He shut heat, water and all the power off on us when other houses around us had power. All doors were locked so we had no where to stay while all our phones were dead with no lights. AWFUL STAY

Terrible place...
I rarely write negative reviews, but just booked a rather expensive place in which we couldn't stay (left after 20 minutes...). There were a number of issues with the property:
1. Cleanliness. The place was not well-cleaned before our arrival.
2. Smell. There is VERY STRONG ODOR to the place, which the strange air freshener used by the owner only made worse.
3. Upkeep. The place is in some disrepair--peeling paint, shoddy carpeting, loose floorboards...
4. Staircase. The abnormally narrow treads of the staircase to the second floor (in severe violation of the building codes), made even narrower by a thick carpet, are dangerous and very uncomfortable. We are younger and fit--not sure how others manage it.
5. Location. The house is closely hemmed in on both sides and surrounded by junk-strewn houses in disrepair.
6. The river. The Essex river was not even a small creek--no possibility for kayaking or fishing.
7. The ad claimed four bedrooms, but only three were available (not a major point).
In short, by far the worse VRBO experience, ever...
The pictures do not do it justice, the inside is very nice and clean. Only issue we had was the water suddenly shut off on our last day and we could not get in contact with the owner, but besides that great value for the price.
Nice home on the river, however could have been cleaner. Needed a good vacuum and wipe down of surfaces, and smelled a little like wet dog. Other than that, it was a great place to get away for a night and the owner was very responsive.
The house was in a nice location. We had plenty of space. It could’ve been a little bit more cleaner . We were covered with dog hair when we sat on the couch or walked across the rug. There were fur balls everywhere. It also smelt like wet dog in the living room. The pillows in the fold out couch had hair on them and some of the sheets were soiled. Overall we had a nice time it just could’ve been cleaner.
