Amazing spot for a ski trip

Fantastic accommodation with comfortable beds, very functional kitchen, mud room for ski gear, and quick drive to the mountain. The whole group loved our stay. Girdwood is also a badass town if you’ve never been!

Quiet, peaceful and very comfortable

Our family likes to get together every couple years. This place was perfect for us (8 origional, but only 6 could make it) to have 3 nights together. This is a very well built and beautiful place. The bedrooms are really quiet and the beds are incredibly comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked for coming, and the house has a great view of the ski slopes! I'd use this place again if it's still available.

Amazing accommodations & view!

My family and I stayed at the property for a week for my wedding at Alyeska Resort. Hosts were great with communication and very thorough in their house instructions and tips for things to do in the area. The location is great, with the main area of Girdwood no more than 10 minutes away, and easy access to the highway. The house is very spacious and was the perfect home base for our day trips in Alaska.

Great gathering space.

We found this rental to be perfect for a small group of friends meeting for the weekend. Beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stalked and a fun place for us to cook together, the livingroom/kitchen was very inviting. The pool table also a great asset, thanks for the fun. The only reason I took a star off for location was we found it a little too far to walk to the ski hill or restaurants in the "town center", others might not find it too far at all. This is the second time wwe have rented this home and would do so again.

beautiful house in a beautiful setting

We came to Girdwood on a family vacation. The house was beautiful, most notably the kitchen which was well stocked and super nice. The pool table was a hit. The view from the main room was amazing. The beds were too soft for our family's liking, and there was no bath soap or shampoo/conditioner provided which is the only reason I take away a star- this is a 4 1/2 star property. The property manager is so great- she was available to answer any questions about the town, very very helpful!

Great mountain getaway in Girdwoodo

The house was in a very safe and scenic area. Shawn, the owner, took time to explain a bunch of things about the house and the area in general. The house was very spacious and perfect for our group of 7, and the pool table was a huge hit! One note, the oven/burners are a bit "off" (oven gets super hot and a few burners don't work) but he told me about it ahead of time and that he would be replacing soon anyways....so no biggie at all and we were able to make it work for our needs. The views out the windows are unbelievable and the location can't be beat- so close to all the hiking and biking you could want. Plus, easy drives to Seward, Whittier, etc. for other adventures. All in all a great spot!

Fun place with a beautiful view

This place was just right for our large family vacation. The pool table was super fun. When I looked at the place, there was a picture of the view out the great room window, and it showed a trampoline, which was something I thought was also something we had access to, however, it must have been the neighbors. (Not a big deal.) The linens were nice, the kitchen was wonderful, everything in the house was super clean except the oven. (Not a big deal.) The one thing that wasn't quite right was the lack of hand towels in a couple of the bathrooms, and there was no laundry access,

Large home good location short on amenities.

This is a good home for a large group. We had 9 for a wedding. Very nice living area with fireplace and pool table. However, home was short on amenities. No soap for showers ,very limited hangers, no extra pillows or blankets and lots of rules. Only way to get streaming on the tv was with physically connecting our iPad . We reached out to the owners re additional pillows and Hangers were told they were locked up but no response other than that. We stayed in 3 homes during our Alaska visit, with this one having the least amenities. My son left his laundry in the dryer and the owner was nice enough to gather and placed those in the home where we could retrieve them. Overall good clean home for large group with a good location.

UNHINGED

After a 10-year history of renting homes, I’ve never written a poor review until now. Unhinged is the best word to describe my experience with the host of this property, Shawn Gannon. From his defensive and argumentative attitude towards an amenities request, which then precipitated his demand to meet me in the garage of his rental property the next day to demand an apology, which then precipitated a 5-minute rampage on the phone to spew totally irrelevant issues concerning the rental (on the day of my son’s wedding), which then precipitated his entering the rental property unannounced with the houseguests present, which then precipitated his yelling at one of them with a pointed finger, to finally his overall obsession with guest thievery…. Shawn’s actions and words were extremely over-the-top and inappropriate. Whether you chalk it up to a host having a bad day or a host with poor anger management skills, either way it is no excuse for a host to treat his guests in this manner. Ironically, Rule #1 of the Mountain View Guest House: Rental Rules states: “We request that you treat our home respectfully”. Mr. Gannon needs to heed some of his own advice and conversely treat his guests respectfully as well, a basic expectation of guests spending over $1100.00 per night. Due to my disturbing experience with the host, I wouldn’t recommend and would highly discourage the rental of this property. Should you choose to do so anyway, I’d advise you not to question the towel count.

