The home is very small, but had everything we needed for a fun visit…including our dogs. It is tucked away, but located in the middle of everything. We walked everywherei
The first issue was the check-in process. Supposedly we were supposed to receive check-in information automatically, but we did not. I messaged the host the day before check-in and didn't hear anything back. I then called the contact number, he answered right away and gave us the info over the phone. He was polite and didn't make me feel as though we were bothering him. When we arrived the house was easy to find and had plenty of parking. The house landscaping and inside the house was a little misrepresented by the pictures in the ad. I know it said newly renovated, but it appeared to have been done some time ago. We are Landlord/Property Managers so we understand the wear and tear on places, but you should update the listing with appropriate pictures. Other than these two things which were somewhat easy to overlook because of the location and being pet friendly we would definitely stay here again. The best coffee shop was right next door, not the one across the street. If you are in decent shape everything is in walking distance too. Maybe someday we'll be back.

Good area, needs cleaning
We booked our stay somewhat last minute (a couple of days before check in) and stayed for only one night, so we were glad Rodney was able to welcome us. Communication was fine, we received kind messages indicating the necessary information in a somewhat timely manner.
The cottage had some sanitation and comfort issues : the floor was very dirty, I had to wear socks to get around without turning my feet brown from the floor. There were signs of mold in the floor of the bathroom and the handle to the shower was broken though the shower still functioned fine. We were only give the very end of one roll of toilet paper… and the sheets were polyester not cotton which made them feel dirty and quite uncomfortable. The pull out couch was also uncomfortable in that the metal bars could be felt while sleeping and gave my partner a sore bac. For $300 for one night, we were a bit disappointed with our stay, though the location was WONDERFUL and we were able to see a whole herd of wild ponies while exploring the next day! Thank you Rodney for your quick availability, we hope you find our review constructive and that you receive our gratitude nonetheless.
My daughter and I enjoyed our mini vacation. We really only slept at the cottage and felt it adequately met our needs. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it was cozy.
We stayed here with our husky for 3 nights and it worked out nice for us. It was in a convenient location that allowed us to walk to most things and only about 10 minute drive to the beach. It had everything we needed during our stay. This was an affordable pet friendly option for us.
My husband and I found the cottage to have everything we needed for 3 nights. The location is excellent! We’d happily return.

Great but not great
The cottage was cute, clean, and comfortable. I would have written a very positive review if for the sense of arrival. I did not receive the information for the key. I contacted the host, but he never replied. I contacted Vrbo, and they tried as well without success. It is now 10 pm, pitch dark, and I am alone in front of the house. Thank god the neighbors came out, and after explaining my situation, they told me that the host left the cottage open with the keys inside. Also, no number to indicate the right cottage. A very stressful situation that could have been avoided.
Another great stay at the cottage! A nice place to stay on the island for a few days when it’s just my pup and I; the size and layout absolutely perfect. And the host is top notch! Can’t wait to come back.
This little place was right for our needs. The location was perfect, even when it was close to Main Street, it was quiet at night time - being a few steps distance from the Amarin bakery was a plus.
The place was a described (Rodney needs to update his pictures), it has a little overhang roof to protect against the rain, also some other items are not showed in the pictures. Bathroom was decently clean and bed sheets were cleaned and mattresses comfortable. We didn't used the extra sofa pull off bed but as a sofa with a few twigs was comfortable bed for our child to sleep. Plenty towels, dishes, etc.
As a host myself I feel a bit annoyed with the manners as guests - if you splatter something with food or a drink - clean it! it is what you/we do in home, right? I was surprised to see those beautiful and colorful table-mats smeared with coffee or sauce - I left them clean because I could put my plate on them as they were found.
Communication is a bit tricky but it is easy to reach Rodney by text.
Overall the place is a "little gem" to stay in - has all you need for a few nights to stay. Our crew including our four legs enjoyed it - we might come back.
Rodney - thanks for having us and I hope all gets better with your cleaning crew.

