The Cowshed is a 1 bedroom unit classic cottage. Located in Russell’s Wairoro Park and shared between 6 dwellings across 64 hectares, both you and your pets are welcome to enjoy the large native grounds and private beach. This is an ideal option for a peaceful getaway to the stunning Bay of Islands.

The Cowshed is a cosy self-contained one bedroom cottage with small ensuite (no bath), small well equipped kitchen, covered deck and BBQ.

Spend days at the private beach onsite. Set yourself up at the picnic table or enjoy the complimentary Kayaks and paddle board. Be sure to keep watch for Kiwi and Weka living in the surrounding native bush. The Point House also has a large rural property with facilities shared between guests accommodation.

The Russell to Okiato walk crosses the rear of the property and offers spectacular ocean views. For a taste of the local wine Omata vineyard is next door to this expansive site. If you’re coming across from the Opua ferry, this tranquil holiday park is situated just 2km away. Head over to Russell for the day, just 7 minutes drive and while your there jump on the ferry to Paihia. For a piece of New Zealand, Waitangi is less than 5 minutes from Paihia.

Please note that there is a 1.5 km gravel driveway into Wairoro Park, with a max speed limit of 30km/hr.Adults should closely supervise young children to ensure that they do not climb the horizontal wooden slats in the deck barrier.As the property has unfenced access to ponds, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water.Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. Great dog friendly place
This was perfect for our short stay. Well located, had everything we needed. Was abit dated but we didn't mind that. Great place for dog friendly accomdation.

Good for a couple of nights
A beautiful setting with stunning views. Lots of work had gone into the grounds to make them pleasant for guests. The ponds house goldfish and frogs. We stayed for a week, but we only had one toilet roll for two people supplied, no cleaning products to keep the place clean, one rubbish bag, one tea towel and only one very used small cake of soap to use in the shower. We phoned about the toilet roll and toilet cleaner, which were supplied promptly which was great. We went out and bought soap, toilet air freshener, and cleaning cloths to use for our stay. There were small things wrong: a very bouncy bed when partner turned over, the other person bounced. A sliding door leading into the toilet from the bedroom that knocked when the wind blew (no bottom runner) so we used a folded facecloth to stop the knocking. No shelf to put your toilet bag when using it - only the floor or toilet lid as the vanity unit was very small. No hook for clothes when showering and nowhere to hang the single tea towel, so used the curtain hook. A dust pan and brush, but no broom. A stick vacumn cleaner that hardly worked and hadn't been emptied. The place just seemed a bit tired with faded curtains etc. Otherwise the accommodation was adequate with no frills. The location was delightful though and like being in a bird aviary full of bird song. So lovely. Just would have been better to stay only a couple of nights as the small problems became annoying after a weeks stay.

Peaceful retreat
This is a great dog friendly place. The location is beautiful; with a lovely beach and great bird life. Dogs are allowed off lead and there are on-lead bush walks available nearby. The unit was well equipped and had a beautiful view. The only downside was the permanent residents living there would sit on their deck in the evenings and smoke weed. This meant that we could not sit outside and enjoy the evenings.

We loved this place, a great reminder of exactly what a holiday should be!
We loved this place, a great reminder of exactly what a holiday should be! Totally emersed in nature, there is an abundance of birdlife and the private bay is just awesome. We caught fish of the beach and went out on the dinghy too. We fed a very tame dove on our deck and also saw weka the first day. Great facilities and an overall fantastic property to explore. The location was very handy to explore the area and we didn't want to leave. Thank you for a wonderful stay :)

Nice to see weka & pheasents etc. Lovely Tui morning chorus to wake up to. Very private accommodation & hidden little bay with beautiful views across the water to Paihia. Easy drive to Russell. A wonderful, relaxing stay. The Cowshed was very comfortable and warm. Very friendly people on site. We have certainly found a gem to get away and enjoy a private oasis which is dog friendly. We will definitely be back! Loved it !

This has to be the most dog friendly place in NZ.
This has to be the most dog friendly place in NZ. The beach is on the doorstep, there's shade and seats and room for all. The smaller chalets are well equipped and comfortable and perfect for a couple. Close to the Opua ferry and only a few minutes drive from Russell and a couple of well-worth a-visit-wineries.