Beautiful Home

This home is gorgeous and kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies. We only stayed 2 nights as a stop off to Homer because we wanted to hike the Girdwood area and enjoy the Nordic spa. Apart from the kitchen, this home is less well stocked than others we’ve stayed in with respect to linens and other amenities such as bedding and bathroom supplies. Plan on bringing all your own toiletries as it states in the description and as others have mentioned. The beds are comfortable, but only one pillow per person and they could use replacing. The owner met us at the house, gave us a full tour of the house and stayed for a while to talk. He was very nice, but it was a bit awkward - we were exhausted after a very long travel day from CA and just wanted to drop our bags and head to dinner, and he stayed for about 45 minutes going over the house and rules. We’ve never experienced that with other vacation rentals. The couches in the living room were also covered in large sheets because they are leather. He seemed like he wanted us to keep them covered so we did, but that was uncomfortable/odd. The pool table was super fun, the views are great, and the neighbors/neighborhood are lovely. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but would probably look somewhere else next time because it really felt like the owners would rather not have people staying in their home which gave it an uncomfortable/unwelcoming vibe overall.

Spacious well appointed home with full view of the mountains

This home accommodated our family of 8 perfectly. The property manager is very helpful and was very quick in providing an extra fan when Girdwood decided to hit 88 degrees! (there is no air conditioning in most home in Girdwood). It has a large window in the family room that has a full view of the mountains. The location is very convenient to everything and on a dead end street so there is not traffic speak of. The kitchen is very well appointed and there are many extra's such as extra towels, spices, bug spray, spare fridge in the garage, soap, shampoo, laundry soap. The pool table is a nice extra for an extra activity. There are two full bathrooms on the second floor (one of which is the master bathroom) so really there is one bathroom on the second floor for 3 other bedrooms. The first floor does have another full bathroom which helps to supplement the one upstairs. This property is on a street with about 10 or so newish homes and is in a clearing near all the wooded homes-there really aren't any trees to speak of on the property, but this grants the view to the mountains that you would not have otherwise. There are 2 large dogs next door that freely come onto the property whenever you walk outside, so that may be daunting to some people or little kids (they seem very friendly though). The family room also looks directly into the neighbors backyard, so an optional shade on that main window would be helpful.

Disappointed

This will be a two part review, one for the owners and second for the property. I will not recommend this property to anybody. The owners were easy to contact at first, but when the “issue” arose, not so much so. Upon checkin Shawn was still cleaning the house, and advised us it will be a few before he was done. After he finished he did a walk through of the house, and advised us about the “landmines” in the yard which was from the neighborhood dogs. The yard hard not been maintained, and come to find out either had the hot tub. After one use the Hot tub was filthy.... and obviously not cleaned. The rule book is massive and includes no noise after 10PM. The property is so close to other homes, there is no privacy at all, the windows have a great view of other houses, any noise travels greatly. 5 days after check out the owners made false claims about or stay, and tried to scam us out of $200 from our security deposit. One reason was from a “noise complaint” from a neighbor early Saturday night/ Sunday morning. The cause of this noise complaint came from us unloading our wedding stuff into the house after our wedding in Girdwood, oh and also a car alarm going off. These houses are so close together that our voices asking for help in the driveway caused this complaint. The second complaint was a false statement about finding beer cans around the hot tub, which was completely false and unfounded. The third complaint was about garbage bags in the garage, to which were placed where asked. VRBO looked at these claims, and verified them to be false. I will not recommend this place to anybody, and will urge caution about booking this place if there will be any noise, or larger groups. Luckily we were able to recover the $200 that we almost got scammed out of.
