We truly enjoyed our stay at this property. Jeff is a great host and made sure we were comfortable. He went above and beyond and also provided great recommendations for dining in the area.
Jeff is the ultimate host. Very accommodating and welcoming. This is a unique place to stay that has history and character. Lived the fact that our dog was welcome to stay. We were in town for a baseball tournament and had easy access to restaurants and grocery stores as we needed.
We had a fabulous time at the 1856 House. House is thoughtfully appointed. Beds are very comfortable. Quiet neighborhood. Great location for us - near family, Sound and Atlantic beaches. Hope to return again.
The property has a good amount of space for traveling with family. We were in town for a tournament in Mount Sinai and it was very conveniently located to where the tournament was as well as the nearby town of Port Jefferson for leisure time. It is also close to some great beaches. The property owner is incredibly helpful and responsive and truly goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a great stay and everything they need for the property.
The unit itself is very charming with a lot of finishing touches that make it relevant to its historical background. Highly recommend!
We needed a last minute place that was pet friendly to attend a funeral. The owner was great and stayed in communication. The place was clean and quirky. It was a cold weekend of February - kitchen and bathroom floor is cold but ac heat for the everything else was great and customizable to our preferences. It was easy to find local eats and groceries.
I grew up near here and being able to return and stay so close to the water and Cedar beach was great. Very quiet and cozy too. Will definitely return!
Great place to bring your family and pets. Enjoyed our stay here so much, we extended quite a few times now. Property is so eclectic, spacious and has so much history. We enjoyed every minute here. Great views of the water, short walk to the beach. Go take in the sites of the north shore or enjoy a book, while watching the wild life. Great place to stay. Might extend another week.
Host is great. No issues since we've been here. So much outdoor space for your family and furbabies.
A charming small place, utterly quiet at night and a lovely view of Mt. Sinai harbor. For us it was overflow from Thanksgiving with nearby family but we look forward to actually cooking and spending more time enjoying the sunny porch
This was a really nice place close enough to readily access Port Jefferson & its restaurants as well as the north shore while being on a less busy road. The home was refurbished as needed to be comfortable, but still had its older home character. A very good hang out place.
The owners were great. The few minor issues that came up were readily addressed.
This is a great location for hiking and water access. We enjoyed the area very much.
The apartment is cute and well appointed and easy access to owner if need anything. Jeff furnished the house with a coffee grinder when I inquired.
To be fully honest, I would say that the spiral staircase was not easy to navigate for my husband and me, but our son who is in his 30’s had no trouble. The closed in porch has a lovely view and overall the place is quiet.
The beds and seating weren’t the most comfortable, but in warmer weather when you are outside most of the time it, wouldn’t matter.
Jeff does aim to please and you don’t see him unless he is needed, so privacy was respected.
This is a charming property on the premises of the owners home. The owner is very accommodating and great to work with, we wanted a few days to get away to this area for my birthday and it is central to many of the port Jefferson New York attractions and restaurants. Also if you want to take a trip to the north fork wineries, just taking your time and relax this is a nice location to be homebase. Stocked kitchen and plenty of room for a family of four, spiral staircase is a little narrow but charming once you get used to it. Children can sleep upstairs and have a spacious living room, adults would sleep downstairs in the king bed off the kitchen. Bathroom is very nice. This property is also attractive if you want to bring a dog. Kitchen is great for cooking and spacious. Nice table for entertaining a family of four and possibly six as well. Cozy radiator heat for the colder months, not sure there is air-conditioning downstairs for the hot months but check with the owner. If need be we would certainly stay here again
The host is on the otherside of the apartment. They are very kind and generous. We had an issue with the sink in the middle of our stay and they came over quickly and fixed it with some lite plumbing. Although, the stairs a very steep and super narrow while twisting. I would not recommend for wider or more heavy set visitors. Overall, a nice location and great host.

About the host

My wife and I bought this house before we were married and worked on it with our own hands. We would work in one area and live in another until the whole house was done. I grew up about 5 minutes away, so I know the area very well. My wife and I work as fencing coaches about 10 minutes away .My wife and I were married at the "Friary" which is next door.
Why they chose this property
We just love the location, when you drive / walk around you are in a hidden pocket of nature, while still close to everything else.
What makes this property unique
I love this house and the area. It has everything accessible but it feels like you are away from it all. Half a mile and you can just jump in the harbor (high tide) go kayaking, fishing etc.
