with beautiful flowering plants everywhere. The views from every angle were breathtaking. We ate dinner in the gorgeous outdoor dining room every night, and took advantage of the other sitting areas scattered around the property. Joseph the gardener took us on a tour of the vegetables and herbs that were available for our use, and we took advantage of that generosity. My stepson was obsessed with the olive oil from the on-site olive grove. I loved taking a shower from the outdoor shower every day while looking at the Aegean sea the whole time. The kitchen had every tool, plate, platter and utensil that we needed to cook for a large group of eight people. We had one group for the first five days and a smaller group for the second six days, and the owners and Eleni the housekeeper were so politely able to accommodate a quick turnaround with cleaning and fresh linens. The house is located about 20 minutes from the port town of Gavrio, where the ferries come in. While we did see other houses that were nice and were closer to the beaches, none of them had the charm, privacy or character of this beautiful home. We visited all the significant towns on the island, and were so happy that we had Gavrio as our home base. Thank you, Laura, Napier, Joseph and Eleni!

A heavenly retreat

Such a beautiful house, garden and setting with unrivalled views of the Aegean. The ample space and well equipped kitchen, the peace and fragrance of the garden and the proximity to nature ( with plenty of unusual bird sightings) met our needs perfectly.

Paradise Found

Rarely does a holiday destination exceed its billing. This did on every level. This 200 year old farmhouse was described as a family home not a holiday villa, which was just what we were looking for. It was comfortable, superbly equipped and beautiful, with huge character. Set in 6 acres of lush, hillside gardens, it provided an idyllic and peaceful haven with many separate areas in which to either soak up the sun by the large plunge pool or sit quietly reading a book in the shade. We elected to hire two small 4x4s to get around the island and these were not only ideal but also essential for getting to and from the two local beaches; one a tiny shingle bay and the other a secluded beach of rough sand, with water that was crystal clear. Both are about 15 minutes drive down from the house on a dirt road, which meant they could be got to easily whilst ensuring that few others ventured there. We stayed in mid-September and the largest numbers of other users that we encountered on any one day was 4! Communication with the owners was excellent and timely and we were met by them at Gavrio, Andros's port, and they waited whilst we collected our hire cars and did an initial shop for our first night, before guiding us to the house and showing us around. Gavrio is about 20 minutes drive away from the house and shopping for supplies throughout the week was easy and great fun. Gavrio also has some excellent and very reasonably priced tavernas, with dinner with drinks working out at about £12 per head. There is also another excellent taverna only about 10 minutes from the house. One other charming and delicious item of note were the fresh vegetables and eggs that were provided by the owners and their resident gardener, Joseph, who lives in a small cottage up the hill. This really was the holiday destination of a lifetime and we couldn't recommend it more highly.

Perfect place for those wanting a simple , peaceful time away from everything.

Lovely old house with the most beautiful sea view imaginable. Andros, unlike many other Greek islands has not been spoiled by the tourist industry and it is not at all busy even in August. The scenery is wild and rugged with a gloriously undeveloped coastline. We did one of the marked walking routes which was beautiful and with not another soul in sight. If you are looking for tranquility and simplicity this is the ideal place.

Lovely old farm house / great landlords

We have spent a week at Andros with a group of nine. If you like authentic old farm house that's the place to be. Interaction with the landlords was freat: very swift and helpful answers. On site there is a local family helping and cleaning daily (and providing you with fresh vegetables from their garden). Only thing to consider: the place is about 15-20min from Gavrion. So having a car is a must (but there is an outstanding taverna 10min away). We truly enjoyed the stay.

Simple elegance and total peace

This house and garden was so beautiful I was happy merely to sit on a window seat or on the terrace admiring the incredible view. To be surrounding by farmers, go to gorgeous beaches (some sandy and some pebbles) with no one (or one or two people), to eat squid and greek salad in non-touristy restaurants, to visit the lovely town of Andros…. I could go on and on. The wind was usually strong but my migraineur daughter appreciated it because it brought the heat down. This is a very special house indeed.

The perfect rustic retreat

The position nestled into the side of the hill with an outstanding view ensured complete privacy and the perfect base for our exploration of Andros. Vitali beach is a must - one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen

“Magical week on the Island of Dreams!”

