About this property

Fisherman's Cottage in the harbour heart of Port Isaac

Our cottage, Choughs, is a very good-value, self-catering holiday home, ideal for up to THREE ADULTS or TWO ADULTS & TWO CHILDREN and located right in the heart of the old village by the harbour in a narrow, traffic-free street. It is a traditional fisherman's cottage, with layout and dimensions reflecting its 19th-century heritage.

Port Isaac is a 700-year-old fishing village, nestling between the cliffs on the rugged north Cornwall coast. It has been welcoming tourists for years but retains a quaint and uncommercialised charm. Recently, it has been widely admired as the beautiful setting for TV series Doc Martin and the film The Shell Seekers. It is the home of Outlaw's New Road, the successor venue to Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, which was rated the best restaurant in Britain by the Good Food Guide 2018, while the chef's other venue in Port Isaac, Outlaw's Fish Kitchen, is just around the corner from the cottage. There are several other great places to eat. Port Isaac is also an ideal base from which to visit Padstow, Rock, the beaches at Polzeath and Daymer Bay, Tintagel Castle and the National Trust's Lanhydrock House and Gardens. The Eden Project, St Michael's Mount and Tate St Ives are all within easy reach by car.

Great Location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Choughs Cottage. It is steps away from the lovely harbor that we saw for years on Doc Martin but thought we’d never see in

Our Venture to Port Isaac
We loved the quaintness of the cottage. It had all we needed for our stay. After a day of exploring it was nice to come ‘home’ to sit in the living room by the fire and have a cuppa tea. Would love to go back again some day as our time was too short. The owner was wonderful and responsive to us throughout our stay. Thank you!

Sweet Cottage in Convenient Location
Enjoyed the cottage immensely including some of the quirks of the electrical and water heating systems. Quiet street except for the gulls. Would recomment.

Tiny with everything
This is someone's home so it is chock full of furniture and the cupboards are laden with everything you may need. Comfortable enough, with steep steps to the two upper levels. A happy place to stay. It was left cleaner than found, despite the poor vacuum. Lovely location. Enjoyed amazing coastline scenery, walks, places to visit, plenty of good eateries, and fresh seafood available. Major downside, sadly, Port Isaac is heaving with dogs, and the consequences.

Lovely Fisherman's Cottage
The cottage is right in the heart of Port Isaac which is a stunning fishing village packed with history. Its definitely small but has everything you could need. It's been very well thought out. The location is outstanding and we enjoyed eating in the various local restaurants and pubs all within walking distance. The owner was very helpful and informative and we felt the whole process was stress free. There is a lot to do locally. Without driving you can do boat trips, coasteering, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and eating out. Should you drive its a great location for various towns, villages and beaches. I would not recommend it for anyone who struggles with steep steps or walking up hills or for anyone who wants to cook big meals at home very evening but for us it was perfect!

Cheough Cottage Fantastic location The cottage is very tired and in need of refurbishment. Shabby and uncomfortable furniture. Walls need repainting and very dirty in lots if areas. However this did not spoil our staycation

Needs a good clean
We booked expecting a lovely cottage and it was a very dated tired cottage. The advertising says it’s been deep cleaned due to covid .. the cleaner needs re training then because we found dust and dirt everywhere. Blood on the cupboard door in the bathroom. I did contact the owner who told me the cleaner came before the handyman who must have cut himself. The bed oh my God it dipped badly in the middle and the head end was lower than the foot end. No good if you have acid reflux . The first morning my husband was having a reaction to the feather pillows that had seen better days ( 10 years ago) so we brought more pillows and put the pillow cases on them only to find horrible yellow stains on the feather pillow pillow protectors. I left the cottage cleaner than I found it. Every picture and plate was cleaned with an anti bacterial wipe and the banister rail ( you should see the video) was disgusting light switches were dirty too ... all the places people touch should be super clean but we’re not. The owner should make spot checks because this was disappointing. We paid A lot of money for one week in a place that I had to clean and didn’t get one nights good sleep

Charming and Convenient
No view but an absolutely convenient location. The tiny front garden was pretty in pink and I longed for a small bistro table and chair to sit there. Small and charming. Perfect for my 10 night solo stay in early September. I would gladly rent Chough Cottage again. You won’t want to lug any suitcase larger than a carryon size upstairs to the bedrooms. BYO bath soap and shampoo and dish sponge/cloth.

