Noisy, Noisy home

We had no idea the house was next door--literally 10 feet from a mechanic shop. The air compressors start at 8am. The banging, clanking, sawing, mufflers, engine starts run all day. Between 5pm-6m, the mechanic store closes. That's when you discover that the house nears the corner of a busy road. So the sounds of engines, motorcycles, trucks run loud and heavy until around 4am. Just when you think you're going to get a minute of peace, the neighbor's dog starts barking. If you don't mind noise, you'll be fine. The house has a lot of great square footage. There's ample couches and chairs. No where to put a drink in the living room so you'll just have to set in on the floor (no end tables), center table is too far away. There's only one shower in the house. One bathtub upstairs in the room with the king and trundle. The issue is that that bathroom is open on top. So everyone in the room will hear you go to the bathroom. And after the first use of the bathtub it will be dirty. So plan on washing regularly. Speaking of washing, guests are asked to bag and take out trash, run the dishwasher, and I kid you not, wash and put away all towels. Yes, you get to pay a SIGNIFICANT cleaning fee AND clean the house. I wouldn't stay here again. Again, if you like noise and cleaning and don't need privacy you'll like this place.

Family getaway

We enjoyed our stay at the Blue Elm house. Very spacious and extremely clean. There were 9 in our group and there was plenty of room with plenty of beds. The air conditioner wasn’t working great and within an hour of contacting our agent they were coming to fix it and we had no other problems, Terri was wonderful to work with! We will definitely be back!

AC wasn’t working for 24 hours. Owner did her best but it was too hot. Needs more than 1 unit.

Location was not exactly walking distance to downtown. We drove to downtown because of the heat. Home is older. Needs a bigger Ac unit.nor a portable upstairs... it was so hot we couldn’t even use the upstairs. We doubled up in two rooms downstairs and had to buy a fan . Closet in front room smelled of mildew / wet carpet. So we were unable to use it. I was tempted to leave but owner tried her best to fix AC and I appreciated that. (AC had froze up... prior to our arrival. ) We still had a great time in Mckinney and didn’t let the little things concern us too much.

Great place to stay - close to McKinney Square

My family stayed in the Blue Elm over the Easter holiday weekend. We walked to town twice. Across the street is an elementary school. We took our 2 year old over to play twice. The home is casual and warm, big and easy to take care off. I would definately stay again. There's a nice backyard also.

The Blue Elm house

Many family members planned to attend a wedding in McKinney, so the idea of a lot of us being able to stay together was appealing, especially since we don't see each other all that often. A house suitable for a large gathering seemed appropriate, so this house, for ten, looked about right. Unfortunately, those ten have to be close enough to each other to sleep together, and not all our family is, so the house really accommodates comfortably only about eight sleepers. And, for those who stay upstairs, the bathing part of the bathroom wasn't very useful for those accustomed to showering. And, yes, I realize that was acknowledged on the web site. According to one who slept there, the upstairs carpet could use a cleaning. So, we had eight people, but we couldn't all eat together because there are only six dining room chairs--another web site claim. And that many people sharing a single shower made for some interesting schedules. All that said, we were able to enjoy the very comfortable front room for stop-over visits by other family members. The kitchen facilities were adequate and sufficient for our needs, except that--minor detail--it's a good thing we didn't all drink coffee as there weren't enough cups to go around, and we also ran out of paper products. Bedrooms need some side tables and a chair or two for comfort--just some homey touches. A concern was parking, but since we were there during a holiday weekend, no one complained. The house is centrally located, so it was easy to find and to drive to. It's also in a working-class neighborhood, no nearby grocery stores or restaurants to walk to, but that was not a problem for us. While I realize that an owner has an investment to protect, the rental process as well as the list of do's and don't's was a little intimidating. I fully expected to be hit with an additional charge for failing one of the many, and detailed, departure expectations. Other VRBO experiences have not been nearly as restrictive. Because of the per person price, the location, the number of family who slept there and who gathered there, I would rent it again. The positives outweigh the negatives.

They scheduled a roof replacement during our stay which came with two 0630 wake up calls, ceiling fan fell. A real disaster of a stay and no offer for any kind of refund.

We made GREAT wedding memories here

It's been two weeks since my son's wedding in McKinney, and we are all still talking about how fun and special it was to stay in Blue Elm House with our family and our son's groomsmen. The house is very spacious, with room to sleep and host a large group. This made it very easy for us to all be together eating, playing, laughing and sleeping. The upstairs "master" is like a huge loft, with lots of room for people to sleep, with a roomy bathroom and large walk-in closet. Joe and Carolyn and their staff do a great job of keeping it well stocked with all of the towels and amenities you need. The large, modern kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, cooking supplies, and a few basic pantry items. We had plenty of cleaning supplies, shampoo and conditioner -- even bath salts for a soaking bath after the wedding! We also talked extensively before our visit to be sure that certain things we wanted to use would be there -- and they were all there! The location is perfect -- close to the major highways and almost any shopping you can imagine within a 10-20 minute radius. We had a few mechanical issues while we were there, but Joe and Carolyn were extremely attentive and worked diligently to get things sorted out as quickly as possible. We are so thankful that such a wonderful option existed for all of us to make such wonderful memories at such a special time in our lives. Thank you, Joe and Carolyn, for caring so much about your guests. We highly recommend!

