It was a very nice, quiet place. Very clean, with everything we needed. There are lots of places for hiking and taking walks, or just sitting outside and enjoying nature.
Well my daughter and I went on a little West Virginia mountain adventure to do some mountain photography and enjoy the color change and boy did we have an excellent stay!!! The property was just perfect for us, the color changes on the leaves were gorgeous the fire pit was great we did lots of cooking in the very well appointed kitchen and enjoyed being away from it all! Amy was an incredible host and went out of her way to make our stay so enjoyable. She was so easy to communicate with and responded right away to every question! We absolutely will be repeat customers, we loved this stay on moonshine Drive and will be back
For sure!
There is something lovely about small towns and this property adds to such beauty. Plenty of space to explore and hike. Our dog really enjoyed her stay and the freedom to be in nature. Amy was absolutely wonderful - she was responsive, kind and helpful. Staying in this cottage allowed us to slow down and disconnect since we did not have cell reception.
We loved our stay! The scenery is beyond beautiful. Very private and you can truly appreciate the nature around you. The home was clean, well stocked and felt like home. Amy was great at communicating when we were booking and upon arrival. I’m very grateful for this amazing getaway!
"Everywhere you look in Monroe County is a picture"
Exactly what my wife and I were after for our vacation. The cabin is very secluded and full of wildlife. The drives are extraordinary, with gorgeous views and scenery around every corner. Within a 30 minute to 1 hour drive are some of WV's most breathtakingly beautiful spots. The cabin was very clean and stocked with plenty of towels, pots and pans, etc. We look forward to returning in the future.
The cottage was extremely well kept and immaculately clean, there were ample towels, washcloths, dishes and cookware for an extended stay. It was even more remote than I anticipated but it made for very peaceful evenings. The road going to the cottage was rock and dirt, so I would never take a car in there. SUV, truck or a Jeep would be the best mode of travel. My only complaint was the listing mentioned satellite TV, but all the channels were pay per view, a bit disappointing, but we all brought books to read. We would highly recommend staying here, and I would love to come back sometime during the fall or even early winter before the snows start.
This place is just what we needed, quiet, peaceful, unplugged, away from it all. Not to far from town, still was able to get groceries and do some sight seeing. We enjoyed relaxing at night by the campfire and seeing the stars. Everything was perfect
Our stay at the Moonshine Cottage was exactly what we wanted. Secluded away from the hustle and bustle of the city nestled in the most beautiful mountains I’ve seen! Our stay couldnt have been any better! The cottage was clean, and stocked with everything we needed. Amy was terrific!! The best host we ever had! She met us at the beginning of the driveway and we followed her up the mountain. The driveway is a little long with a few rocks and bumps but my little Honda Accord made it up just had to go slow. Amy made sure the outside wood heater stayed going and She gave us completely privacy. We come from a already small town and we have our own 10Acre farm so it’s hard to find somewhere that offers more privacy and more disconnect. The moonshine cottage offered that and then more. We had no cell service for the most part just a little here and there in random spots. While at the cottage we also got to enjoy the trails on the property and we seen the deer a few times! Just the drive to the cottage was beautiful we took the “back roads” due to an accident on the interstate and You don’t realize how much of the country side your truly missing we had some of the most amazing views while on our way there. we also made the hike to the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory about 15-20 minutes away from the cottage and the views are amazing! It’s worth every bit of the hike! All around amazing area , amazing host, perfect location and the best mountain trip we have ever taken! Thank you so much Amy for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!
If you are looking for solitude in the woods and peace and quiet this is the perfect place. The house was comfortable, warm and had everything you would need in the kitchen. My only complaint would be the bed it was not very comfortable and might need replacing, but that did not prevent us from enjoying our trip and the beautiful mountain that the property sits on. Maxx our 2 year old Aussie Border Collie loved his stay too. If was so nice to take him for walks on the property with no leash. We will be back. PS. Thank you Cookie and the gentleman that was with you for being so friendly and sweet and helping us when we needed help with our truck.
Superb place to relax and forget your troubles back home! Very remote, but the peace and quiet was welcome. Saw gobs of deer, but missed out on the black bear that occasionally passes through 😀
We had a truly great weekend staying here. The owners were highly responsive even later in the evening (both before and during our trip.) the area has some really great things to do like the fire tower turned into a raptor observatory. The house itself is super cute and spacious. We were so so happy with our stay we just really wished we. Oils have stayed a few more days (or at East just one more!) would recommend staying here in a heartbeat.
To say that Amy and Tim were great is an understatement. My family and I had such an amazing time secluded in the woods with no distractions. The photos dont do this cute house or its amazing property any justice. The house was very clean and tidy. We appreciated Amy and Tims kind hospitality from the minute we arrived and realized the fire pit was set up and ready for a fire upon arrival, to even helping us out on our final night stay when we locked our keys in our truck on top of the mountain its nestled on. The last mile leading up to arrival is rough terrain, and definately not meant for a regular sedan so definately go there prepared and with that in mind. From the house, the night sky was unreal! The sky was so black and every single star was so bright. We all would star gaze every night in awe. Everyone we talked to in the area was so kind and generous. This was our first time visiting West Virginia, and it was soooo much more beautiful than i was expecting. So many beautiful mountains and valleys, i promise you after staying at this house it will leave you wanting to come back.
We will see you again soon Amy! Looking forward to it!! Thanks again for everything!!
Perfect getaway - no people, no cell service, just relaxation
Amy was very communicative as we prepared for our trip. Despite us arriving late, she had the lights on and everything ready and cozy for our arrival. The cottage is literally nestled in the mountains with no cell service and no distractions. It was the perfect weekend getaway for reading, hiking and relaxing by the firepit with some beverages. :) Thank you to Amy and Tim for providing this perfect oasis away from the chaos that is 2020.
Had a great week staying at the cabin. I mostly needed a solo sewing retreat to recharge my introvert battery (the dining room table was perfect for quilt scheming) but also enjoyed seeing Monroe County, Union and the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory (you could totally make it an all day out and back hike because the trail keeps going from the trailhead many miles past the Observatory). The cabin was immaculately clean, the pans were new (I still loved bringing my personal well loved cast iron) and the bathtub is pure magic. There was cell service for me if I walked 15 - 20 minutes up the mountain, useful for trip logistics without any of the hour by hour distractions. I had the most perfect week.
This was a truly wonderful experience. Amy is an amazing host. The property is breathtaking. My family absolutely loved staying here! We will be back as soon as we can!
If you are looking for beauty, piece and quite, tranquility and the love of the mountains this is the place. Most beautiful place I have ever been, love the mountains and what Mother Nature has achieved at Peters Mountain. Seeing deer in the yard and along the roadways was something you just don’t see everyday. Amy is the most gracious host anyone could ever ask for. We will definitely be returning in the near further.

