About this property

NEW! Cosy 1930's cottage with gorgeous gardens

Welcome to our gorgeous 1930's cottage in the pretty little town of Blackheath. The Artist's Cottage has two cosy bedrooms, a fireplace, balcony, a sprawling garden backing on to the national park and an artist studio (set up for you to use). We have a well-equipped kitchen with a huge country stove, a lovely sunroom (perfect for lazy afternoons reading in the warmth), a deep 1930's bath and we have over 200 books, games and magazines for you to read!

The space

Our cottage was built in the 1930s, with original fittings mixed with contemporary interiors. It's perfect for both summer and winter stays as the slow combustion fire and ducted heating keeps the whole house at a balmy temperature in winter, while in the summer the many outdoor and indoor areas offer shade and gorgeous views.

Both bedrooms have large walk-in wardrobes with hanging and shelf space, while the tiled bathroom has a deep 1930's bath, rainwater shower head and a view of the garden.

A three-seater emerald velvet couch takes centerstage in our lounge room, and a large refurbished country table seats six for dinner. Our flatscreen TV has full access to Netflix and Stan, and we offer unlimited WiFi.

The kitchen, though small, is well-designed. Preparing meals is easy thanks to large country-style gas oven, which can easily fit two roast chickens in it! The two-draw dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and fridge are all new, and tea, coffee and cooking staples are all provided (along with unlimited wood for our fireplace).

The artist studio is the perfect place to try your hand at a little painting, sketching or just relaxing in our cane lounge. Canvases, paper, paint and pencils are all provided.

The garden features wonderful examples of both native and exotic plants: the front garden enclosed by photinia hedges is a classic Blue Mountains planting with new and old rhododendrons (some reaching up to 15 metres high!), azaleas, daphnes, camellias, hydrangeas and almost 30 Japanese maples. Under the maples in spring is a jonquil lawn and in autumn the changing colours of the maples are stunning.

The back garden cascades gently down the hillside in a series of carefully planted terraces. Just below the back deck are some kitchen plantings of citrus and herbs (help yourself!). Further down, a paved terrace is ringed by lavender bushes, overlooking a terrace of six olive trees. Below that is a grassed area featuring banksias and waratahs and a barbecue . A tree-fern gully leads down into a further native garden that ends in tall stands of mountain blue gums.

Our garden offers a wide array of nooks and special hideaways for a cup of tea, or wine, and homemade lunch or for reading/ sketching. There are many places to sit and catch the sun or avoid it depending on the season.

A great getaway!
If you are looking for solitude and just relax by the fire, this is the place. Bonus if you are an artist to get creative in the artist’s studio! The owners have gone out of their way to make you feel welcome and your stay comfortable.

Comfortable and cosy cottage with wonderful views
“The Artist’s Cottage” is set up with everything you need and even an artist’s studio with materials to use. It’s terraced gardens abounds with birds and the views at sunset are very special. The sunroom is the perfect spot to read in the afternoon and there are plenty of quiet spots in the garden too. Even though the weather was wet and misty the cottage was warm and cosy.

Our stay at this beautiful cottage was excellent! The space was so clean and spacious with amazing amenities and things you may need. Lovely peaceful cottage
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful little cottage, which is full of rustic character but still very comfortable. There’s a stunning view through the scorched trees to the rest of the bush and the spectacular mountain cliffs, as well as a pretty garden around the house. The heating is great, I need not have packed fluffy slippers or a thick warm dressing gown afterall. Highly recommended if you’re after a restful break in a quiet location, which is still only a short drive from all the area’s attractions.

Beautiful location
This cottage was the perfect place to stay for a few days - we could've easily stayed a week. Lots of beautiful and sunny sitting spots in the garden, a decent kitchen, a well prepared fire for cold nights, comfy bed with warm bedding just to name a few highlights! It's also beautifully decorated with interesting art and objects rather than the all-too-familiar airbnb styling. Thanks Lucy and Michael!

Pure Mountain Magic
I am so grateful to Lucy & Micheal for opening the doors of their delightful cottage to visitors. As mum & carer to a teenager with disability, time spent there allows me to just be & access to the art studio encourages me to create. This is my second stay & I would love to return, Jen W.

Cute and cosy
The cottage is really sweet with a beautiful garden and views onto the national park. We could have spent all day out there had it not been the middle of winter! The house is so nicely done and the longer you are there the more you notice all the little extras and attention to detail - hats and shawl and a picnic rug on hooks by the door and a little box with materials to make your own gift cards in the artist's studio to name a couple -- that Lucy and Michael have added to make this cottage feel special. Heating is also top notch if you are going for a winter stay. It's probably a little too far into Blackheath (25 mins) for a casual stroll but is a quick car ride away. Loved staying here and would like to come back in the warmer months to enjoy more of the garden and the view. Thanks Lucy and Michael.

Lovely little mountain cottage
The four of us were very comfortable here. Lots of lovely touches making it a special place, especially the bottle of wine and bar of chocolate. The garden is fun to forage through before cooking dinner. The fires came very close, but the regrowth, already, is amazing. Dont forget to put out some birdseed, the visitors are stunning.

Beautiful cottage in beautiful village
We had a lovely stay at The Artist’s Cottage. We had everything we need and the extras of a artist studio was much enjoyed by our 2 boys. The fire was lovely at night, the gardens simply beautiful and the birds feeding every day was a favourite. Creature comforts like Netflix and Stan was a nice addition too. Pulpit Rock which is just a short distance away is a must see spot, especially at sunset. We would love to one day come back (all the way from WA) stay again and explore more

Wonderful
It was a pleasure to stay 4 nights in this cottage and the owners had thought of every detail, from providing a shower cap to the extensive library. The yard and sunroom were delightfully sunny, with central heating and a fire to round out the heating. Location was easy to get to but felt remote and peaceful - no noise from neighbours and very little traffic. Bushwalks and cafes were equally easy to get to, or you could happily stay put and read or watch the native birds.

Perfect Blue Mountains Holiday
This gorgeous cottage is thoughtfully prepared for guests and is exactly as represented in photos and description. The sheets are fresh and crisp, towels fluffy and soft, kitchen fully equipt, bathroom stocked with staples, an array of games and books, bird seed to feed the birds, numerous sitting areas throughout the garden, magnificent views and high tech heating/cooling in addition to the wood fire. We look forward to returning many times over. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We are a creative couple from Sydney who loves the beauty of the Blue Mountains. This is our much-loved mountain retreat and we love to share with like-minded travellers.

Why they chose this property

This is a cosy little cottage with lots of original touches. The gardens are beautifully planted, with over 40 maples, as well as tree ferns, tall gums and a forrest of native plantings.

What makes this property unique

We love the location of the cottage, the garden and the fireplace! But we also spent time in the art studio, painting and drawing, or in the sunroom reading one of the 500 books on offer.
