We had an amazing time! The views from just about every room of the well appointed and comfortable home are nothing short of spectacular. The soft breeze that blows in off the water smells wonderful, the birds are incredible, I’ve never seen so many snowy egrets!!!
And Susan and Charlie couldn’t have been more gracious and accommodating. They are fantastic hosts. We will definitely be back!
All three generations of us loved it. Beautiful property surrounded by water, nature at its best, lots to do (kayaking, pickleball, …), very caring and helpful host couple. We will be back next year for sure.
The house was very comfortable for our group of 6, with activities for everyone at the house (kayaking, walking and nature watching, tennis/pickleball, movies, cooking, etc.) and in the area (beach, shops, the whaling museum was great). Hosts very friendly and available to answer questions and give advice. Highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at this peaceful and lovely home on the Little River. The home is very nice and has everything one needs. The views are so tranquil and stunning. We loved the back deck! Susan and Charlie are great people and make sure that we had an enjoyable stay. A perfect retreat on the Southcoast!
Everyone in our group agreed this is a lovely place to stay on a family vacation. Our extended family was scattered in four locations in Dartmouth - three with views of ocean - but everyone was charmed by this salt marsh site - the serenity, the wildlife, the view.
Regrettably we did not have time to use the kayaks. I have always wanted to kayak there and silently observe all the animals and soak up the ambiance - wish my family had a chance to do that but our days were too busy. Next time we will block off time to enjoy the house and surroundings!
This property was everything we hoped for! The house is beautiful. The hosts are so friendly and helpful. But the real reason for going is the back yard and deck with the incredible water view and dock. The huge deck is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, including stunning sunsets. There are so many interesting birds and other animals to see. You can kayak or canoe with all the provided gear. There are beaches nearby, plus trails, shops, restaurants...everything. I highly recommend visiting Dartmouth!
Our family was gathering in Dartmouth for a wedding (no children) and this home was a perfect spot to do so. The outdoor spaces and views are exceptional. Even though the land is shared by the hosts, it's very private. The bedrooms are comfortable. The house have everything you could need, we appreciated the ratio of bathrooms to guests. Our hosts were lovely and very responsive. My husband and I took the kayaks out to the sandbar at the mouth of the river and loved exploring the estuary this way. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The views from the deck are terrific--peaceful, beautiful, and natural, free of man-made distractions. Being able to kayak on Little River is wonderful. The house easily accommodated two couples and one toddler, although the second bedroom for adults is MUCH less spacious than the master bedroom. The hosts are attentive but not intrusive.
If you are looking for a very quite place to stay and be on the water, this is the place. Beautiful salt marsh, full of wildlife and next to the ocean. Sue and Charlie are very attentive to the needs of their guests. They went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. All the amenities of home. We had a great time. Will be coming back someday.
This home is in a beautiful location, surrounded by a salt marsh that is rich with bird life! We loved watching the great blue herons, egrets, and osprey, and getting out in the canoes and kayaks.
This house is in a beautiful spot with direct access to kayaking on an estuary that leads up river or into the sea. The owners live next door and couldn't be nicer or more accommodating.
Wonderful stay in this beautiful setting. Susan was really great and helpful while we were there. Had everything we needed and felt very comfortable. Can't wait to return!
We had a wonderful weeklong stay at Susan and Charlie's house in South Dartmouth.
Check in was easy as they live in the house next door. The hosts are super friendly and immediately took care of a couple of simple issues when they came up.
The house is located on a small peninsula on the Little River. Two kayaks and two canoes were available for our use and we paddled daily to see the numerous birds (ospreys, egrets, herons among others). We also paddled out at low tide to the sand bar at the mouth of the Slocums River.
The house was very clean and comfortable and as described in the listing. We really enjoyed the peaceful week on the South Coast.
This house is in an unbelievable spot, directly on an estuary leading to the sea. We kayaked almost every day, up the Little River, or out to an extensive sandbar in the ocean where we could pull up our kayaks, walk and swim. Susan and Charlie are next door. They are kind and very responsive when questions arise. But they were also very sensitive to privacy. We loved our stay.
We felt like we at our own private nature reserve. Morning kayak outings, birds galore, a dock to fish from, and spectacular sunsets. Indoors, there are so many windows that you never feel far from the outdoors. The house was roomy and comfortable and clean. Susan was friendly, helpful, responsive, and offered suggestions for everything we needed, from beach-going to grocery-shopping. A wonderful stay at a fantastic spot.
The setting is magical - three decks to accommodate any time of day and sun angle, with views of the water from all three! The hosts couldn't be more generous and helpful. House was very comfortable. All positive!!
Lovely property in an exceptional location! We had a terrific visit, comfortable beautiful. The house is lovely the location is over the top. Great home base for all the South Coast has to offer if you can ever leave this beautiful property.
Enjoyed hiking, swimming off the dock and especially kayaking.
THE BEST! We will be back!
Susan and Charles were so very helpful with the whole vacation. From helping us book the dates to always being around asking how we were. They are some of the nicest and most hospitable people we have ever met. All of this is a plus, since the house is on a beautiful piece of property that has water all around it. Kayaking and canoeing in the marsh/ estuary was super relaxing and beautiful. The house is a short ride away from the small town and local beaches and boat ramp. They were nice enough to let us bring our boat along so we could launch it at the local ramp which was very simple and inexpensive. Being on Buzzards Bay we were able to do a short ride day trip to Cuttyhunk on the first day and then Menemsha on Martha's Vineyard the second. After the long days we were able to come back to the house and relax on one of the 3 decks and grill up dinner on the brand new grill. It was one of the best long weekends we have ever had, and my family and I are looking forward to coming back next year for a longer stay and see Susan and Charles again. If I could I would give this place 6 or even 7 stars out of 5.
This lovely home is surrounded by natural beauty. The healthy environment teems with osprey, blue herons and especially snowy egrets. The body of water surrounding the peninsula is literally square miles of shallow estuary, teeming with fish to feed the birds. My take away memory is just sitting and staring a good half mile across the water and salt marsh and hearing nothing but the setting sun. The hosts are terrific and the property is nothing short of amazing. Great Portuguese and seafood to be had within 20 - 30 min.
If anything the description slightly undersells this lovely, stylish retreat on the Little River. Surrounded on three sides by water, the modern, spacious house has wonderful views from early morning to sunset with egrets, eagles and herons on display. We used the three kayaks almost everyday. We also visited a nearby beach and nature trails but mainly we enjoyed the house.
The three bedrooms accomodated six comfortably. There is AC is the air gets too sticky, which was a welcome option one night. The kitchen is well-equipped and the new gas grill served up a big dinner. Charley and Susan are generous and welcoming, making sure even the smallest details were taken care of. The rate was at the high end of our budget but for the money, it was well worth it. Highly recommended.