Gorgeous house hidden away in the hills with fresh vegetables growing in the garden, and surrounded by sheep, goats, chickens and kittens. The most dreamy get away if you want the true greek experience. The house is completely secluded with beautiful views of the sea, but just a few minutes drive to a whole host of fabulous restaurants run by the most friendly people. Will 100% go back - i didn't want to leave!

Wonderfully personal, feels like home.

There are many lovely things about Andros and where we stayed, and it is with reluctance I say this because part of me doesn't want anyone else to go there. The house was wonderfully personal and feels like the home it is - much much nicer than any hotel. Joseph, the gardener really did bring fresh fruit and vegetables each day. All the beaches we went to had tavernas, each of them charming in their own way. Andros is a beautiful island. As soon as we got home we tried to book in for September, but it was already booked up.

One of the best holidays ever!

We stayed in the beautiful farmhouse for a week in July with a group of friends. Everyone agreed they had had one of the best holidays ever - we did not want to leave. The farmhouse is perfect for a group of friends as well as families with children. The setting is gorgeous - wonderful, uninterrupted views with lovely sunsets across the landscape to the sea. Within a ten minute drive are incredible, deserted beaches with crystal clear water. Joseph bought us endless supplies of fresh vegetables, fruit, olive oil and eggs. He was so kind and thoughtful and we enjoyed meeting him and his family. We ate so well and loved cooking with the ingredients on offer. The kitchen is really well equipped so you can cook for lots of people. All the bedrooms are individually decorated, with their own character. There was a constant breeze so we never got too hot, even at night. We would go back at the drop of a hat. This farmhouse is paradise and Andros is a wonderful island. It's really unspoilt which is surprising given how easy it is to reach it from Athens. We hope to plan another stay soon!

stylish retreat off the beaten track

Will definitely go back. This is a beautiful and very special place, perched on a rugged hillside, looking out over the Aegean. We felt very generously provided for with lots of space and different areas for those who wanted a quiet area with a book. In terms of kitchen and other facilities, the house was the opposite of the usual functional holiday let, with minimal equipment - instead there were wonderful large pans for cooking pasta and huge terracotta bowls for salads - lovely. The gardener was extremely helpful and friendly, and it was a wonderful experience to receive vegetables from the garden and olive oil pressed from his trees. The island we saw was dry and rugged with relatively few tourists. We loved the variety of beaches and swimming in the sea, and especially the countryside on the drive over to Vitali. Can't recommend this atmospheric place highly enough.

Fantastic

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful house; full of character and set in stunning terraced gardens which give the most wonderful views. Everything was made very easy for us; we were met off the ferry and shown to the car hire office and then led up and over the winding mountains to this lovely tucked away gem. The house is set on several levels amongst endless flowers. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the house has everything you need; it has the feel of a home rather than a rented holiday house and is very welcoming and relaxing. There are fantastic beaches nearby which were never crowed – and this was August!

Beautiful house with an amazing view

This is an amazing place to stay with really beautiful views of an extraordinary landscape and the sea. The gardens are particularly beautiful and the splash pool was much more like a swimming pool than a splash pool. The separate bedroom/house down by the pool is especially nice. The house is remote but not too far from two really lovely very quiet coves. Very nice gardener and cleaner nearby to offer help if needed. Highly recommended. Get advice from the owner about car hire as we had problems and she can recommend a good firm.

