Lazy on the Lake was just what my husband and I needed to escape our busy lives for a few days - beautiful setting - relaxing - well-equipped cabin - comfortable bed - humorous and fun decorations - enjoyed a canoe ride around the lake - and the cabin and grounds were just as pictured in the listing.
Every house has pluses and minuses. The pluses are the location, the kayaks, the easy check in, and you can tell that when he built the cabin a lot of thought and care went into it. We were surprised how much we loved a local diner called Yankee Boy, highly recommend. The guest book is thoughtful and professional. The lake is beautiful with clear water and the location is green and close to Traverse City. The minuses are that the shower needs repairs. The caulk is in rough shape and there are large stains and it doesn't work well. Another area of improvement is more information about the water. As I noticed in previous reviews, the water has a bad smell. I assumed it was well water when I read the reviews, which I grew up with and am comfortable with, but when we got there is was not a well water smell. Honestly it smells like dirty diapers. It does appear to be well water but I don't think that's the cause. Perhaps it is a regional smell? I think a page in the guest book explaining the smell would help. We didn't dare drink it and I'll pretty much drink any water. Also, this comfortably fits four people. The futon was covered in food crumbs and very uncomfortable. The air mattress deflates. The whole house could use a deep clean...lots of dust and cobwebs. That sounds bad, but again, it is a lovely area and a lovely cabin. I wouldn't skip it because a few small things would make it great.
The way the garage doors open up the kitchen to the patio is so cool. We really enjoyed our time there. Bryan (the neighborhood rooster) was a nice added bonus!
We were celebrating my parents both turning 80 years old with my brother and sister. It was very relaxing and right on the water. My father had a grin from ear to ear as he went fishing almost every day and was very happy with the quality of fish he caught. We had everything we needed at the house including plenty of bath towels and toiletries. The kitchen had all the place settings, pots and pans as well. Complete with two tv's and wifi. The only bathroom was upstairs which was somewhat of a challenge for my elderly parents but they managed just fine.
Wonderful property! The king bed in the primary bedroom was very comfortable and the sheets were very soft and my 8 yo loved the futon on the main floor. There is lots to do in the area or you could easily chill there. I’m looking forward to a longer stay next time.
Awesome property and helpful owner. The unique build allows for open air relaxation on the ground floor and the kitchen is better than you’ll find at most similar rentals. The lake is full of pan fish ideal for young kids or grandkids but still great for anyone who wants a weekend fish fry.
We enjoyed our stay. An updated bathroom(shower) or an additional bathroom would have been more ideal, as we had a big group staying, however it didn’t take away from our stay. We had a wonderful time!
This property is a converted garage. It is not insulated. It also was minimally cleaned. Found numerous dusty areas. Also tried to call the manager regarding Roku and internet problems and left messages. It took a long time for a return call or message.
This is by far the best one we have stayed at! The owners were on point with communication and everything was as lifted in the description and what you saw is what you get . It was another place for us to make those family moments I'm such a beautiful place.. we loved how the kitchen/dining room and livingroom were all combined . Awesome choice! Everything you could ever need was there from kitchen utensils to games pens to much to name .. but it was as if you were HOME!!! . THANK YOU BOTH
Beautiful area, very quiet and peaceful. The house was perfect! It had everything we needed for us to cook and relax and for our 18 month old to play and sleep. Amazing heated floors made this snowy getaway absolutely wonderful! Definitely look forward to going again.
Condo was great! Would definitely return. Had all the essentials & owner was always very quick to respond. Assuming it was well water, had a bit of a smell at times. Otherwise no complaints. Check in/out process was a breese. None of us wanted to leave!
This was my second stay at the cabin. The heated floors were very cozy. I came in and the cabin’s temperature was perfect. It felt like coming home. The Christmas decorations were a nice touch.
There is a camera on the main floor of the cabin. There was nothing about a camera in the listing. I didn’t like that lack of privacy. It is difficult to set the temperature in the shower. Trying to figure out the heat in the house was difficult. We had to call the owner to figure it out. The owners are very responsive and nice. The house could use a new set of cookware and a cutting board. Overall, a nice place to stay. I would stay there again.
We really enjoyed this lake cabin. We had the garage door open for most of the time and it made it feel like being outside. Perch Lake was a nice quiet lake to canoe and kayak on. We liked swimming at the beach also. The location was good for us. We visited Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Old Mission Lighthouse, and Torch Lake. Driveway was large enough to store our boat. Boating on Torch Lake was awesome. Overall it was a good little cabin.

About the host

I grew up in the Fife Lake area. I built this home in 2010 to be a man cave for my son and I. In 2013 I met my future wife. Now we live outside the area and enjoy the cabin on weekends and holidays. Hopefully you enjoy our cabin as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
For me this will always mean home. My family still lives in the area so when we are up it has become a gathering place for friends and family. I hope that my children and grandchildren will enjoy this place for many years.
What makes this property unique
I enjoy waking up before everyone else. You can take a cup of coffee down to the lake and sit on the dock. Surrounded by birds, fish in plain sight swimming under the dock, the morning mist slowly lifting off the water. You will find a little piece of heaven here, with a level of tranquility that you will find in few places. Then when everyone is up you can open all the doors and enjoy the feeling of the outdoors while you are relaxing inside. This cabin has some unique features that make the level of relaxation something to be remembered.
