About this property

Mostly Dune at Thunder Cove

How close to the water can you be without being in it? This beachfront property extends to the waterline of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The beach path is steps away from the spacious wrap-around lower level deck, and leads to miles of beautiful, unspoiled, sandy beach on the north shore of Prince Edward Island. The deck and great room offer a view of the sun rising from the sea and setting over the cliffs to the West.

The cottage's upper-level deck-offering a panoramic view of Thunder Cove's dunes, cliffs, beach and sea-extends from an all-glass high-ceilinged great room. This 30 foot-wide room has four patio doors to the deck, and includes a living and dining area, as well as a modern kitchen with Corian countertops.

The two upper level bedrooms also open to the wrap-around deck. A central staircase leads to the lower deck with three bedrooms, a laundry room, a full bath, and a TV/recreation room, which opens to the sheltered lower deck on the dune with a view of the sea beyond.

The cottage has five bedrooms; three with queen beds, one with two twin beds, and one with two bunk beds sleeping four. In total, the cottage sleeps 12, plus two in the sofa bed in the downstairs TV/rec room. The two queen-sized bedrooms upstairs each have an ensuite bathroom with whirlpool baths. An additional full bathroom is located on the first floor.

Beautiful Thunder cove

PEI is the perfect family vacation! We only had one week but enjoyed all the magic of the island. Thunder cove is gorgeous. The location of the cottage can’t be beat. With sunrise and sunset views from the wrap around deck and unobstructed view of the ocean and dunes. The cottage is relaxing and spacious. The kids loved exploring the dunes and beach combing. We look forward to returning to PEI!

Disappointment at a premium price for the view!

THE PLUSSES: Property location & view excellent--Beds & linens upstairs were good; THE REST: Overall Property needs significant refresh & investment as it is very tired and ''rental weary'' Sliding doors X3 that do not slide andone must fight with them to close & open!; Floors, carpet & Kitchen was was dirty upon arrival, including utensils & cooking implements, drawers, cupboards and appliances which all needed a cleaning-scrubbing before use--(food left behind by prior occupant-crumbs, hairs & dust etc); BBQ was filthty ,with grill and drip area underneath, not cleaned in months AND ,as a result ,was a fire hazard even when used carefully. The BBQ is on it's last legsl iike many of the other appliances ( EX: Dryer needed repair during our stay & fridge had difficulty keeping temperature setting when filled up for the week)., Deck structure would sway when someone walked inside the house and picnic tables were unstable and therefore not used; Last but not least, we arrived to find a mound of recycling --compost and garbage bags left behind. Upon enquireing we received a note that the recycling bags ( of which there were 18) are only picked up on the third Thursday of the month with no indication as to whom would/should take care of same! On the Thursday in question we took out our own garbage and compost as well as ALL of the recycling . That said, at the price charged for one week, we should not have to worry about such things except for the bags we generate. The disappointment also stemmed from the fact that the owner who lived nearby , showed up just as we were leaving and seemed ''unaware'' of the current status of the rental unit and blamed things on her cleaning crew. I take no pleasure in addressing these issues but, as I indicated to the owner, when people pay a premium amount for a rental, they are entitled to expect a clean and functional unit. One was left with the feeling that this tired property made the view & location very expensive!

Best location possible

The house itself is a bit quirky, but the bright, open main living space with panoramic views is absolutely unbeatable. Beach access is directly beside the house- you could not possibly get closer- and the dune views are perfectly PEI. We loved staying here! The two upper bedrooms are convenient and comfortable, and the attached bathrooms are a definite plus. The lower bedrooms are adequate for kids. The bunk room could work for small children although it is very tight and our kids would not sleep in this room. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils. The wrap around deck is spectacular and where we spent most of our time. It really is the highlight of the property and we enjoyed it very much! The out door shower with warm water was very handy. This property was great for two families with kids and I would recommend it highly.

Beautiful property, professional owners

Again this year we had a magical time at Mostly Dune. The operators of this property are professional, attentive and meticulous in their care of the property and their customers. Thank you for another wonderful week - see you next year!

Beautiful

We had a fantastic time! The views from the cottage were gorgeous. We rented with two other families and had plenty of room. Each family had their own bathroom which was very helpful when getting ready to go in the morning :). The owners are very lovely people and were always available for help or to answer questions. They always made sure the propane tank for the BBQ was full and that our needs were met. We will definitely rent from them again. In our opinion Thunder Cove is the most beautiful place on the island! The Sparks Family and Friends

A dream come true!

You would have to be a real grump or diva to not adore this cottage! The place is beautiful and the location ideal. You have an amazing view of dunes and ocean all around you with the wrap around windows and a deck on two levels also wrap around. The gorgeous beach is steps away. The owner came right over when we needed help with the grill. The cottage was clean and had all that we needed, we were seven with three kids and had plenty of space, the two levels is great if you have kids, they can play downstairs. Queen size bed downstairs was not very comfortable - hard - but other beds were comfortable. The cottage is so great that you will have to force yourself to leave to visit other parts of the island. Thanks to Mescal and John for sharing this truly wonderful cottage, it gave us so much happiness.

Amazing!

This wonderful cottage made our vacation perfect. We were close enough to all the sites we wanted to see, but away from all the crazy tourism. It took us about a minute to walk to the beach- which was a perfect beach for our kids to play in the water and sand. Sherrie had the home open and ready for us and checked in on us frequently. The few extra things we needed for cooking for our large group she found for us. It's an amazing place. The view of the stars, sunrises and sunsets are unforgettable. We loved this place and are excited to come back!

Best summer vacation spot ever!

Our one-week stay at Mostly Dune was by far the best vacation spot our family has ever enjoyed!! Very comfortable, well-maintained house with a great layout allowing for spectacular views of the ocean, sunrises and sunsets. Lots of opportunity on the upper deck for stargazing at night and sipping coffee in the morning. The public but very private beach is only a minute-walk away over the dune and is perfect, especially for families with young children - soft sand, shallow waters and close by. Our kids especially enjoyed catching crabs in the ocean in August! A short stroll down the beach provides some fantastic natural wonders to explore in rocks and caves. Great places nearby to pick up fish and seafood for dinner, great local souvenirs and even play some golf. Mostly Dunes is a hidden treasure. Can't wait for a return visit again!

Mostly Dune was absolutely amazing!! The house is beautiful, very clean and well maintained. The pictures on the site do not do justice to the house. Morning were spent with a cup of coffee on the beautiful upper deck overlooking the Gulf. The location was exceptional just a short walk down the dunes to the beautiful beach. When booking the house the owners responded quickly to my enquiry via email followed by a phone call. The housekeeper Sherry was amazing she came and opened up the house for us and was always available for any questions we had. I would highly recommend this house to everyone and look forward to renting it again. I would suggest that maybe you should go a little later in the year as many things were not yet open for the season the third week of May.
