The house is well equipped and the owner has invested in modern conveniences. The listing says that the beds are king but they are actually queens (this may be a nomenclature issue between the UK and the US ). The 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor are perfect for couples; both en-suite with beautiful bathrooms and a tv in each room. The upstairs rooms (we were 3 retired couples) would be perfect for a younger couple with children.
The location is remote so you must have a car there are many local vineyards with wine-tasting and an e-bike tour in St Emillion were favorites. We had a couple of minor maintenance issues that keep this
from being an5 star review
We had a great time at Le Bonheur. There were 5 adults and 5 children ranging from 10-2 years in our family group. The property had everything we needed; well equipped kitchen and a vast collection of dvd’s to keep the children entertained in the evenings.
The pool area is ideal, near to the house and is surrounded by beautiful flowers and has an amazing view and is very peaceful.
Brilliant location for sight seeing and markets. Good supermarkets close by. The local boulangerie has fantastic bread.
The house book was great (the best we have seen) Shirley sent it to us digitally a week before which was very useful. It’s contains useful info about the property but also excellent directions and different routes to down to le Bonheur and for various day trips, plus recommendations for nearby restaurants and markets.
Shirley was great with any questions we had. Would recommend and would love to go back!
The holiday home was lovely beautiful house. Victoria was amazing with any issues that arose. The pool was amazing beautiful outlook. Sadly weather was not all in our favour but we made the most of it.
A few things I would be aware off. The neighbours do have 6 dogs . Not too
Noisy but when they do all start it can be very noisy as you can imagine.
The house has everything you can think off . Very clean flowers and gardens all kept beautifully.
Brilliant location for visiting local towns.
We were visiting with a family of five with teen children for two weeks. We had a lovely time exploring the area and enjoying the pool. The property is very spacious and has everything you need with a large garden and pool.
The information we received from the host beforehand was extremely helpful and self explanatory, this made it very easy for us to check in, find what we needed it the house and outside area.
Overall we had a great stay in this fantastic house and in this peaceful area!
Our holiday could not have been any more perfect staying at Le Bonheur near the village of Duras in France. What a wonderful holiday house with fantastic accommodation and fabulous views. Le Bonheur has all the facilities you could wish for, comfortable and relaxing with a great swimming pool. Plenty to do in the area was an added bonus. Highly recommended!
Beautiful property in a lovely position with views across to the local village, surrounded by vineyards and glorious countryside.
The house was very spacious and remained cool with 33 degree temp outside.
Has everything you need for a really wonderful stay.
We loved the welcoming wine and Victoria the housekeeper was lovely and positive.
We were sad to leave
We've just come back from a 2-week stay at the house.
Everybody was completely amazed at the facilities and quality, you can really tell the owners put time and effort, not to mention the considerable expense, into it.
We had two elderly mothers in their 70's, two teenagers and two Jack Russells, so quite a mix to cater for!
The house really lived up to expectations. It's in a very tranquil location and gave us plenty of time to unwind.
It's equipped with everything you need, I think this is the only holiday in about 20 years that we've not had to buy something that wasn't provided.
We all loved chilling out by the pool and having a glass of wine on the patio in the evening. Plus the dogs really loved their walks around the area once the heat had gone from the day.
Also a shout out to Victoria the housekeeper who was a real help when we had some health issues with one of the mums.
Thanks very much for a lovely stay.
What a terrific location Les Cerisiers was for our first holiday abroad since Covid. The accommodation was excellent as was the garden and pool. Duras and Monsegur provided all we could want in terms of history, markets, shopping and restaurants. A fabulous return to France and a reminder to return again soon!
A beautiful family friendly place to stay, plenty of comfortable beds and bathrooms for everyone. Every little detail had been thought about. The pool was perfect and we spent many hours splashing in the sunshine! We visited the market in the local town of Duras, however we preferred Eymet for midday lunches taking a break from the sunshine. The crepes were amazing! It was a lovely walk to get fresh croissants in the local village each morning. Those that were morning energetic enjoyed a bike ride through the Dordogne hills. Thank you, we’ve had a perfect French holiday!
Villa as described in the advertising. Comfortable bedrooms and lovely large kitchen. We loved the pool and spent a lot of time in there as the weather was very hot. Nice patio area by the property kitchen to get together and eat.
One big thing missing was air con especially in the bedrooms. Nice local villages to enjoy a stroll and the evening markets with pop up restaurants. A trip to St Emilion was a must for us. Lovely town.
The property is in a fabulous location, rural yet within 10 minutes of the town of Duras with shops, markets and its Castle. Also day trips to Bordeaux, Saint Emilion and Bergerac. The property was immaculate on arrival, and is supplied with everything you need for cooking, games or just relaxing. The views across the valley from the pool to the local village is great. A really fantastic property.
I would highly recommend this property. It is suitable for couples, families and 2 families holidaying together. It is extremely well appointed, and I n a great location . Shirley is a wonderful host who provided all the necessary information. I couldn’t fault this property, it is very highly recommended.
We had a great time. The location is amazing and the owners were super helpful especially navigating the complexity of the COVID situation and also very accommodating when we asked for help. The guide to the local area was also very useful and enhanced our stay. There were one or two small things that needed attention during the stay and the owners and the housekeeper were both fantastic in addressing which helped us have a relaxing stay. We didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend.

