Peaceful paradise in rural Vermont!

I was one of two authors using this home as a writing retreat in early November. It was after peak leaf season but still stunningly beautiful. This property has to be seen to be believed. The house is comfortable and easy, well-supplied and high-end, but not fussy. I will definitely return! The views can't be beat. The sun sets over the mountains and the wall of windows overlooks a beautiful meadow. It feels isolated in the very best way but also cosy and homey inside. The furniture and features make for a very comfortable stay. We had no complaints at all! Highly recommend.

Fall getaway

We found Rochester and Modern Farmhouse to be a great location for our Fall stay. The home was well equipped and the downstairs bed was very comfortable. The living room and dining room set up were great. The kitchen had everything we needed. We had our dogs with us, and they enjoyed sunning themselves with all the glass windows. There is radiant heat in the home which took a bit to work out with the adjustment of the heat especially with all of the glass windows. We mostly opened windows in the day and didn’t use the radiant heat at night. The bathroom floor was partly unfinished in the main bathroom. The location is great for quiet. We enjoyed a couple of meals out in the town of Rochester.

Beautiful Property with Cozy Feel

This home was extremely well-designed for comfort. Need to know details were described well by the owner, and all needed amenities were available. We stayed during a very cold winter weekend and the house maintained a warm and comfortable temperature, allowing us to relax with family while enjoying the visual beauty of the surroundings.

Relaxing, as alwasy

This was our second visit to this property and I think it may have been even better than the first. We had some hiccups leading up to our trip, health-wise, and Jay was more than helpful and willing to accomodate us if we needed it. Having been to this property last year, we were more familiar with everything, and the area, and found even more places to explore and restaurants to try. We loved every minute, and our dogs did, too--they are still tired, three days after returning home! You can't find a nicer home in a better area. It is quiet and relaxing, and everything is stress-free. The steam shower? To die for after a long or cold day! The house is stocked with books and games, and lots of pantry items in the kitchen if you want to cook. The house just feels like home. Rochester has everything you could immediately need, and anything else is around an easy, 30 minute drive. I will caution people traveling with their dogs-on our last day, there were some cross country skiers on the property while we were outside playing in the snow with our dogs. I'm not sure if they were neighbors, or outdoor enthusiasts visiting the area, but one of our dogs was not a fan of them getting so close to the house, but in both of our trip over the last two years, this is the only time that has happened. I definitely recommend this property. Whether you are looking to get outside and be active, or just relax, you easily have the best of both worlds-you won't be sorry!

Ski getaway

This place was perfect for us and our adult children! It has an amazing view and is surrounded in peacefulness. The large open common area set up allowed for puzzle making and movie watching at its best. The bedrooms each with their own bathrooms were private and comfortable. It was ideally located between Killington and Sugarbush, two of our favorite ski mountains. We already have another week booked later this season!

Great weekend in Vermont

We had a great family long weekend at the property. The house is beautiful and has several great seating/gathering areas. In addition, the bedrooms and bathrooms are nicely appointed. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking pans and we easily cooked a couple dinners at the property. The location is great, about a 40 min drive to Sugarbush where we skied several days and just a ~5 min drive to a couple great local restaurants and stores. Finally the host was very communicative , which is always a plus.

Exceptional Experience Marsh Brook

A diamond 5 star stay. Residence is appointed to a high level and the kitchen gourmet better than we have enjoyed with many flats in Paris. Lovely great room, grand views, a wonderful place to reside. A flawless time in every respect. The managers of the property were quick to respond to any questions regarding the property and accommodated some last minute requests warmly. Thank you for the perfect experience.

My Favorite Rental

My husband and I were looking to get away with our dogs, as we like to travel during the winter. I cannot say enough great things about this property and the owners. Jay was quick to respond to any questions, and while the pictures are beautiful, but still do not do the property justice. When we arrived, we were so impressed with the cleanliness of the home as well as the outside views. The weather was beautiful, and we were able to sit outside while our dogs played in the snowy field. They haven't been this tired in a long time! We didn't plan a lot of activities, because we wanted to be forced to relax, and this was definitely the place to do it. The home was so soothing and relaxing, and had anything you could need. The quiet of the outdoors, with the beautiful mountains and sunrises was amazing. I can't recommend this property enough, and we hope to be back in the near future!