Didn't get to stay there!
Sorry, I didn't want to choose stars for all of the rating points since we didn't experience them, but was required to.
I'm afraid I found the vrbo communication system sorely lacking. I never received anything from vrbo about my requested stay for 2 nights in the days after I submitted it, other than a receipt for travel insurance. My husband and I set off for the destination erroneously thinking we had a reservation. As he drove, I checked for further info and found we didn't have one. I tried a number of things to reach out, one of which was to submit another reservation request hoping it would trigger some kind of response. I was only able to request a stay the following night and when we arrived at the destination, we took a room at a hotel: for two nights since the rate was much lower. I tried chatting with vrbo that night to ask that they block or cancel the new reservation. They could not. They did give me two phone numbers from the host. As it was late, I asked if either was a cell, could I text. They said to go ahead. I texted both numbers to ask the host to please not approve the reservation request for the following night. Sometime the next day, I checked the vrbo app (which I had finally discovered), only to find that the reservation had been approved and accepted. I later tried to call the host who did not respond. I would still like to speak with him to see if we can resolve this, even though it is 10 days later.
We only stayed here one night for a quick weekend trip, but this is a great little place. Communication with the owner prior to the trip was great. The location on the island is unbeatable, easily walkable to almost everywhere. The cottage is well kept, clean, neat and organized, not much larger than your average hotel room, but has all the amenities any reasonable person/family needs. Pets being allowed was a gigantic plus for us, as we travel with our chihuahua as much as possible. Check in and out were extremely easy and painless. We enjoyed it very much, even if for such a short stay. Our only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer this trip. We'll hopefully remedy that next time! It was a great experience start to finish!
Really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable little cottage. It had everything we needed during our time on the Island. We brought our dog along who seemed to feel right at home. Highly recommended!

Nice location, owner not responsive, smelled bad
The good: The location was wonderful, within walking distance to everything and within biking distance to the beach. The main bed was very comfortable and the house had all the needed amenities.
Things to be aware of:
-Owner was non-responsive. We hadn't heard from them by the day of our trip so we messaged them, asking how to get in. We asked for a message or a phone call. 6 hours later, we were there and still hadn't heard back. Luckily the door was unlocked and we were able to get in. We didn't hear back for three days (a half hour before we checked out). Owner said they tried to contact us but we had no missed calls or messages that came through late.
-The place smelled musty/moldy, especially the bathroom.I've washed all clothing and bedding twice now and the smell is almost gone.
-The shower is tiny. They tell you that, but if you're short (I'm 5'1), the water will be spraying you in the face the entire time with no way to escape it. If you're a larger person, you'll have trouble too.
-There's a creepy hole cut out of the bathroom ceiling.
-The pull out bed, like most pull out beds, is lumpy, creaky, and uncomfortable. Just something to be aware of. The bedding (in the wardrobe) had black specks all over it and didn't appear clean so we didn't feel comfortable using it
-Floor felt grimy, like it hadn't actually been washed in a long time. I wiped it and the rags came back filthy.
Overall we had a good trip, but wouldn't stay here again.
This place is a cozy one room cottage that is situated behind the main house. It offers the simplicity of one bed, one sofa, one bathroom (with shower stall) and a small kitchenette with a dining table. It's located conveniently just off Maddox and Main, which is literally as soon as you get off the bridge to Chincoteague Island. It's perfect for those who only need a small space and don't want to share a large B&B style house with other guests. And the biggest bonus is the coffee and pastry shop ("Amarin") directly next door. That place has amazing croissants, pastries and coffee. Being able to walk next door to get breakfast there every day is priceless.
I was considering giving 4 out of 5 stars for one reason: on our last day of our 3-day stay the water was shut off. I called the owner and he sincerely apologized and explained that there was a plumbing problem at the main house which resulted in the water to both the main house and cottage being shut off temporarily for repairs. Now some people will cry and claim they've suffered immeasurable mental anguish and want to be compensated millions of dollars for their pain and suffering, and then leave a one star review. But the reality is stuff like this happens. It's even happened in our own house, so we get it. The owner Rodney addressed the issue and within 15 minutes of my call to him we had water again. I'd say that's excellent customer service and deserves 5 stars. We would stay here again.
