Sodulsholt is a working horse training and conditioning farm on the Snaefellsnes peninsula that includes over 70 horses, horse stables, and a first class indoor riding facility on more than 1300 hectares (3,200 acres). We are located 2 hours from Keflavik International Airport and approximately 40 minutes northwest of the town of Borgarnes.

Our accommodations include cottages that sleep 4 people comfortably. Cottage includes Wifi (for email, internet browsing), a double mattress, 2 twin beds, full kitchen (including microwave, toaster, coffee machine, refrigerator), sitting area, bathroom with shower, and outside seating area. Fresh linens are provided. Do you prefer to grill? A "Weber" grill is available for your use.

Sodulsholt serves as a central location to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, including the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, a nearby geothermal pool, Gullborgarhraun Lava field (formed by the Gullborg volcano 7000 to 9000 years ago and referenced in the Icelandic Sagas), the village of Stykkisholmur, Arnarstapi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.

Foal season typically runs from May through September when we welcome additional foals into the Sodulsholt family. June features our sleppitur event when the horses are let out for the summer.

Experienced horsemen could reserve a horse for riding around the area including to the nearby beaches (extra fee). Our property also includes a river where you can test your skills at catching fresh Icelandic salmon (extra fee, summer only, bring your own sanitized gear). Horse riding is not possible between November 1 and March 1.

Our Snaefellsnes location is ideal for observing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) as they can be seen from October through March.

Sodulsholt is located approximately 13 km (8 miles) from the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, 50 km (31 miles) from the town of Borgarnes, 45 km (28 miles) from the historic town of Stykkisholmur, 69 km (43 miles) from Arnarstappi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.

Amazing Northern Lights Horse Farm Cabin

We loved our stay here. The cottage is one of a few located on a large horse farm near the Snaefellsnes peninsula. We were able to see the Northern lights from indoors due to large windows. We were also able to arrange horse ride through the property very easily. Beautiful view of the mountains. Close to food and attractions but feels very secluded.

Delightful Stay at our "Horse Home"

Our stay at Sodulsholt was amazing! Northern lights and horses out front the first night and morning, ease in seeing the peninsula full day, and outings to the Golden Circle and then retiring off of the beaten path. Beautiful views and all we needed for comfort. We can't wait to return and cannot recommend to others more!

Perfect cottage

The cottage was perfect for us. It is in the great location for exploring the Snaefellsnes. Good restaurant nearby and a comfortable place to come home to after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. I appreciated the laundry facilities.

Fazit: Volle 5*

Wonderful cottage fully equipped, great location

Wonderful cottage, clean, comfortable beds, equipped with anything you might need. Warm and wind proof. Beautiful property and felt secluded without being far off roads. Great location for exploring Snaefelles peninsula easily in 1-2 days. Some great, small restaurants nearby as well! Appreciated all the communication and suggestions for shopping before arrival. Great place, would love to stay again in summer.

Exactly as advertised

We had a great stay. Opportunities to see the Northern Lights and horses up close. The property was clean with more than enough room for our party of four. Windows everywhere so you can enjoy the surroundings. One warning - there is a tunnel getting there from Reykjavík where you have to pay a toll on line. No signs explaining that so beware.

A stay in Iceland

The cottage, with large picture windows is in a perfect location for watching the Northern Lights. We lucked out and we’re able to see them. The outside doors are well insulated but could be a challenge to open, close and lock.

Entschleunigung PUR ...

Peaceful retreat

Spent 2 nights here during our visit from the United States. Location is quiet and peaceful with beautiful horses outside your front door. The kitchen is well-appointed with dishwasher, microwave, stove/oven, fridge and honestly everything else you need. My 8 year-old son loved the loft sleeping area and flying his kite in the small yard adjacent to the cottage. Location is a good entry point for the peninsula and we explored the area during an afternoon drive. It was easy to get to from Reykjavík and to continue our trip to the Golden Circle area. The scenery was stunning and I found myself gazing out of every window in the morning. Would definitely recommend for any type of traveler, but especially families seeking a comfortable, home-like stay. Hope to come back again!

Great location for exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula!

Well stocked, immaculate and views for days! The cottages overlook so much and are well spaced so you're not on top of your neighbors. This was our starting point upon arrival in to Iceland for an 8 day trip. I would highly recommend staying here as it was an easy drive from KEF airport. Stopping at the Bonus grocery store was easy and along the way (about 30 min out from the cottages). There's everything you could need in terms of pots, pans and utensils to prepare a hearty meal in the kitchen. We did not have the luxury of a Northern Lights viewing while staying due to cloud cover, but it certainly had no impact on our stay!

My perfect Icelandic getaway!

The HORSES!!!! Made my trip. I booked here because of them. They roam around a very large property, so you won’t always see them. When I did, it was a dream! The cottage itself was so cozy with full kitchen & other convenient accommodations. Everything was so clean & new. Almost like I was the first to stay there. Friends had the cottage next door. It was a lot of fun in a fairly remote location. Nice restaurant 15 minutes down the road. Otherwise, bring groceries & use the kitchen. I made friends with the owner’s dog, he was the sweetest & escorted me around the property!😂🐾 I would love to stay here again.

Gorgeous quiet property on Snæfellsnes Penninsula

These cabins are on a working pony farm and are just about perfect. The view in front is rolling towards the sea and behind is gorgeous snow capped mountains. The cabins are well equipped and quite comfortable. Would definitely stay here again!

Heaven in the Western Iceland!

AMAZING sunrises, sunsets, long range views and an awesome display of the Northern Lights on October 10 around 9-10 pm. Thank you, Oli! Enjoyed visiting ALL the spots the host recommended in their PDF file. Everything was close and easy to get to. The house was perfect and had everything you needed. Staff friendly, communications were detailed and quick. Highly recommend. We will be coming back soon! THANK YOU!

Perfect small house on a horse farm!

My teenager said it best: “ it’s like IKEA got together with a high- end homebuilder and built a house”. The house is small but perfectly planned and in pristine shape. Squeaky clean, too.. We had everything we needed. Laundry is in the barn. Wifi works great, though the property is really out in the country. Gotta plan your trip to the grocery store! The barn staff were super nice and agreed to take us on a horse ride (extra $70 per person). It was so cool to interact with and ride on Icelandic horses. A highlight of our trip.

So Unique

Loved our stay in Western Iceland! Our cottage was ready when we arrived after a long flight. We had lovey meals in the cottage which had a great kitchen. The weather was very cold and windy. The cottage was warm and sturdy. We could hear the wind but the cottage did not shake or have air leaks. We were so cozy! It was too cloudy to see the Northern Lights on our 2 night stay but we enjoyed driving around the area and seeing the sights. A few horses were out but most were in the barn. We were greeted by two friendly dogs. One placed a stone by the door! It must have been a welcome rock! The setting was so unique with snow, mountains, horses and clean fresh air!

Why they chose this property

This large property (over 1300 hectares or 3,200 acres) has it all! The view of the mountains, ocean, and free grazing horses are spectacular. We are conveniently located with easy access to the many sights that Snaefellsnes peninsula has to offer and more. The cottages were built in September 2015. I invite you to come for a visit and to take in the beauty of the area.

The property includes a private river where guests may fish for salmon (extra fee).

What makes this property unique

The view, the area, new cottages, and easy access to various sights in the area make this a unique, quiet, and yet central location.
