About the host
Hosted by Diane

We fell in love with this extraordinary and gracious beauty. As lovely as the original Mansion is, the 2 acres placed in the center of one of the most beautiful and charming historic Village's in American history. The War of 1812 began in Lewiston with the Mansion's overlook being used to stage the canon attack across the Gorge to attack the British positions. The Marquis de Lafayette enjoyed the hospitality at the Mansion in 1823 . Later in the century, the unique position at the edge of the Gorge make this the hub for fugitive slaves escaping the last 100 yards to freedom in Canada. We have proudly restored this extraordinary piece of American history . Each room and architectural feature has been fully restored to its 1815 beauty. Original columns, fireplace mantels, crown moldings and wood plank floors have been carefully restored . The dining room, which seats 20 is decorated with original art murals depicting the region's geographic beauties. The East Salon overlooks the bridal path and 4000 sq ft stone terrace and the historic monument . The West Room overlooks the beautiful Niagara Gorge and Canada beyond .
Why they chose this property
We had looked extensively for the perfect restoration project and the Mansion with its rich past located in the heart of a Village complete with all the cultural amenities and terrific things to do. Restoring this spectacular Home took ten years of painstaking work and a passion for the work. We have enjoyed restoring this home and sharing it with our extended family. Updating the interior space to create an "historically hip" feel has been an exciting experience. This sense of being part of a beautiful and historic setting is a great escape from our big box strip mall world. It is a gracious world of peace and plenty that we have shared with our neighbors and community hosting lovely receptions. This is a setting that has to be shared with those who will appreciate this elegant ease of another time. . Each bedroom has an updated with chic understated feel. The Gourmet Kitchen features state of art appliances, a light airy feel and a 9 ft wide hearth with original beehive oven .
What makes this property unique
The Mansion is located in the heart of the Region's most desirable area with endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, great food, cultural venues, wonderful shopping and all without traffic in a spectacular setting complete with old world charm. The iconic Falls at Niagara is just a short drive as well. The Wine Country is within a 10 minute drive and is only wine region outside of the Rhineland to create the highly prized "Ice wine". With steps of the Mansion are restaurants offering exciting cuisine and delightful farm to table menus. World Class Golf is just around the corner at the Hickory Stick designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. ArtPark is a summer long performing arts center with both indoor stage and outdoor amphitheater with terrific concerts and plays. The Whirlpool Jet boat is the world's only whirlpool Class V water rapids excursion. Fashion Outlets is 15 minutes from the house and feature couture designer shops. The area has it all while being very much off the beaten path, no crowds, no terrific and the region is a great value as