Nice house but had problems

Nice house in remote Vermont. Beautiful views. Quiet. We went during hot part of summer. No A/C, didn’t need it, used cross breezes instead. A few unexpected surprises: dirty dishes in dishwasher, dirty toilet upstairs, some dust bunnies, buckled flooring in kitchen, no hot water in upstairs bathroom sink. Master bath major water damage to floor (3'x8') in front of shower and into bedroom a few days before we arrived. Repairs were started and was told Master could be problematic to use. Jay was partly right. Couldn't use Master shower as door seal had too tight a fit/couldn't open door by myself. Master closet missing wood flooring so couldn't use that either. Initially chose this house because of first floor Master. Had to use upstairs smaller bedroom (paid for 3 bedrooms, only 2 usable + paid for a house with a hot tub, no hot tub-owner didn’t offer partial refund). Upstairs bathroom window has no privacy shade and faced nearby houses (they had an outdoor party one night, so I changed behind the door). Disappointments aside, we put in the effort to make our stay work.

Always excellent!

Have been going to Jay's house for several years now, and it never disappoints. Its location is peaceful and picturesque, and a great base from which to venture out into the villages of VT. The house is always clean and tidy, well stocked, and comfortable from the moment of arrival. We can't imagine visiting VT in any other way now!

What VT is all about

Gorgeous views, peaceful location and comfortable accommodations. This was a great get away for our family of four. The property offered an excellent place for our dog and rambunctious five year old to run around. The beds were comfy, kitchen and living areas were perfect. We had such a relaxing time we extended our stay an extra night which Jay easily accommodated. We hope to be back to stay in the fall!!

Special setting, special home

We stayed for 1 week in July. The home is situated beautifully to take in the gorgeous Vermont views as well as the flora and fauna in the field in front of the home. This is a beautiful home, clean and well appointed. There were a few things that were damaged (by a previous guest) upon our arrival (2 screens leading to the outside, a stripped faucet turn), but Jay was very responsive to messaging and the property manager came and took a look- fixing the faucet, and made plans to fix the screens after our departure. We did not receive the information about check in ahead of time, so that was a bit confusing, but appeared to be simply an accident and not the usual practice for this home. The information provided was thorough and helpful, and there was a printed copy in a binder at the home that we were able to use as a reference. The kitchen was great to use, although others who stay here should be aware that the refrigerator sounds an alarm if not closed properly (one of our party was confused and thought the smoke alarm was going off). I would give this house my highest recommendation, beautiful and quiet setting, lovely home, and nice amenities (see steam shower!).

About the host

Host profile image
Hello Everyone, Im Jay!

I grew up St Louis, have spent my career in finance, and have had the good fortune of living in San Francisco, Chicago and New York.

I consider myself a mild outdoor enthusiast who enjoys skiing, hiking, trout fishing and basically just being in the mountains. I also enjoy traveling to just about anyplace with interesting architecture, food, culture and landscapes. Lately, Southern Europe seems to be a favorite.

As a host I do my best to be attentive, responsive and provide a worthwhile experience and as a guest I try to be respectful, aware and someone I'd want to have in my own home. I really appreciate the Air bnb community and look forward to the many experiences ahead!

Why they chose this property

Rochester has everything you'd expect from a quaint New England mountain town. Six ski areas within 45 min drive. Fly fishing, golf, hiking, cross country skiing, mountain biking , river tubing etc. Lovely village with town square and white steeple church. Organic bakery and bookstore, charming couple owned bistro, country café with old school soda fountain, plus an historic inn/restaurant with tavern serving excellent craft beer. Art gallery, bike shop and full grocery store.

What makes this property unique

Bucolic Serenity. Unmatched home and location. Vermont heaven.
