About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Great stay

Listing is accurate. Cabin was difficult to locate at night, but the off-hours staff was very helpful and drove out to show us where to go. Good home base for exploring Yosemite, about an hour drive from the valley. Space was sufficient for family of six.

Loved our stay!

We had a great time! Loved the cabin, loved staying in the national park for convenience and had a great experience overall with our trip. Redwoods staff was friendly and helpful. Only surprise was that the cabin was not as secluded as it appeared. Several other private cabins around, but ended up being a very peaceful and nice area to stay.

Little cabin the the big woods

This cabin is well equipped for family use. The only drawbacks (as advertised) there is only one bathroom. Not a lot of mirrors hanging about for “getting ready” outside of bath. Would have given 5 stars for cleanliness, however, tons of spiderwebs where walls meet ceiling. Grab an extension rod and give it a sweep? Antique stove was tricky but functional. Loved the swing bridge swim at end of street. a pilot?

Good location and decent place to stay

We had a great stay at Wawona during the Memorial Day long weekend. The location is good, refreshing and close enough to the Yosemite valley. However, the place didn't have enough paper towels, salt and pepper, shampoo and bathroom essentials. So you will have to bring everything with yourself or you can buy it in the Yosemite super market. Communication with the property manager was a little bit hard and they were slow in responding to the messages. Overall, it was a great stay.

Chalet cozy

Great chalet in the mountains of yosemite! Kids loved the wood stove and the loft. Laundry was great. Checkin was delayed due to staffing issues, but they took care of us in the end. Vintage stove and sink bring challenges if not used to operating, but the charm is wonderful and we were able to cook all our meals. Definitely would stay again! Super cozy feels!

Sweet Spot for a Yosemite Adventure

This cabin is perfect for our family. Our kids loved the loft and the open living, dining, and kitchen area makes for great fellowship beginning and ending the day. The cabin has plenary of space and the essentials for a great stay inside the park. And the Pine Tree Market is a great place to stop for your perishable food. We loved our stay and hope we get to comeback someday!

Yosemite trip

We enjoyed staying in the A-frame cabin with loft and it was a lovely scenic drive into the valley. Downstairs beds were very comfortable. Kitchen living area suited a family very well. Appreciated being able to do laundry and use the grill. Had some difficulty with using older gas stove.

Excellent choice for winter break

It was awesome overall :) One thing is considered. If you arrive at dark night, you can't see the friendly sign for the cabin, you may face difficulty in finding the location right away.

Yosemite Vacation

We stayed here for the location and loved the cabin! It was very modern feeling on the inside and although the neighbors were close, it still felt secluded. It was a great stay and close to Yosemite.

Good location and property

Good property that is an excellent location. The equipment is a little dated and there was a lack of condiments. The bedrooms are small but comfortable for a couple. Overall good stay with amazing location.

Fantastic cabin!

The house is in a beautiful, albeit slightly difficult to find if you arrive at night, location. It is well maintained and has a great wood burning stove that makes the living room extra cozy!

Cabin in the woods

Lovely place, quiet and felt a bit remote- especially because the hotel was closed. Glad we went shopping before we arrived as little was available at the store which closed early. Bring paper towels and all food except salt and pepper because you will need to prepare your meals due to limited options in the park due to COVID. Be sure to GPS your directions to both the check-in location as well as the cabin as service was nonexistent in the park ( but great WIFI at the cabin). Try to get in before night as the first time is tricky. We are very glad we stayed in the park and avoided the crowds by going in May and getting into the park in the early evening.

Overall, the property is not bad. It can sleep up to 10 people, we only had 4. 1 small crowded bathroom only, so more than 4 people could be a problem. Lights were really dimmed making it difficult to cook and eat after sunset. Only 1 roll of toilet paper was provided for 4 days, 4 people. No paper towel was provided. No dishwasher. There was a spot, near the stove and dish shelves, when walking over makes rattling sound waking people up in the morning. No outside trash cans were available, we had to drive about 1/4 mile to dump trash.

Beautiful house

The house was really beautiful, everything we needed was there. The only issue was the bathroom; the light was burned out and the shower curtain had seen better days. Other than that, everything was wonderful, and we'd definitely stay here again!

Winter Wonderland!

I stayed over Thanksgiving break my wife, two daughters and our pug, and we absolutely loved the cabin and were sad to leave. The wood stove and well stocked wood pile kept us toasty and warm. We had everything we needed to prepare and present our Thanksgiving feast. We were conveniently located near the general store, but secluded enough to have plenty of privacy. Perhaps our favorite feature of this cabin was its proximity to the swinging bridge and the surrounding falls. It was a wonderful walk to this delightful oasis in the middle of the forest with wonderful creeks and rock formations. Perfect for kids and a perfect antidote to the crowded spectacle of the valley. On the last day, it snowed 13 inches and we woke up to an amazing sight: Yosemite blanketed in soft fluffy snow! Our girls (who had never seen snow) went absolutely bonkers, made a snow man and had an epic snowball fight! It was deeply fulfilling trip made even more wonderful by the coziness and hominess of this cabin. Thank you so much!

A beautiful getaway

Clean, bright, away from the big tourist streams during summer. It is a good 30-45 min drive to Yosemite valley and Glacier point but a lot of great things do in Wawona. Have a bath in the little river upstream (5 min by car), visit the blacksmith, go on a horse ride or do some nice hikes such as Chilnualna falls. Wawona hotel is a nice place for a lunch. Parts of the movie "36 hours" were filmed there. Kind of cool to watch the movie before or while you're there. Kids are 8 and 10 and loved it.

The perfect cabin

Bright and airy, spotless, quiet, with a well-equipped kitchen and nice sleeping spaces (bedrooms and loft). It's perfect for Yosemite hiking and rock climbing along the Merced and a nice distance from the noise of the Yosemite Valley. Perfect for families or couples traveling together. We loved it. Highly recommend it.

Beautiful spot with everything!

Everything necessary to make a very comfortable stay, including a well-stocked kitchen, firewood, linens. Perfect for a relaxing get away to a beautiful place! Plenty of elbow room to not feel as if you're on top of your neighbors. Nice escape to see deer in the yard but not feel too far away from the store, restaurant, etc.

Great Weekend Getaway

The cabin was rustic but immaculate and well supplied. The A-frame style was attractive yet comfortable, cozy and warm. We were surrounded by equally attractive homes which made for secure surroundings in a naturally beautiful setting. The only problem was the lack of WiFi (apparently caused by the owner's failure to pay the monthly bill) which seriously interfered with our business communications. (However, the management gave us a substantial refund. The stairs to the loft was too steep to be suitable for young children. Overall, the experience was great.