Heaven

Wow a little slice of heaven - no - actually a BIG slice! This is a delicious property - greeted by friendly care taker / gardener as you step off the ferry - could not be easier ! Car rental no hassle and lead to the property by following care-taker's car! Welcomed by the intoxicating smell of the mature garden filled with herbs and Jasmine and beautiful flowers - it is a treat for all the senses. We loved sitting out on the veranda enjoying the peace and quiet and oh what a stunning view of the sea! My daughters 4 and 6 thought it was a magical place - so much space and so homely and beautiful inside and out! They loved the cute character-fill cats and the lambs calling to their mums and even found a hedgehog too! Such a comfortable property with all the necessaries thought of - we particularly appreciated the mosquito plug ins and nets as well as access to the washing machine and more than sufficient linen for all needs. If you enjoy peace and quiet and nature then this is the place for you - I have never slept better! The beaches are gorgeous despite the interesting roads to get there - luckily the little rental car is powerful so it is worth reaching the white pebbled bays and cool clear waters and often no-one else but yourselves on the beach! The towns people are so friendly - we were at the bakery every day and sometimes twice or more.....we are having to diet now having indulged there as well as the Taverna up the road with the horses as well as the other many many more places recommended by the owner! We were glad to see the pharmacy was a clean and super helpful staff - felt very confident about this especially having young children who may need medicines. The owner of the organic shop near the car rental and ship port parking was also very charming and stocked fabulous wine and various other interesting and yummy products. We felt we had made good friends with these lovely people even in just the week we were there! This is more than home away from home. It is clean and well equipped and no need for every mod con and that is what relaxing is about! The lady and gentleman caring for the house were also friendly despite limited English and discretely cleaned as well as laid fruits ( and vegetables) of the garden on the table for us every day and even made arrangements for us to have fresh fish ! The owner's mum also lives near the property and is charming and very helpful- our girls were very taken with her. Heaven!!

Remote Wonderland

We spent 3 weeks in this lovely farmhouse with 2 children (5 and 8) but had visitors come and go also with kids. The house is a good 20-25 minutes from the nearest town but once you are there you don't want to leave. It's not a place for anyone looking for loads of action or distractions but is for those who love good views, cooking, reading and just chilling out and being a little adventurous. The house is built on terraced levels, so lots of stairs that could be a bit precarious; we and the kids loved it but I wouldn't take Gandpa, who's a bit wobbly on his feet. The house is comfortably decorated, feels warm and authentic, very welcoming and not at all precious. You feel at home to explore all the good book shelves and come in a bit salty and sandy, perfect for a holiday. The pool and especially the outdoor shower were enormously appreciated for cooling off especially lovely in the evening. Spectacular views, lovely beaches (empty even in mid-July!), clean clear water, good depth for children. The garden is a wonderland of colour and also provides food; the friendly gardener would deposit a pile of veg every day on our table and fresh mint tea was our daily refresher. Lots of good friendly tavernas abound, different types of beaches to explore, and the island itself is stunning. We are desperate to go back and share with our friends, we would recommend it highly to anyone with an adventurous and curious spirit.

A spot of magic on Andros!

Two families Just back from a heavenly weeks stay in the farmhouse and are all dreaming of when we can go back!!! If you like an adventure, want mind blowing views of the sea and beautiful landscapes, an authentic Greek home, stunning garden and lots of space this is the place for you, its MAGIC!! The moment we arrived the children were off exploring the garden and amusing themselves coming back with enthusiastic news of their discoveries! We are all real foodies and boy did we eat well!! Lots of cooking and candlelit meals on the terrace table that overlooks the sea and a fair bit of eating out at some fantastic restaurants, we particuarly loved the Greek cafe in Gavrio and the meat restaurant down the hill. Beaches are a treat too and if you really just dont want to go anywhere the pool at the villa is great. Finally end of May is a beautiful time to see Andros as all the flowers are out and its not too hot to go walking. Enjoy!

a wonderful place to rest even with kids...

we were two families with 5 kids, and arrived after traveling for a week. we found a lovely house fully equipped, with an out standing garden ! we enjoyed the fresh fruits and vegetables and cooked the all time.. the swimming pool provided lots of good time for the kids while we sat on the balcony enjoying the view. buy fresh products for couple of days (the minute you get to the house you don't want to go down to Gavrio..when you get there spend some time to read laura's tips they provide lots of info the rooms are very small and simple but very nice decorated they are very hot, when the wind stop and could use a fan , but other then that i highly recommend this place. there is a quiet beach 10 minutes driving down. we stayed 5 nights that weren't enough . the kids loved the house and every one found the room he loved, we will definitely go back !!! A charming property in a romantic location that offers a get away from it all experience and a feel of the Greek islands of yesteryear before development and industrialisation. Probably one of the best spots on the island. Stunning views and not much going on apart from the odd goat or sheep straddling the adjacent hillside. When we went to the local beach (late May) there was no one on it all day. Beautiful. Not a modern property with mod cons and facilities but a family home and a lived in feel. If you are after brand new bathrooms, spacious bedrooms and air con there may be other places that appeal more. If you want far out location, solitude, beauty and simple functionality this will take some beating. A glorious setting and amazing gardens.
