Formally a medieval hunting lodge, 'Ta Torri' is now a private villa, lovingly restored to provide simple accommodation surrounded by beautiful gardens.
The colonnaded path down the garden is one of only three remaining on the island and is just one of the features that makes Ta Torri truly unique. Surrounded by high walls, the villa affords complete privacy for sunbathing, swimming and outdoor dining.
The villa is situated on the outskirts of Mqabba, a quiet and beautiful Maltese village. It remains almost entirely free from tourists, unscarred from modern development, providing a ‘real’ Maltese experience.

Had a fantastic week at Ta Torri! It is a lovely house in beautiful surroundings, the house is very comfortable and the gardens and pool are peaceful and a wonderful place to spend time. Mqabba is a lovely little town and we definitely recommend eating at Bottegin del Teatro, the food was delicious and the owner was very welcoming. Would happily recommend staying at Ta Torri!
The photos really don’t do it justice, we absolutely loved staying at Ta Torri.
We visited during a very hot spell and were grateful for air conditioned bedrooms! There’s so much space, great when travelling with extended family. Thank you Richard, we will be back I’m sure!
Ta Torri is an amazing, spacious, comfortable (and slightly quirky!) villa with fabulous walled gardens containing a pool and an array of plants including olives and limes.
Conveniently located for the airport and within easy reach of attractions such as Valetta and Mdina, but also a great place just to laze around soaking up the sun, swimming in the pool and having long, late evening meals at the huge stone table in the courtyard.
The property is prepared to a high standard and the owners are great to deal with. Highly recommended!
We loved our stay and would like to book again for 2024.
Welcoming, comfortable and beautiful gardens and lovely sunny courtyard. Slightly off the beaten track which is all to the good but still easy to get everywhere.
The villa was a wonderful location for our family to gather and enjoy a well earned break together.
The place is magical.
There are hidden places all over the grounds and lots of peaceful places to sit in the sun or the shade.
The area is a brilliant place to explore the island and hopefully we will come back one day to enjoy the his magical abode again.
We had a great time staying here at this unique property. We spent all of our waking hours there enjoying the garden. It is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the Maltese weather. We enjoyed the pool and the boules but our favourite place was the outdoor sitting area. The local village has everything you need and its not far to get to the attractions. A very special property and I would highly recommend.

A truly exotic and unique place to stay
The property is amazing! Full of it's own history, it gave us the feeling of an authentic Maltese experience without having to set foot outside the walls. The courtyard is beautifully maintained and the pool was great to help keep cool. The owner does a fabulous job of making sure you've made yourself at home. Don't expect your typical living quarters as the kitchen is separate from the main building, and one of the rooms is it's own separate apt on the other side of the courtyard, but it all adds up to what makes this property so attractive and special. Would definitely stay here again!
We had a wonderful stay at Ta Torri. The uniqueness, character and history of the property made this a wonderful place to stay and the space and the beautiful gardens were stunning. There was so much space to relax and enjoy the gardens. The property was well equipped and the water cooler a real bonus especially during a heatwave. Air con in bedrooms was great and even when it broke down in one bedroom Robert the caretaker was very attentive and got us sorted. Communication and information before our stay was excellent and the location quiet but close to airport and also an ideal base for touring the island with a rental car. Overall we had a great stay in a very unique and lovely property and would highly recommend
Ta Torri exceeded all of our expectations. It was a wonderful place to spend time with our grown up children because it is big enough to have space but be together. The history and grandness of the villa let you feel like you truly were a wealthy family living the good life. We all had an amazing time. Mqabba is a quiet but very friendly village with a good bus service to the main areas. We did not need a car. Two weeks was not long enough.
The photos do not do this amazing house justice. It is simply stunning.
We’ve been very fortunate to have enjoyed some fabulous holidays, but this honestly was one of the best.
The house is full of character, spotlessly clean and fully equipped to make it a stress free holiday.
Robert was amazing and always on hand to help with a couple of very minor issues that we had.
The only thing I would suggest is take your mosquito repellent!!!
The local village is a 5 minute walk away and we were made so welcome.
We are already planning our next visit.

Fantastic hunting lodge and location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at ta torri, beautiful house, Tower and gardens, lovely village and the locals were very friendly and helpful. Only four of us stayed in the end as the Maltese friends who were coming for the weekend let us down.
My son and his girlfriend stayed in the tower which was totally private for them, the shower did flood the first night but Richard was there the next day as soon as we called him and sorted the blocked drain. A couple of minor points couldn't get the oven working after first day, TV wasn't working as no aerial lead, could do with a new steam iron.
