Located on the unspoiled Blue Hill Peninsula, close to Deer Isle, Stonington, and Castine, and an hour's drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Designed by an internationally recognized architect, with interiors by Katch ID, this jewel of a cottage has in-floor heating, a fully equipped modern kitchen, two full baths, one with a steam shower, a native-species garden, a large book collection, and beauty, warmth, and privacy. Three mahogany decks, one for lounging by the garden, one for privacy off the bedroom, and one to appreciate the sunset view west toward the Camden Hills or to sit by the outdoor gas fireplace that's operated with a simple switch, make this 2,000 square foot home seem larger than it looks.

Guests have access to the entire cottage without restriction, as well as the surrounding 12 acres of woods and blueberry fields.

Caterpillar Hill was named by Downeast Magazine as one of the 10 best views in Maine. Nearby are hiking trails, antiques and artists' studios, lake and ocean beaches, charming fishing towns, fresh lobster, boat rides, day-trips to Acadia, Bar Harbor, and Isle au Haut, cultural events in Blue Hill and Stonington, farmers' markets, galleries, and much more.

Car recommended. One-hour drive from the Bangor International Airport.

Great for relaxing, reading, getting away from it all.

Winter Vacation

We stayed here for a second time after visiting in this summer. The house is great for a winter visit, and the area is beautiful in the winter. We hope to come back. Thank you Ann!

A special place

We loved our stay at Ann's beautiful guest house. For this long time Brooksville summer person (me), its expansive location on the edge of blueberry barrens with a big view is unusual and uplifting. The house is unique... beautifully designed, luxurious, full of care and whimsy. The upstairs deck with comfortable furniture and a fireplace was the perfect place to read, nap or visit with a friend. Owner Ann was delightful, welcoming and helpful during our stay. We hope to return!

Perfect relaxation

This beautiful home is a perfect retreat. It is beautifully designed; excellent cook’s kitchen, two decks, luxurious bath. Blueberries to pick and eat. Nearby farm-to-table restaurants and farm stands to inspire cooking in. Our second stay, and we will return.

Wonderful wedding weekend!

My husband and I were invited to a wedding to be held on Little Deer Island, and I contacted Ann, the host, to see if this property would be convenient to that location. From the get-go, she was terrific, providing consistently prompt, helpful, humorous, insightful communications. Check in was a breeze, the house manual was thorough and well written. The house is BEAUTIFUL! It has been/is impeccably designed, decorated, appointed and maintained. I can honestly say it is one of the top 3 houses we have ever rented in all our myriad travels. We fell in love with the area and hope to get back there sometime soon-and will definitely rent this property again!

Oasis in the Maine woods

We really enjoyed our stay at this elegant contemporary cottage. The house is beautifully designed and furnished, with more than ample space for two guests, both inside and on the various patios and verandas. There are views of the woods from every vantage point, adding to the home's tranquil vibe. Ann was a great host, providing all the amenities for a relaxing stay. The home is both private and very conveniently located to all that the area has to offer.

Location, seclusion, design

This is a fantastic home. The location — privacy, wild blueberries, locally sourced produce, Maine coast — is great, but the home itself is beyond description. It is beautifully crafted and impeccably appointed. The logistics were seamless. An incredible place.

Living and running a business in New York City, I could not survive without regular trips to Maine for peace and sanity! My three daughters, now in their 30s, have been going to Maine every year since they were babies and are thrilled to share the beauty of our property with visitors. We hope you'll come to love what we cherish about the Blue Hill peninsula and return again and again.

Why they chose this property

After many years vacationing at nearby Oakland House, we knew we wanted something of our own. And we knew we wanted the view from Caterpillar Hill. That fall, we saw an ad in Downeast advertising 12-acre lots for sale. That was all we needed, and we built the main house on Robert Knight's architectural plans the next year. A few years later, we built the cottage with the same architect and builder. Bob has retired, but you can read his thoughts about the house here: https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/edgy-guest-house-pj-vj~22786

What makes this property unique

With twelve acres of woods and blueberry fields surrounding the cottage, you'll have total privacy during your stay while you relax and connect with nature in luxurious comfort. If you're in need of a break from the hustle and bustle of your busy lives, this house, and the land around it, will provide exactly the tonic you need.
