We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the lake fun and nearby attractions! Our group included 6 adults, 2 teens and 2 kiddos. The cove is beautiful and the lake is inviting every day. Caught some fish from the dock, paddled, swam and floated around the lake, made a few trips to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and rented a boat from a nearby place. Owner was prompt and friendly in answering all questions. The hill is for real but it made for some fun and kept us in shape.
The peppery was clean and what we expected based off the listing. The location right on the lake was perfect!

Not what we were expecting or what was advertised
I would love to give them a 5 star review but we definitely did not have a 5 star rental. Our party was 6 adults, 3 teens, and 2 children.Kitchen: They don’t have a large pot to cook in for pasta a meal that will accommodate our party size. You would think if a place sleeps 15 people they would have cookware that can accommodate. There was also no baking sheets and only 1 singular oven mitt. All of the dishes felt gritty, and quite a few needed to be hand washed. There was only 1 roll of paper towels for 11 people to use. Grill: we had to go out and buy charcoal for the grill and lighter fluid to use the grill Bathrooms: there was not enough toilet paper in the house to last us the 4 nights/ 5 days we were there. We had to go out and buy some to get us through our vacation. And the water pressure in the showers was minimal.Pool table: there was three pool cues and 2 of the 3 were bent so you weren’t able to properly play. King size bed room: the overhead light was non operational and the only source of light in the room was a bedside lamp. Queen bedroom downstairs: it’s advertised as having a queen and 2 twin beds. It was a queen and 2 cots. Saying it was “queen and 2 twins” is quite misleading.Downstairs “pull out couch”: you can’t call it that. It’s the thinnest mattress on a broken fold out frame. Needless to say, it was not sleep-able.We have stayed in our fair share of vacation rentals and this is definitely by far the worst any of us have stayed at.
We had a little bit of trouble checking in since we did not receive the VRBO check in email but everything else was great. Kayaks, noodles and floats to use in the lake, hot tub for relaxing at night and lots of outdoor space to enjoy the view. There were plenty of beds for our group and close to Gatlinburg, Dollywood and white water rafting. A great time for all ages!
The house was extremely clean and had all the kitchen items we would need. Two kayaks for the kids to go out on made it extra fun. Lots of life jackets there for use. Our kids fished off the dock. They have some board games and the hot tub was clean and got good use! I highly recommend this house to anyone. 25 minutes from downtown Pigeon Forge. The owners were very responsive also!
I had a small issue on my part with the payment. Mr. Chester was super helpful and responsive and helped clear it up right away. He was always available for questions and responded right away. Everyone had a great time. I highly recommend this place for families.

Great weekend!
Overall the experience was great! However there were minor flaws with some furniture. For example a stool in the kitchen, the pool table, and one of the pull out beds all needed repairs. I took pics of everything, and contacted the owner because I was fearful we maybe charged. The home is very spacious and my family wants to go back!

