Acadia Yurts offers visitors the most unique way to stay on Mount Desert Island. Seven fun, eco-friendly Yurts and two Tiny Houses will bring you as close to nature as camping, with all the amenities of home. Located on 5 acres of lovely wooded land, surrounded by Acadia National Park property, Acadia Yurts offer a peaceful retreat for your group (up to 4 guests per 24' Yurt, 6 guests for the 30' Yurt or 2 guests per Tiny House). Acadia Yurts is also ideal for large groups traveling with accommodations for up to 34 people on 1 site.

In addition to yurt or tiny house living, the Wellness Center at Acadia Yurts offers on-site yoga, an infrared sauna and a flotation tank, all available for extra charge. Prices available upon request.

A yurt is a tent-like circular fabric structure with a wood lattice frame that originated among the nomadic tribes in Asia. These permanent, colorful structures have thick canvas exterior walls that include reflective insulation and a high efficiency heat pump/AC unit so you can be comfortable during any season. Yurts are quickly becoming a new vacation experience that vacationers are enjoying throughout the US from cliff side views in California to ski lodges in Colorado. This is a memorable place to stay while enjoying the beauty of Acadia!

Staying at Acadia Yurts is a wonderful experience! You feel submerged in nature but are conveniently located to explore all of MDI. The hosts were wonderful to work with. We highly recommend!

Great home away from home!

The yurt was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for cooking meals. The laundry shed had an abundance of games and books and other extras to check out and share (like camp chairs to view the sunrise on Cadillac Mtn.) The location was close enough to other restaurants, shops, etc. but remote enough to be away from traffic. Loved it!

10/10 would recommend any day, any time. What a gem of a place to stay. Clean, comfortable, well equipped, great quiet location... the list goes on. Fantastic 'base camp' from which to partake in all that MDI has to offer.

The yurt was perfect!

We had such a comfortable stay at Acadia Yurts! It had everything we needed and had great decorative touches. This experience of Acadia and staying in a yurt was new to us, and it couldn’t have gone better!

Peaceful Oasis in Southwest Harbor

We absolutely loved our time in the Dorr Mountain yurt. Incredibly spacious, stocked with all cooking needs, and thoughtful touches making the space super cozy. Highly recommend!

Yes for Yurt

We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful out yurt and the property were. Anything we needed was there. Comfortable beds and bedding, hot water and good water pressure, a community fire pit, chairs and picnic tables for morning coffee, games and cards- it was a perfect way to be comfortable in nature. We will stay again the next time we visit Maine!

Perfect home base

We loved our stay at Acadia Yurts! It was the most ideal spot for all the places we wanted to visit. A easy drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor and also very close to the quieter side of Acadia. The other reviews are true- the shower is amazing after a long day out hiking! We are already trying to get family to go and stay. Highly recommend just booking it!

Great getaway spot in close proximity to Acadia NP!

The Dorr Mountain yurt was the perfect getaway spot that was close to Acadia National Park. The yurt was well stocked with easy access to additional items such as onsite laundry. The yurt was clean and comfortable for our family of four. Communication from the owner was great.

Magical home base for Acadia

We had the loveliest time staying in our yurt. The kids said it was the coolest place they have ever stayed. Such a magical vibe. So peaceful. Incredible sky views. It was a perfect home base for exploring Acadia and bar harbor!

Best Family Vaca!

Acadia Yurts is just what we needed to reset and relax before the business of the school year begins! This simple way of living in the most quaint town in Maine with water and mountains 5 minutes away had everything we needed. Karen and Aaron have quite the operation going and have inspired us to downsize in our own home and enjoy the little things more! The yurt was larger than expected and had all the amenities we could ask for, even beach towels! I cannot say enough amazing things about this magical spot in the woods. We will be back and am already recommending to friends! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Amazing stay - highly recommend!

This was a perfect landing spot for our family’s first vacation with our 7-week-old. We were able to easily access Acadia National Park and the nearby downtown of Southwest Harbor was adorable. The yurt was clean, comfortable, and had everything you could dream of needing for a vacation stay. We even utilized the lobster pot one evening to steam our own fresh lobster thanks to great recommendation from the owners Aaron and Karen. A perfect stay!!

Fantastic Vacation

We had a great time staying at Acadia Yurts! Our yurt was immaculate when we arrived, cleaner than many hotel rooms. Lots of nice touches, such as a laundry basket, storage shelves and baskets, cleaning products, and even a little step stool in the bathroom for the kids. Convenient to Southwest Harbor but away from the crowds of Bar Harbor.

Must stay

A yurt vacation is a bucket list item and if you’re going to do it, this is the place. Our hosts were the best and literally were available for anything we needed, even when we requested last minute flashlights so we could hike Cadillac Mountain in the dark to arrive a sunrise (another bucket list item and must do). The location was ideal for both enjoying Acadia and all it has to offer as well as proximity to all 3 harbors. Every recommendation they had for food and activities was spot on. Oh…and eat at Beal’s…best seafood on MDI. Thanks for a vacation to remember and we’ll definitely be back.

Cozy glamping

We enjoyed the yurt and its location a great deal. Karen greeted us in person, and Aaron and Karen take good care of the properties and guests. The yurt has all the necessities and the decor is simple and elegant; everything was comfortable and convenient. Being in the woods in a cabin-like yurt fit right into the spirit of our hiking vacation. The location was perfect for us. We liked staying in Southwest Harbor with its small downtown. It had a handful of wonderful local restaurants and shops, away from the heavily commercialized Bar Harbor area. Conveniently, there was a grocery store just over 5 min away, and several feet outside of the yurts, you step onto roads going through the woods of Acadia Park. I enjoyed going on morning runs there a few times. Some of the hikes we went on were only a few minutes’ drive from the yurts. We would go back in a heartbeat to the area and to Acadia Yurts.

Everything we needed & more!

Aaron & Karen are awesome and know how to ensure guests are relaxed, comfortable, and taken care of! The yurt was a fantastic way to be "comfortably" close to nature, easy access to EVERYTHING Acadia offers, and all the little considerations were evident. The property is wonderful, the water pressure from every faucet/shower was AMAZING, and even the sound machine to ensure the birds didn't wake us too early was a lovely and useful surprise! HIGHLY RECOMMEND to any family traveling to the area that wants to "camp" without camping!

Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others.

Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen has been teaching yoga locally for over 6 years and now brings her practice to the Wellness Center (located on site at Acadia Yurts). Karen is also a licensed massage therapist and offers services onsite.

As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!