Choughs Cottage
Had a very enjoyable stay in Port Isaac at Choughs cottage. It’s a quaint Fisherman’s cottage set close to the harbour & handy for places to eat & drink. Only downside is’s very tired & needs updating, especially the kitchen/living area. Bathroom ok but shower not great. Bedrooms decent size & more than enough room for 2, may be a bit tight for more than that though.

Lovely location, pretty garden.
Port Isaac lovely place to stay. The Cottage is in a great location for the harbour and the front garden makes you think you are going into a lovely place. But the furniture, fixtures and fittings are very tired and need attention in the following areas. New bedding and bed - the main bed is only 4ft, people would expect at least 4ft 6in. The towels are very worn as is the bedding and duvet. The bathroom was good. The lounge/kitchen is generally poor. The settee are uncomfortable, the kitchen sink and cupboards need replacing. The washing up bowl was particularly unpleasant. There were no additional grey bags so we had to bring our rubbish home as the one left for us had to be used for the last visitors rubbish. Unfortunately we will not either recommend this holiday property or be revisiting it.

Cosy
Very pretty, clean cottage. The upstairs bedrooms were light and very spacious. Well furnished and equipped, plenty of hangers, sockets, mirrors and lighting. Bathroom ,..plenty of room and bright. Downstairs had everything kitchen, dining and lounge ,all in the one room ,so it appeared very crowded. Front outside area very pretty and well planted up. It would have been nice to have had a small bistro type set there to sit at ,instead of the garden wall. The back area wasn’t suitable for sitting outside in as several bins were permanently there. This was the only problem....our bin was almost full on arrival, and despite putting it where requested, each night,it mysteriously found its way back overnight and was never emptied. The weather was very warm and sunny so we opened back and front doors to cool house down.....stable doors would have been preferable but not essential. Again the kitchen was well equipped, lots of sockets downstairs too and plenty of lights. The local booklets on Port Isaac we’re super. A lovley find right in the centre of Port Isaac....couldn’t have been more ideal. Walks from cottage plentiful. Eating places in PortIsaac and Port Gaverne good and plentiful...a week wasn’t long enough to sample all of them. For info, there is now a seasonal snack wagon in the PortQuin car park.

Beautiful charming unspoiled cottage in a tranquil environment. Totally relaxing.
Beautiful little gem of a cottage, tucked away just off the harbour. Very peaceful and relaxing, but close to all the various outlets that Port Issac has to offer. Total relaxation, best holiday for a very long time!

Small and cosy at a very pittoresk village
We, a couple, had a beautiful time with sunny weather, fantastic landscapes and stay in a cosy cottage at the harbour. There are very good restaurants and pubs - we will come back.

Lovely place for the price
Found this to be just as described, it is quite small but we're just a couple. Had a lovely stay here in May probably quieter than later in summer. Bed was comfy, shower good and wifi good. Had a slight issue with the dustbin but these things happen, owner has a local housekeeper who helped out. Very close tot he harbour – just round the corner. And Port Isaac is so charming. Really great for the price.

Had a wonderful week at Choughs cottage
This cottage is perfect for two & and an ideal base for walking & exploring. There are some very good eating places just a few yards from Choughs so leaving the car at the top of Port Isaac was not a problem for us at all. The 10 minute coastal walk to pick up the car was a lovely way to start the day if you wanted to go exploring further from the village. Although small the cottage was very clean & cosy on the chillier evenings & was a lovely homely place to return to at the end of a day spent walking. We hope it won"t be too long before we can visit again.

Great place ,great cottage for two , don't complain about things like car parking etc if you have already been told about the cottage from the owners. Recommended , Frank and wendy
