Your back door opens right onto Mt Sherrill! Enjoy coffee, lunch and a glass of wine or local craft beer watching the clouds move amid mountains or June bugs over an extensive field. Brand-new Solo stove delivers more fire enjoyment with less smoke. Renovated with a brand-new bathroom, kitchen, luxury mattresses and bedding, this modern 1800's barn with authentic details sits on the picturesque street in one of the most beautiful Catskills villages, West Kill ("West Creek" in old Dutch). This is a hikers' and nature lovers' paradise, which is also the fly-fishing capital of the world -- the shallow pristine creek is just across the street is a source of drinking water for NYC. The creek is perfect for kits: picturesque, super-clean and home to many exciting animals like frogs and trout!

We love European-style bedding and hope you do too! All blankets are duvets and are enclosed in duvet covers that we thoroughly wash between each visit. As a result, all the surfaces you touch in the bed are clean and you do not have to ever touch a comforter that could have been used by someone else like you would in many hotels. That also means that you do not need a flat sheet -- we hope you find that the duvet cover is a more comfortable and practical solution!

We loved our stay at this adorable rental. We were so comfortable and loved having the kitchen to make our big morning breakfast. We had a fire in the yard, it was so relaxing. We drove a little way away and went fly fishing. The Mountain Views are amazing.

Tucked Away while not too far away

Amazing times had while we were maxin’ and relaxin’ between sight seeing. Loved having the creature comforts of the city (laundry, tv, wifi) without cellular service. It was nice to partially disconnect. We will stay with Irene again! No doubt.

More fun and rest in West Kill

My daughter and I had another great stay at Irene's digs. Over the holidays, we took our dogs on some relaxing walks, had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at nearby Peekamoose Restaraunt, and were awed by the snow-dusted mountains that surrounded us. Thank you again!

Singing in the Rain

Irene was a great hostess and very informative with historical areas to explore. The house/barn was clean and everything was just as advertised. Even though it rained, there were long enough breaks where we could go hiking and even BBQ one night. Make sure to check out all the streams/creeks after a rainfall…beautiful with the rushing waters. I would go back again to explore the area more.

Lovely week in the Catskills

We had an excellent time staying at Irene's place. Clean, quiet, and well situated, we'll be be back. There was lots to do in the vicinity. We visited the Farmer's Market in Lexington on the weekend and brought home foods to make a feast. Also, ate out at a nearby excellent restaurant, hiked the considerable trails, and most importantly, found some time to fish the fly on the right-there West Kill creek. Awesome.

Rustic charm

Our stay at Irene's place was cozy and very appreciated! The place was very clean and comfortable. It was easy to get to and not far from ski mountains and the town of Phoenicia. There was a full sized oven to cook on which is good for those who are interested in cooking their meals. There is also a dishwasher and washer/dryer combo. Both great when you are planning on staying longer than a weekend. Irene was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had and even was flexible about our earlier arrival due to some snowy weather. Like another person commented, there is some road construction right now making the journey to Hunter a little longer, but overall if the weather is fine, there is still an easy route over the mountain. I highly recommend this charming little house and look forward to booking it again for my family!

Lovely Getaway

Our family of four had a wonderful stay. The house was warm and cozy and we loved every minute. Our two children loved the foosball table and the fun magnetic dart board. We had a great day of skiing at Belleayre mountain. The recommended dining at Peek A Moose and Chicken Run were spot on. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Cozy Barnhouse

We enjoyed our stay! The house was warm, clean and fun. Our son played the guitar and both kids loved playing foosball and watching Netflix. The beds were comfortable too. We loved that the hosts provided coffee for us to enjoy—very thoughtful! The ride to Hunter Mountain was a little farther than expected because of roadwork, but a fresh coat of snow made it worth it. We would enjoy visiting again. Christen January 2021

... a truly great holiday experience

Irene couldn't have been a better host. Communication - from the outset - was concise and accurate. She even found a way to accommodate my daughter's early arrival. The converted barn was unique and reflective of my New England roots. (the spiral staircase to the upper sleeping loft reflects a mystery writers room... I parked there for the week). More important, and given the times we live in, the property was immaculately clean. Never a worry about Covid issues. Further, the kitchen was sufficiently equipped for us to prepare our rather elaborate Thanksgiving dinner. Nice to have a large, new dishwasher for the clean-up). While I'm pretty familiar with the area, we were greeted with a guidebook-like description of area attractions and graded hiking trails. For anyone planning to ski Hunter or rt. 28 area slopes this is an outstanding home base. We'll be back in the future.

Hi, We love NYC and the mountains. In West Kill, in particular, mountains are everywhere, the nature is pristine (this area is part of NYC watershed), and life could not be simpler and better, especially when it is filled with all the modern conveniences!

Why they chose this property

Let Sherrill Mountain (elevation 3540 ft.) be your backyard. In addition to spectacular views and pet-friendly meadow, enjoy the pristine West Kill creek across the street behind the church (or another public access point along Spruceton Road), and camp and explore nature at another creek nestled in a private 5-acre forest we own 15 minutes away on the back of Hunter Mountain (instructions provided with check-in)!

Enjoy mountains and trout creeks all around. Drive 15 Minutes to Tannersville, Phoenicia and Windham Villages for great restaurants and more. Hike to North Dome, Devil's Path+!

A pristine shallow (1-2 ft deep) West Kill creek, a source of drinking water in NYC, is just across the street. It is rejuvenating, filled with trout, and is great fun for grown ups and kids of all ages. Chipmunks, woodchucks, deer and hummingbirds are abundant for nature spectating.

Enjoy the latest climate control, hot water and newest appliances, as well as comfortable beds and a full kitchen, in this 1800's converted farmhouse with preserved original touches and unobstructed mountain views!

Our Top 10 Favorite Things to do near Hunter Mountain Cabin:
10. The World's largest kaleidoscope and Woodnotes, the restaurant, that serves a very nice breakfast (white tablecloths), both at the Emerson complex on 28.
9. Horseriding: Mountain Brook Farm and Dancing Horse Farm in Windham.
8. If you like history: a former Colgate mansion, is now a Deer Mountain Inn, and is open to the public as a restaurant.
7. Windham movie theater: you sit on plush couches, enjoying food, while watching a big-screen performance.
6. Local brew: West Kill brewing at the end of Spruceton Road.
5. Hangout: Spruceton Inn was once a haunt of Arnold Swartzenegger.
4. Culture: Tannersville offers a number of options, including art galleries and music venues. Tannersville also has the best fun lunch: Mama's Boy in Tannersville is a pure joy.
3. Hiking: We are within 5-15 minutes from the best hiking trails Catskills has to offer. Trails lead up Hunter Mountain to the fire tower from the end of the Spruceton road.
2. Dining: Peek-a-Moose in Pine Hill is a tasteful dinner conglomerate run by ex-Gramercy Tavern chef that includes a formal dining room, great bar with local beer, and an outdoor fire pit with cocktail service and s'mores. Phoenicia Diner is cool and Phoenician Steakhouse makes great steak. For best ribs ever and great kid-friendly food, head out to Chicken Run in Windham. Our French friends' favorite Shandaken Inn offers tasteful and civilized contemporary take on haute French food. If you long for a hip Williamsburg vibe, head over to Chappies in Roxbury.
1. Breathtaking endless mountain views from the back garden! The best place to enjoy the cleanest air and watch the clouds go by as you kick back with a local beer or a glass of wine!