This is a well kept secluded hide-away.
This a beautiful mountain hide-away. It is well off of the road for a quiet retreat. The area is close to several great hiking areas (Raptor Observatory, Cascades Recreational Trail, and McAfee Knob). It is a distance from town and restaurants so plan ahead. Minimum cell phone coverage but the location is worth it. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants peace and quiet and a beautiful location.

Almost Heaven-West Virginia!
I don't know where to begin. Our 6 night vacation in the cottage on Peter's Mountain was more than could be expected. The cottage was well equipped for cooking. I brought my crock pot which really came in handy. The setting was just beautiful. Every direction you look is just woods, woods and more woods. This was exactly what we wanted. Amy was absolutely wonderful. She checked on us a couple of times and made sure to come up to see us off when we had to leave. We can't wait to go back!

Amazing Family Memories made here!
We had such a wonderful time! Amy and Cookie are the best. Such a beautiful, cozy hidden gem that was just what our family needed. Will always have a special place in our hearts and will always make sure to come back. If you need peace and nature this is the place to find it and you'll find lifetime memories too! We were blessed to find this place and very grateful to Amy and her family for sharing their home with ours.

serenity and peace in a private, cute, and clean c
We absolutely adored this cute cottage back on 80 private acres in Almost Heaven West Virginia. Greatly enjoyed the serenityand homey feeling. Enjoyed seeing deer, turkey, watchin rlightning bugs at night. We seriously didn't want to leave. Amy was a great host and lovely person. Monroe county is the greatest and you can't imagine the beauty and way of life this county has. If you want to experience life like it used to be and peace and beauty, you will have to try out this place. We hope to return one day in the future!

Off the beaten path
Spent a relaxing weekend with the wife in this wonderful cottage. If you're looking for a place to relax and just get a break from the daily rat race, this is a great place to be. No WiFi or cellphone service and that was what drew us to this place; just great to have a break from everything. The nights were quiet and the stars were in full display. Walking paths around the property were a plus. The drive was nice with about a little over half a mile of ascending rugged terrain to reach the cottage; made it up there just fine with our little hybrid car (albeit VERY CAREFUL), but only because it was bone dry when we went there - can only imagine with a little moisture on the ground it would be a different story. Would highly suggest a truck, tall crossover, or SUV to make it up there. The cottage is fully stocked with everything that may be needed and the place was clean. Amy is a gracious host and she made sure that we were okay and had everything that we needed. Thank you for sharing this wonderful cottage and we look forward to coming back.