Otherwise will be back next year, loved it, thank you.
The property was absolutely perfect for us. We were a party of 8 (comprising 6 adults and 2 children). The accommodation provided us with an accessible room for an older member of our party as well as plenty of space for everyone to do as they wished during the day, but come together in the evening for meals and socialising. The villa was perfectly positioned for us to do the sightseeing that we wanted but equally the small town of Mqabba had everything that we needed. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. Contact with the owner was also helpful and the information pack left at the property was great. We even added a card for a local restaurant that was recommended to us and we thoroughly enjoyed on our last night! It was lovely to learn about the history of the property and to see the photographs too. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful villa. We had a fanstastic holiday and definitely hope to return in the future.
Seven of us stayed at Ta Torri in the first week of May. The photographs on the website accurately convey the historic charm of the villa and tower room, and the beauty of the courtyard and garden. Updates to the kitchen and bathrooms provided all the comforts we needed.
The layout of the villa is a bit idiosyncratic, but groups of family or friends should not have any issues. Given the time of year, the pool temperature was a little cool so there were only some brief dips. But it’s a scenic place for lounging.
We chose to manage without a car. Walking, buses, and the reasonably-priced Uber allowed us to get to all the places of interest we wanted (Valletta, Mdina, Birgu, Dingli Cliffs, etc).
We loved the village and were happy to be in a quiet spot where we appeared to be the only tourists. Greengrocers and the Maypole convenience store were only minutes away. All the people we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. When we waited at the wrong bus stop, locals stopped and offered advice. English plus our few words of Maltese took us wherever we needed to go.
We hope to be back.
Ta Torri Spero is a beautiful place to spend a Maltese vacation! There were 8 of us adults for 3 weeks, each with our own room; 3 couples in the main house and 1 in the tower apartment. This house is very unique and we loved it! We all would meet at the outside dining table to plan our days trips and eat our meals. We barely used the indoor living room although it was large and comfortable, we found the outdoor seating space worked the best for us. There were no issues with having the kitchen detached from the main house, above it is a great viewpoint! The rooms were comfortable and house had everything we needed.
The gardens were just breathtaking, it was such a beautiful view to walk into everyday, so spacious and was very private. The pool was perfect for 8 of us, we utilized it almost everyday. It’s elevated from ground level and over 5 feet deep across the entire pool, so we put our pool floats to use and relaxed on the patio loungers.
The Mqabba village was so welcoming. We went to 3 local bars, and there were 3 grocery stores that you could get the basic groceries and supplies at. The local butcher was a great place also.
We did have minor issues with the kitchen air conditioning not working for a few days and a small shower door leak that was fixed quickly by Robert, the caretaker. The tower apartment had a few bugs that were annoying within the first week , nothing we couldn’t handle ourselves.
I would absolutely stay here again, thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Amazing house, even better gardens.
A stunningly beautiful and historic Palazzo, with all the outside space anyone could want, and plenty of character and comfort too. The photos really don't do justice to the amount of space there is, both house and gardens.
The main house is beautifully cool, kitchen very well equipped and everything works! Hurrah! Water pressure (often a bit soft in Malta, for obvious reasons) is good in both bathrooms and kitchen. Upstairs two walk-through double bedrooms and two from a hall (one with ensuite bathroom) all good.
The Tower room (which is actually on the ground floor of the tower, so no stairs) is very smart with a tiptop large new bathroom with huge shower stall, and plenty of room.
In spite of proximity to airport and nearby quarries Ta Torri is so peaceful, we really were not troubled by noise, apart from the obligatory bangs of the Maltese testing their fireworks, which we loved.
The gardens and courtyard are the star. Huge, full of the most beautiful flowers and scents, oranges, birdsong - just Heaven.
To sum up, thoroughly recommended. We would certainly book again. Thank you to the owners for letting others enjoy the magic of Ta Torri.
This is an extraordinary place of great historic interest, set in a large and beautiful garden. We felt very lucky to be there.
Ta Torri’s honey-coloured stone rooms sprawl over two wings and are connected to an 18th century tower wing by an enormous walled garden. The pool is ingeniously framed in limestone and fits perfectly into the formal surroundings. When we were there hibiscus, bougainvillea and plumbago were in full flower, and there are plenty of individual seating areas arranged amongst the blossoms and trees. It’s perfect either for a large group to get together, or to split up and find shady corners away from each other!
We had no contact with local housekeeping or management as there was no need, but I imagine they are extremely efficient as everything was clean and in very good repair.
One useful touch is a constant supply of chilled water from a kitchen water dispenser, eliminating the need to stagger back from the supermarket with endless heavy 6-packs.
