About this property

The Grand Ole Osprey - Corolla Oceanside - The Original Classic Beach House!

Welcome to the “Grand Ole Osprey”

Experience the charm of a true family beach house! The “Grand Ole Osprey,” our family’s beloved retreat, was built in the late 1970s on a $1,000 plot of land in the coveted, private Ocean Sands Beach community. Over the past 43 years, this classic cedar-plank home has weathered hurricanes, nor’easters, and everything in between, standing strong as a testament to timeless craftsmanship and care.

Nestled at the end of the cul-de-sac on the edge of 17 ½ acres of shared open-space dunes, this home offers breathtaking views and a backyard teeming with wildlife—foxes, deer, rabbits, and, of course, the osprey that inspired its name. Whether it’s the ocean waves crashing nearby or the cozy interior finished in gorgeous Ponderosa Pine, this is where family memories are made.

Relaxing Vacation in OBX

The Grand Old Osprey house was very cozy and private. My first time inOBX and we really enjoyed the location (close to grocery store as well as backed up to open dunes- best of both worlds). The host was super responsive all my questions before and during my stay. Highly recommend staying here.

Lovely family getaway

We just spent a week at The Grand Ole Osprey and it was just what we needed before our kids head back into the school year in NJ. There was enough room for our family and my best friend's family to all stay. The new kitchen appliances were a bonus and the outdoor deck is very spacious! Also a big fan of the outdoor shower for getting all the sand off after the beach each day. The location of the house, at the end of a cul-de-sac was terrific for our kids and there is no traffic on the street whatsoever. The quick walk to the beach each day was amazing and close enough to walk back with kids for bathroom and lunch breaks. Overall, we had a great time!

Family Getaway

We really enjoyed our time at the Grand ole Osprey. We loved being just steps from the beach and sitting on the back porch to hear the waves. Our kids were easily able to do their school virtually with the WiFi. We also enjoyed being a short drive to mini golf, bumper cars, and Loved the pizza from pizzazz pizza! The owner was easy to contact when we had questions. We would happily return for another week in the future.

Exceptional experience at a charming beach house

We were both eager for and anxious about a pandemic getaway with our family “bubble” and could not have chosen a better property. Set at the end of a cul de sac with a short walk to a lovely beach, the clean and welcoming house was perfect for seniors as well as a toddler and young child and their parents. Large decks with ample and comfortable outdoor furniture are on three sides of the first floor and smaller decks are off two of the upstairs bedrooms, one of which features an ocean view. The sound of the ocean surf, coupled with entertainment offered by deer, fox, and other wildlife frequenting the dunes behind the house, made the deck our go-to spot for relaxation. This old fashioned beach house had all the modern updates in kitchen appliances, heating/cooling, fans in every room, and several TVs. The kitchen is extremely well stocked. Throughout the house, kid friendly touches were everywhere from plastic cups and unbreakable dishes to step stools in the kitchen and bathrooms. A small play area under the deck had simple seating and offered a great play space for a rainy day. Although we brought our own, toys, books and games were available. A robust and consistent WiFi network enabled our granddaughter to continue virtual kindergarten. The owner was extraordinarily responsive and helpful, providing valuable info and advice to enhance our stay. The Grand Ole Osprey brought us much needed relaxation for which we will always be grateful!

We have enjoyed our stay in Corolla

We have liked the house and our trip went very well. There is ocean view from second floor balcony. The walk to the beach is about 5 minutes through the path between the houses. The outdoor shower is very convenient and has both cold and hot water. The weather was good and the beach is not very crowded. There is lifeguard near entrance to the beach.

I'm one of the lucky ones. My hobby as a kid has been my career path for the past 40 years. I built a music business around selling and buying vintage American-made guitars and amplifiers. I'm a self employed store owner/musician/businessman for over 30+ years. I have been working in construction, music and real estate all my life. My most rewarding job now is being a husband and father to an amazing wife and two kids. We bought the Osprey because of the perfect location for family and children. Grandparents can be downstairs in their cozy king bedroom while the rest of the crew can be upstairs in several nicely equipped and comfortable bedrooms.

Why they chose this property

The moment we walked in I knew this place was the place. It was like nothing else I had seen up until that point. Many gorgeous houses we looked at, but nothing had the character of the Grand Ole Osprey. With all its wood covered walls and decks everywhere. It's the oldest structure in this part of Corolla and has been lovingly maintained throughout many storms by two separate owners the same family for over 45 years. We are fortunate to have such a great place to get away.

What makes this property unique

Walk out onto the back porch and you will be pleasantly greeted with 17 1/2 acres of open space sand dunes. It's quite unique and special to have so much undeveloped open space as your "backyard". It reminds me somewhat of the desert in 29 Palms, California I grew up in as a kid. Then you start hearing the sound of waves crashing and your blood pressure starts to immediately drop. Head up to the second floor deck and you will have a breathtaking view of the massive dunes out back and just enough view of the ocean to see the "whitecaps" out in the Atlantic. Their are plenty of places to hang out throughout the day at the Osprey. Many evenings we have spent cooking crabs or just hanging out under the carport known more affectionately as " The Bunker".
