About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Girls get away

Perfect location for our girls trip up to Half Dome. Check in was a breeze and everything was as listed. Gas station and general store all within 5 mins of the cabin. 50 mins from the cabin to Happy Isle trail head. Super easy drive to Mariposa Grove and the giant sequoias.

Cozy Cabin in the Woods

It was just what we expected from the description. It was clean and comfortable. Perfect place to stay while visiting Yosemite. Six adults stayed here comfortably.

Great Location but overpriced and needs updating and cleaned

Great location! House was very dated needs some updating, also cobwebs throughout the house. Need to find new cleaners. I own a janitorial company and you could tell the bare minimum was cleaned. Probably would not stay again due to uncleanliness and price. Very much overpriced.

Review of Spidlers chalet

The property was just as described- great location in park and everything you need for a stay in the park. Also, the fact that the property is in dire need of updating. I was aware of that but don’t realize just how outdated and old the property, furnishings and amenities would be It has so much potential to be a standout. I would also advise at the very least, the cobwebs could be cleared inside the house and perhaps power wash the deck and chairs outside so you can utilize the space. Overall a good stay just some suggestions. Thank you

Rustic Setting

Its a cabin/house in the woods so the furnishing are quite dated but it was clean and had everything we needed. Very quiet in the woods. Very pleasant setting.

Perfect base for Yosemite

Spindler’s Chalet was a great place to stay for our Yosemite visit. Our group had more than enough space to relax after a long day of hiking. Being inside the park was a definite plus. On our rest day, we enjoyed hiking to the falls and the swimming hole, and we visited the market. Thanks for a great stay!

Weekend with family

The cabin is very clean, the beds comfortable, and the kitchen well stocked. It is not the fanciest, most up to date place, but that wasn't what we were looking for. The two night minimum was helpful since we had time for only a short trip. We would go back.

Great location, but needs updating

The house was in a good location and very spacious. The retro feel is fun for somethings, but many areas need to be updated. Especially the bedding and kitchen ware. You will need to bring your own shampoo and soap. Small hotel size soap bars are provided.

Great cabin amongst the beautiful redwoods

We found this listing on VRBO just a few weeks before our trip and were fortunate to be able to rent it at a short notice. Our early August stay in the cabin was comfortable. The nights were very hot, but luckily, the owner had kept some fans in the closet, which helped (a couple of them were noisy - we had to choose between heat & noise). The highlights were: - Location (proximity to the Wawona Hotel and Park entrance) - Clean towels - Fully functional kitchen - Cool redwoods all around Thank you!

Nice Place

Nice open layout, great new deck, plenty of room. About 45 mins to Yosemite. Ask for more fans in the summertime.

Perfect venue for Yosemite visit

We absolutely loved the house so much we drank a toast to the owners on our second night. Being located inside Yosemite gave us the advantage of still having a nice short trail to the waterfalls for an evening stroll when we drove back from the Valley, so we could stretch our legs. The home has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable living and dining areas and a nice vibe. We had dinner at home every night. Redwoods staff are very friendly and helpful, and the little store in the complex is very well equipped for last minute needs. The only thing to be aware is that the laundry in the complex closes early at 6 pm, so you can't wash your clothes in the evening after a day of hiking.
