Disliked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Dead bugs 1 was definitely a roach.
We didn't even stay at the home after walking around it seemed like things were only superficially cleaned but as we walked around the house it be came clear that it was not really done well. The couches had dog fur all over (one more so than the others). The biggest issue was the dead roach and no one in the group was will to stay at that point. We spoke with the owner who lead up to things was very nice and even during the process but was not willing to do a refund. After only being at the home for about an hour we packed up and left to stay in a hotel. We will have to pursue a refund through the credit card company. Not happy with how things turned out as far as cleanliness.
We really enjoyed our stay! It was relaxing and peaceful! We made the most of the nice weather and found plenty of room to enjoy being outside! We had a very nice time!
The home was very spacious. Bedrroom nice size. Fully stocked very large kitchen. Love the layout. Enjoyed the hot tub. A slight musty smell in the hone in general. Linens smelled soured. Please change the mattress covers they may be clean (I hope) but they are terribly stained. 2 of our couples washed their bed coverings because of the smell. Both ovens are in desperate need of cleaning. The grill was dirty and therefore unusable.
Just what we needed. Peace and quiet. We had such a nice time grilling for our kids and hot tubbing. Walking around the property was an adventure. Lots of corn fields and deer to admire. Great place to unwind.
The property was not as described. One picture shows another building nearby and when the property owner was asked, they indicated that it was a rental but was under renovation. They did not notify me that it was going to be occupied during my stay. We managed to get one relaxing night after our surprise neighbors had left. The other nights they partied late into the night (past 2am) and were also lighting fireworks and were drunkenly screaming and/or singing.
The property was not cleaned as there was a toad in the bedroom, dead bugs in the kitchen sink, rat/mouse droppings in some closets and the jacuzzi had brown debris floating in it and on the sides. Unfortunately, due to the state of the jacuzzi we were not able to use it. We luckily brought our own cleaners. Since we could not trust what had been cleaned prior to our arrival, we spent some of our time disinfecting and cleaning what we could. It was clear this property does not adhere to higher levels of cleanliness in response to COVID.
Safety of the property was a concern as the neighbors had parked us in for a time and we found two doors that did not lock. Several windows and door locks were not set when we arrived and I would encourage any future visitors to verify the windows and doors when checking in.
The listing also indicates an ice-maker but we were not informed this was not able to be used. I would suggest the listing be updated as such and/or the owners notify if amenities have changed from the posting. It would have been sufficient to have an available ice-cube tray as a replacement.
Overall, we did not have a pleasant stay and did not appreciate that we were misled. The owner, when contacted, also did not take my safety concerns seriously.
I hope this review helps a future vacationer choose another home if they are looking for a relaxing and secluded getaway.
Had a great time fishing, hiking, and relaxing. Wish the golf cart had been available but we enjoyed the trails on foot since it wasn't. Beautiful property and so quiet.
We enjoyed our time and loved fishing in the pond. We walked the trails and saw deer in the cornfields while fishing from the pond. The house is large and would be perfect for a large family to enjoy. I will keep this on our list of places we would return to again.
The property was very nice. The house was clean and neat. We enjoyed the peace and quiet setting on the enclosed front porch, while watching the deer play in the field. The location was great. My husband was able to go on his morning walk on the trails. He loved checking out the ponds on the property and see all of the wildlife. We will recommend this location to family and friends. My husband and I look forward to visiting again soon.

About the host
Your host
My husband and I were born and raised in Southern Illinois. He grew up farming and I was raised in a small town. Country living is what we love. Our family has been extremely blessed to be able to live and grow in a rural area.
Why they chose this property
We love being outside and this property allows us to share what we love with so many.
What makes this property unique
Being in the country is great and having access to over a hundred acres is amazing. Rent the golf cart or hike a long the trails. Bring fishing poles and enjoy fishing out of one of the ponds on the property. Or just relax in the hot tub and watch the wildlife all around.