Parking was easy, bang outside the house in a broad, quiet street. Ta Torri is very well placed for getting quickly either to Valletta or to the nearby coastal inlets at Zurrieq and Ghar Lapsi.
Communications with owner Richard Jackson were super-swift and very helpful,
Overall we had a gloriously happy and luxurious time in a lovely place, and have in fact made a booking for next year to cheer us up as we were leaving.
It took us a while to find the villa - a few wrong turns and driving up a one way, the wrong way through village but that was completely our fault, the directions were good. We were stunned at the unusual property. The pictures really do not give you a true sense of the accommodation. The whole property was exceptionally clean and the grounds well maintained. It was good to see the property through the years in pictures and files around the house and the family that have worked hard to repair, renovate and maintain this historic villa. Robert was on hand if we needed anything at all. We took our time to explore the property and how it would work for our party. The tower room is lovely and the bedrooms in the main house really comfortable but you do have to think logistics as the main stairs give immediate access to two bedrooms but you would have to walk through them and the bathroom to get to the other two unless you take the very narrow spiral staircase from the lounge, which we mastered in no time. The villa is really central and it seemed like we were just 20 minutes away from wherever we wanted to go. If you want to holiday in Malta and don't want bog standard then Ta Torri is for you. Go with an open mind and open heart and it will embrace you. Thank you Richard and Robert, we will be back

Incredible Adventure in a historical Building
We, as a family of 5 adults, have to report about a phantastic week over Eastern 2019 in an marvelous building named Ta Torri.
The location is perfect to reach all highlights (Shops, Touristic Scenery, La Valetta, etc.) on a short way. Even Ta Torri is closed to the airport you can't hear the traffic because of thick walls of the building and high walls around the garden.
The garden is beautiful for relaxing and chilling. Different zones invite for individual purpose even if there are more than 5 nobody will disturb the other if not intended. A perfect big table to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner and barbecue. An additional highlight is the pool.
Inside this historical place we could find a well equipped kitchen (incl. dish washer, washing machine, gas oven and all necessary things of daily needs. and very clean!
The dome built living room is very spacious and we could enjoy a lot, equipped with a great table and 2 sofas and 2 lounge chairs. Additionally installed laying corners invites for relaxing. TV and a gas heater complete the decor.
Even the bed rooms in the first floor and the separate apartment are beautiful and very clean. Different bathrooms could be used so again, nobody will annoy the others. All rooms are equipped with air cons.
Margret as the host and Matilde & Robert as the local manager are very friendly and will help whenever necessary.
For sure, if we will come back to the beautiful island Malta at any time, we will stay in TA TORRI !
We stayed at Ta Torri for the last 5 days of May and the first 5 of June - after the first two days temperatures jumped sudenly to 35 degrees or so, so we were very grateful for the swimming pool - beautifully maintained - which kept us comfortably cool. But it was rather too hot for us to make as much use of the table tennis table as we had intended.
The house itself is unique of course, and we felt extremely lucky to have found such a gorgeous and historic property to use for ten days. The garden is especially beautiful, boasting a boules area as well as swimming pool (with masses of recliners near to it) and table tennis table. The plans and descriptions provided are very accurate. It must be said that living in a converted 16th/17th century hunting lodge does need a few compromises - yes, the kitchen is on the other side of the courtyard to the living room; yes - the main staircase leads to a bedroom, which leads to another bedroom, which leads to a bathroom, which leads to the landing, with garigor (servants' spiral staircase), and yes - we didn't find it easy to locate the light switches and might have needed a torch if we'd arrived in the dark.
Having said all that, the four of us felt very lucky to have stayed here. It's amazingly well equipped - no shortage of glasses and crockery when we entertained the extended family (19 in all) one evening; very effective air conditioning and lovely strong showers in all the bathrooms; Richard always available to sort out problems - e.g. no hot water in the kitchen, garden lights not working.
The only issue for us was the mattresses. We found all four doubles and two singles at the property soft; three of us didn't sleep comfortably, but we appreciate that some people might like soft mattresses.
Ta Torri has been in our family since it was purchased by our grandfather 'TM' in 1968. Empty and desolate, it’s restoration is now complete, providing simple accommodation in extensive and beautiful gardens.
Why they chose this property
A 'guest pack' originally written by TM provided a few sentences that hinted of his love for Malta, he says: “For many years I cast around in my mind for that one place on earth where I would find PEACE and which fulfilled the good things I had grown used to. As time wore on Spain dimmed and Malta had cast its spell. Enveloped in history and mystery, (there is) no place quite like it.”
