About this property

Scandinavian Inspired Chalet, Luxury, privacy, seclusion, mountain views

The chalet was built in 2015 on our 20 acre, mountain top location. The chalet is a one story, 1,000 sq. ft., handicap accessible, open floor plan, free standing building. The design is Scandinavian inspired, eclectic and minimal. High vaulted wood ceiling, custom made furniture and walnut kitchen cabinets, polished concrete floor with radiant heat. We used large amounts of glass (eight feet high on the east and south walls) so one could assimilate with and appreciate the natural surroundings.

The walls are ten feet tall and the wood ceiling is vaulted reaching a height of over twenty feet. All the floors are polished concrete with radiant heat covered by plush area rugs. Other features include air conditioning , gas fireplace, free wi-fi, smart tv, washer & dryer, fully equipped custom made kitchen with walnut cabinets and countertop, custom wood furniture and king size bed. The kitchen table has a marble top over a custom made wood base. All the doors are solid wood eight feet tall.

The bathroom is very spacious with big windows allowing lots of natural light. The shower is large with a zero threshold, white tile and marble top bench. The vanity has two sinks with a marble top. The water closet is private with a touch-less toilet. There is an outdoor shower located at the owners home which is available for your use.

The chalet has a covered porch, wraparound open deck, barbeque grill and fire pit. There is plenty of firewood provided for your use. There is a hammock under some large pine trees thats perfect for reading, cloud watching or just a nap. We have some trails on the property for short walks through the woods. For more challenging hikes, Sam's Point Preserve, with miles of trails, is just a few minutes up the road by car.

Excellent secluded location on top of the mountain

This place is awesome. I could write long review but I'll say one thing. If you can afford it, please go there and you will not regret it! I'm already looking for next stay in summer/fall time. Thank you David. We need more people like you nowadays!

Awesome place for a couple’s weekend

We really enjoyed our stay here! It was perfect for a couple’s weekend away. The space was immaculately clean and so well designed. It was really fun just to snuggle by the fire and look out the windows at the beautiful view. The sky was really impressive at both sunrise and sunset. We were able to bring groceries and cook all of our meals in the wonderful kitchen. Definitely would recommend this place to others!

Incredible design and scenery

The amenities of the chalet were very complete, we had a very comfortable stay. It was a beautiful place too, loved the Scandinavian design. The big windows make you feel really close to nature. We saw a wild turkey with five chicks!

Very peaceful setting

It was a lovely property and with the 8 foot windows you felt like you were outside even when inside. There were thunderstorms off in the distance so we had a wonderful lightning show at night. An apple tree in the yard attracted a family of deer that we got to watch frolicking about. Only disappointment was that our small dog found "treats" under the couch where the Dyson may not have reached. Nothing that a smaller vacuum head and a Swiffer wouldn't rectify.

Incredible views and location

Overall we loved this property. The location and views are incredible and the space is very well done. We got to see many deer come through just out front of the chalet. We ran into some minor issues with the appliances during our stay (the dishwasher stopped working), wasn’t a big deal for us to hand wash dishes but worth noting for others considering the price tag. Other minor things, kitchen has minimal garbage capacity, we had to buy a normal size garbage bag for the kitchen. The garbage in the bathroom is bigger than the kitchen for context. If you like to cook, there is only a mini fridge but if you’re there for only a few days and you’re not extravagant cookers like us, then it was totally fine. Lastly, if you are traveling with your pup, beware of ticks! We found several on our dog. We hope to go back to visit again in the future and highly recommend.

Perfect for a romantic getaway

Cozy, clean, and beautiful place. Even though we wanted to snuggle up by the fireplace the whole time we were there, we also wanted to explore the town a little bit. The town itself doesn't have many attractions, but New Paltz is a short ride away so we spent the day walking around the city, hiking near the Mohonk Preserve, and visiting a couple wineries. Overall a great choice for our anniversary weekend; we highly recommend it!

The Chalet: a place to experience relaxation and find peace.

The external environment, given the magnificent view, alone, is peace inspiring. The unique and elegant interior design delivers feelings of priceless relaxation. The simplicity of the Chalet is sophisticated. The hospitality of the owner is heart-warming. The entire experience is exceptional... Beyond star-ratings.

Amazing weekend!!!

I visited this chalet for a weekend with my girlfriend and it was the most perfect get away from the city. The owner was very prompt with answering and provided perfect details about the amenities in the cabin and even welcomed us with a bottle of wine. The decor and design of the chalet is incredible and even more impressive than the pictures. The floor to ceiling Windows also provide a beautiful view to wake up to. I would definitely recommend this to everyone and will hopefully get to stay here again.

Mountain Views in a Relaxing & Modern Cabin - Book it!

Totally amazing place - exceeded our expectations - from the minimal design, floor to ceiling windows, gorgeous views, high ceilings, concrete floors, beautifully furnished, comfortable bed, kitchen stocked with the basics - all enabled us to chill out, cook, hang by the fire, watch the sun come up over the mountains, and completely relax. While we didn't want to leave the cabin, we ventured out to Sam's Point - a quick drive away for some great hiking. David, the owner, was super helpful and welcoming. We could only stay one night but left feeling like we had fully recharged - if relaxation is your goal, this is the place - totally worth the money.

Amazing Retreat

This property was even more beautiful than pictured. Design of everything from the kitchen, to the bathroom, to the lighting and placement of outlets is fantastic. Beautiful property and views during the day and at night by the fire pit. And everything was so clean and organized, which was the perfect setup for the most relaxing atmosphere! We met the owner upon arrival and he was so pleasant and welcoming! It was a perfect, relaxing getaway and we will go back any chance we get!

Perfect Getaway

My boyfriend and I came here to get out of the city for a quiet weekend. The chalet was perfectly cozy and impeccably designed. Even from inside the house we were surrounded by the most beautiful, serene views. At night we sat outside and made fires in the fire pit. Our host was so welcoming he even left us a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. After two nights, we felt relaxed and refreshed - and didn't want to leave! We loved it so much we're already planning on coming back for a snowy weekend in the winter.

Why they chose this property

I always wanted to live in the mountains having spent all of my life living and working in the New York City metro area. I always enjoyed outdoor activities/sports and started spending more time in the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains in the mid 1990's. Finally in 2009 I moved up here while maintaining my business "down country".

Everyday I appreciate and enjoy the privacy, space, quite and freedom of living on the Shawangunk Mountain. Being only two hours from Manhattan it affords me the opportunity to continue to experience everything the city and surrounding area has to offer while living in the mountains. It's the best of all worlds!