Great location and big roomy house!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blue Elm House. We were in McKinney for a wedding and the house was within walking distance of the venue, so everything worked out well. There was plenty of room for everyone and the house had everything we needed. We will certainly consider staying there again if in the area.

The Blue Elm gets 5 stars from our family-it was clean, spacious and walking distance to downtown

The Blue Elm was the perfect rental for our family. We were in town for a wedding and the location was central to anything McKinney. The house accommodated 9 of us easily. We especially enjoyed walking to the downtown square for shopping and fun restaurants.

Great Experience

We utilized the Blue Elm House for the Groom Family/Groomsmen for a wedding in McKinney, and everything was great. I was able to utilize the kitchen for finishing the groom's cake, the beds were very comfortable, and the groomsmen used it for getting dressed and chilling. Was walking distance (20 minutes) of the McKinney Historical Square area. About the only thing I managed to miss was a detail list of what would be in the house - i.e. paper goods, cooking utensils, etc. Again, would highly recommend to anyone considering staying in the area!

spacious interior, good location.

The house is lovely on the inside, very spacious. The layout of the rooms is such that privacy is excellent. We had seven adults and a baby, and never felt crowded. Good location near downtown McKinney, short walk to the downtown area. Everything in the house is up to date, nice kitchen, big living room. Perfect for a large family or group of friends. Close to highways and major streets. There is an auto body shop next door, but we never noticed any noise inside the house. Everything worked. Very clean, everything we needed was there. This was kind of a one time event (a family wedding), but if we had similar circumstances we would stay here again.

Stay at Blue Elm house in McKinney was perfect!

Our large family of 7, 5 children ranging from 17-8 enjoyed our stay at this home more than we can express. It has every amity of home, washer/dryer, very clean, close to necessary stores, easy access to hi-ways, lots of room to have individual space. The photos are exactly what you see when you walk in! Ms. Northcutt and her staff were great to work with and made our stay even better knowing they were only a phone call away if needed. I have seen in past reviews about the noise from the shop next door, this was not a issue in the least! It was never distracting, neighbors are friendly and stay to themselves. We can't wait to come back and stay for another visit!

Great Home for a Family getaway

We stayed at the Blue Elm House for 4 nights, while we were in town for a family wedding, and found it perfect for our needs. We loved being able to spend time visiting with each other in the spacious living area. The beds are comfortable and I loved having 3 bathrooms. This is an older home which has been updated, but it was clean, with a roomy floor plan. It's really a great place to stay.

Wonderful, home away from home.

We rented the home to visit with family while attending a retirement party that was held in Lucas. The convenience to Lucas and Dallas was a plus as we had our son and his family join us. Grandchildren ages 7, 5 and twins 15 months visited the Ross Perot museum, and the two older girls took in a Rangers game with Dad and Grandparents. The accommodations of the home were all that you would expect. We made some suggestions about some larger cooking vessels for pasta and such, but we had a wonderful time and are already talking about another family trip.

The Blue Elm House is a beautiful older home with lots of space.

We greatly enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, warm, and inviting right from the moment we opened the front door. This is an older home- maybe 100 years?- that was expanded at some point to add some really nice touches. The master suite upstairs has tons of natural light, a walk in closet, and a claw foot tub in the bathroom, which was great for relaxing in. We were traveling with our 4 children, our daughter-in-law and our 1 year old grandson to visit extended family in the area. He actually turned 1 while we were there and we had plenty of space to have my local family- 9 of them in addition to our 8- over to celebrate with us. The fenced in backyard is cozy and was great for the kids to play in. The owners were fantastic to work with. The garbage disposal sprung a leak toward the middle of our stay, and they were right over to replace it and were very friendly. There is a fantastic donut shop within walking distance, as well as a bake shop (The Layered Bake Shop) that is willing to accommodate food allergies. McKinney is very convenient to Dallas, and my family took advantage of that to visit the Dallas Zoo, go to a Texas Rangers baseball game, enjoy an afternoon at a go kart track, and visit lots of shopping centers, including the Allen Outlet Mall. We are Catholic and there are several Catholic churches within 10 minutes drive of the house. We highly recommend this home as a place to use as your base for visiting the Dallas area. All in all, we were pleased with our stay and plan to stay here again when we are in the area.