Wish we could have written a longer review. Note: May 29 owner reviewed his own property!?!
We expected a quality rental given the cost. The amenities are not HGTV-worthy, as touted. Upon arrival, bathrooms smelled of urine & the kitchen sink was slow to drain. The sink drainage grew worse. Maintenance workers came out Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday AM & PM,unable to clear the drain. Maintenance told us this was an issue for previous renters that they hadn’t been able to fully fix. On Thursday, the main floor was occupied by the plumbing crew & equipment for much of the day. The owner was apologetic & tried to resolve the issue,he offered to have a cleaning person wash dishes & stayed after the plumbing crew left to wash dishes. What left us more disconcerted than not having a functional kitchen for ~3 days was his insistence that “these things happen”while not owning responsibility for knowing that this was an existing plumbing issue that happened to worsen during our stay.
Other items that are not HGTV quality:$ store quality silverware, 10 forks; $ store quality Coffee maker/toasters;Toilet in 1 bathroom not secured, wobbled with use; sheets were thin some w/holes; Not enough towels, many old & thin; 6 washcloths & 3 dish towels in entire house; Kitchen pans were rusted/Teflon scratched off; Cooking utensils were broken or melted; Paddleboard fills with water. Listing advertises 2 kayaks, there's only 1. A February review notes problems w/downstairs bed; owner says they will address it. Bed is unchanged. Light in a bedroom didn’t work. The owner blamed the bathroom smell on us peeing on the floor, the plumber informed him that liquid on the floor was because the toilet was not properly bolted down. Cleaning the toilets did not fix the smell. The hot tub didn’t work. Owner accused us of unplugging the fuse at the main electrical box, informing us that his maid assured him she left it powered. The lift that opens the cover was broken with sharp pipe ends exposed. Note the change in reviews since we booked in August ‘17. Most were 5 star, but recent reviews are less positive.
For the inconvenience of not having a functional kitchen for nearly 3 days the owner refunded 1 night’s stay plus cleaning fee. He went shopping when informed of the issues above, returning with some new pans, forks, towels& utensils. He put air fresheners in the bathroom, which made a flowery urine smell. He stated he was hesitant to provide a refund because he expected us to write a bad review. We would stay on this lake again but we do not recommend this house.

