This cozy little cottage next to the ocean is a great get away! It is conveniently located for sightseeing around the Golden Circle. We had some breathtaking northern lights there also. I really appreciated how extremely helpful Margret is! I would love to stay there again if I had the opportunity.

Perfectly described cozy cottage
Everything you need is in this home; it is warm, a great place to lay your head for a great night's sleep or sit on the porch with your hot chocolate and watch the northern lights. It was as described and we were very happy with the owners and home!

Lovely little place!
This is a cute little place! It’s located near to a nice city, but gets you away from town and towards a lovely isolated little getaway. It’s clean and the manager is lovely. I got to pet a neighborhood cat, which is always a plus.

Honeymoon Vacation
The property was very clean and the location was great as we wanted to tour Iceland on our honeymoon. Host was easy to contact and gave us great information for our stay. The only negatives we had were that the listing wasn't clear. When we booked, we thought we'd be getting the bigger cottage with the washing machine and dryer but didn't find out that it wasn't included till after we booked. We also didn't have wifi in the cottage as it was disconnected by a previous guest. The cottage we stayed in (the one bed/one bath) is small but good for a few days.

Romantisches kleines Cottage

About the host

Host profile image
My name is Margrét and I am a teacher and a mother of four children. I grew up in this beautiful historical village, Eyrarbakki, when I was a child and my parents still live there.
I love the village, it is so peaceful and friendly. In November 2003 I got an opportunity to buy a lovely cottage by the ocean. It is a early 20th century stone-built cottage built in1913, the name of it is Suðurgata. Since we bought It, it has been renovated and refurbished with love and passion by the my brothers and husband. The brothers are both master carpenters and have renovated many of the orginal houses in Eyrarbakki and Reykjavík. For many years a local midwife lived here and many people talk about the warm atmosphere felt in the cottage.

In the 18th century Eyrarbakki was very vibrant community. Nowadays it is quiet and peaceful village with lot of old colourful houses. The most prominent house in the village is called ,,The House'' it is one of the oldest house in Iceland and it was the centre for European art and culture. Today it is a museum and open to visitors during the summer, I highly recommend to take a tour.