We had higher expectations
Let me preface by saying that the owners were notified once during our stay at this property and once on our way home. I received a response during our stay, but it has now been 2 weeks since we've left and I've still not heard a word back in regards to my final message. So, time for a review.
The view and the amenities; paddle board, kayak, dock, and hot tub are the only reasons I'm giving this property a 3 star review.
My friends and I came here for a girls weekend, and that's what we had. However, the cleanliness of the home could be much improved. This house didn't feel like home at all. There were cobwebs and living spiders in the corners of the rooms and we had a horrible ant problem in the kitchen and upstairs bathroom.
I notified the owners regarding the ant issue, since they were on counters where our food was at, and was asked to call their housekeeping person to come by. For multiple reasons, I did not make that phone call; primarily because I'm a renter and that should not be responsibility. The girls and I figured we could deal with the ants and take care of them as we saw them, but by day 3 of our stay they had made their way into each of the 4 vehicles that were parked outside. We had to go to the store to get ant traps so we could drive home the next day. They really were that bad!
In my final message to the owners after our stay, and without response, I let them know that overall we enjoyed our stay but had the following concerns:
The house was full of cobwebs and spiders. The drain in one of the showers wouldn't drain appropriately and kept backing up with water. Not a huge deal, although I felt the need to make this known since there are dozens of signs and notes posted throughout the house regarding 'fines' if they have plumbing issues. The coffee pot was missing from the kitchen. Also, not the end of the world and we were fine improvising.
I wouldn't have necessarily addressed any of these concerns in a review, but the owners were given adequate time to respond to my message and just chose not to. I thought being an owner that they would appreciate any feedback to make future stays more enjoyable, but apparently not.
As I mentioned before, the amenities are what made this stay enjoyable, but the lack of response from the owners, the dirty house, and signs everywhere that made us feel on edge that we would be fined for literally anything, were enough to sway my friends and I to never stay here again.
The house was very nice and it’s a beautiful setting on the lake! The setup was nice. The kids played pool and the hot tub was situated so we had a great view of the lake! Check-in was extremely easy and the owners were extremely accommodating. They let us check in early which was very helpful! If you want peace and quiet this is a great house. It was a little far from town but that’s on us, I didn’t pay attention to the location from town. Overall it was a nice stay and we had a great time!
The mountain roads getting there were eye awaking. So, warning.
However, the property was beautiful. The Chester’s have thought about everything.
Rented a boat, and the lake was amazing!
Enjoyed the kayaks. Made large, throw down meals. Kinda missed the working blender, but no worries. We made do just fine.
Enjoyed sunsets on the back porch.
Justin was so great to talk with. Provided great tips.
Wish I could share photos.
Would love to stay here again.
We stayed here last year and enjoyed it very much. Several of us enjoyed the kayaks to explore the lake. I just enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the lake and surroundings.
The house was very clean & spacious. Beautiful view of the lake, lots of windows. Nice deck area on 2nd story out back. Plenty of towels, beds were comfy. Fans and air conditioning worked great.
A couple things that in no means would stop us from staying here again.
- there was only 1 dish towel and 1 pot holder in the kitchen
- 3 of the 4 bedrooms had closets (the king bedroom had no closet) but no hangers (yes there are dressers in each bedroom), They really could use a luggage holder esp in the 4th bedroom w/out a closet.
- the bedrooms are dark, 1 overhead light with a fan & 1 lamp on 1 nightstand. Could use night stands on each side of the bed with a lamp instead of just 1 side.
- the upstairs LR area could use more lighting by the couches. There was not enough light to read by with just the over head lighting.
- could maybe use another fridge downstairs, with as many people as this house holds the 1 fridge got filled up fast.
Overall a wonderful place to stay.
This was an absolute dream! It’s quietly tucked away from the bustle of a busy town, but a short drive to attractions at Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
We had an amazing time! Everything was very clean! There was also 2 kayaks available for use without charge. We really enjoyed kayaking, fishing and swimming. After a long day, the hot tub was an added bonus! The place was very clean and neat. The balcony was wonderful to sit and read while watching the teens kayak. We will definitely be back!
Also Graze burgers is a short drive away. Their burgers were soooo good!
The host was wonderful. After we left, the cleaners found our phone and the host mailed it back to me at no charge. Honesty and integrity are something hard to find these days, so I am very grateful!
Accurate Description & Expectations - Beautiful Peaceful Place
Two families stayed over spring break, both with dads and boys who love to fish. They were able to fish from the dock (didn't catch much) but had fun anyways. House is plenty spacious for 2 families with kids. Boat rental nearby which is convenient. 2nd story porch is lovely to enjoy the scenery and have late night outdoor conversations. It's a quiet place but still within a 15 to 30 min drive to stores and restaurants. Kids enjoyed the pool table, hot tub, and exploring around the waterline. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Everything was great. More than enough beds and room for faimly and friends. Was never board at the house and close to fun activities and restaurants for the price. No one could find one bad thing about the house. Highly recommend renting this house.
Beautiful property located on Douglas Lake. Great view of the lake and the surrounding hills and the trees with their fall colors bursting out. It was peaceful and quite. Just a great weekend with family.
Nice house on a hill overlooking the lake. Had everything we needed. We parked our boat near the house dock. Store and gas nearby, about a 15 min drive. Gatlinburg was a bit of a drive, but doable if only going once or twice during our week stay. Happy to have stayed in your lovely home!

We are local East Tennesseans. We have a love for Tennessee & the four seasons this part of the country offers each year. We are drawn to the lake as well as the beauty of the mountains and wish to share this tranquil Lakefront home with others.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Cozy Hideaway the minute we pulled in the driveway. As we watched the sun set over the main channel of beautiful Douglas Lake we knew we were home. We feel blessed to live in East Tennessee and have been drawn to the many lakes in our area as we love being on the water. We feel that Cozy Hideaway combines the amazing beauty of a spectacular East Tennessee lake with the infamous Smokey Mountains that we feel are second to none. We hope you can simply sit back and enjoy the peaceful serenity that Cozy Hideaway offers.
What makes this property unique
We own the adjoining property VRBO#3613410 and can sleep up to 28 people between the two homes. Guests then have access to 600 Linear feet of lake frontage and private cove. This would include two docks and private launch ramp.
Gorgeous lake frontage. Sailing directly out of your private cove offers you immediate breathtaking views of Mt Laconte from any point on the lake from the location of this lake home on Douglas. Our property allows fisherman and boaters access to launch their boats and store trailers on a private point with water access all year.