Amazing Location and Beautiful Property
We had a wonderful family (6 adults,2 teens and 2 kids) experience this spring at "La Bonheur", the main points we really enjoyed were:
- Location, Location, Location - The location of the house in the middle of rolling hills of vines and with small very light trafficked streets is perfect! I'm sure is what everyone would expect traveling to Bordeaux.
- The Barn - The house is very well kept, all the possible kitchen instruments to cook amazing meals and everything perfectly clean and properly maintained. "La Bonheur" is a great example on how a vacation rental should be. Manuals, details and area guide very well compiled. The number of rooms to bathroom ratio works great for larger groups.
Shirley! Thank you so much for having us in your house! We are going to be back!

Third visit and just as heavenly
We know, and now love, Le Bonheur as this was our third stay at the property. So why are we so addicted? It's really a home from home - lots of personal touches, plenty of books to read, really comfortable beds, lovely bathrooms, super family-style kitchen and an amazing pool. Then there's the tranquil location - super quiet with just the village church bell to remind you that time is slipping by. And we love the view across the vineyards (and sunflowers if you visit in the summer months) and up to the village. We love the area too - you can't get much better in terms of accessibility to the wine country and we have really got into biodynamic wine which is a fast growing wine approach across the region. So stay here - you'll love it!

Fantastic property, wonderful holiday!
My family and I recently spent two weeks at La Bonheur and what a wonderful holiday we had! La Bonheur is very much a home from home with everything you could possibly need. It easily accommodated our two families with plenty of space for us all. The outdoor space is excellent, with a fabulous pool, alarmed giving us peace of mind having small children around.
Shirley was fantastic, communicating with me at all times and very helpful providing very detailed information about the house and region before our arrival. Whilst Victoria, the housekeeper, was super friendly and incredibly helpful once we were in France.
The house is located in a very small village which meant that we had a very relaxing break in and around the house. We regularly visited a few of the local towns, Duras and Monsegur, both less than a 10min drive with good supermarkets.
There are an abundance of local vineyards to visit with great tasting and tours to be had and fantastic wine to be tasted and bought! We also visited a couple of night markets which are such a lovely experience and well worth doing. Another favourite evening was spent at Domaine du Grande Mayne, where they hold a bbq event every Friday evening throughout the summer holidays. Here you get to drink wine, eat fantastic food and listen to great music whilst the sun sets on the vineyards that surround you.
None of us would hesitate to return La Bonheur, or this region of France, we had such a wonderful experience.

Fabulous!
We just loved staying here for two weeks. The house is beautiful and pool fantastic. The views across the vines and the starling displays at sunset made this place special. Could not recommend it more highly. Thank you.

Fantastic, it's obvious a lot of thought has gone into the building, surounds and facilities
We had pool days and days out, the house proved excellent for both . With nine in our party including six children, the house has enough, well thought out space to cater for Adults, Teens and younger children at the same time. lots of areas to spread into and to keep an eye on the pool from.
Bedrooms range from excellent for adults and functional for children, the lounge is great & the teens in our group loved the TV, DVD's and especially the good WIFI! Bags of information in the house book on the local area and the house itself, on the days that we took excursions the house was a pleasure to return to & as we were lucky with the weather, on went the pool lights to squeeze in a late dip.
I've stayed in quite a number of houses throughout the Dordogne and have found that there always seems to be a compromise (a small bedroom or ill equipped kitchen etc.) I found the house to be the best so far and would be hard pressed to find a fault, Thank You.

Wonderfully relaxed fortnight at Le Bonheur
We opted for a two week stay so that various family members could fly in and out for differing periods of time. Should have made it three, or four, or..........
As each new person arrived their reaction was identical to that of ours when we arrived early Saturday evening having driven all day from the UK : "stunning, pretty, tranquil and identical to the photographs (which doesn't always prove to be true)"
Everything one needs to survive a fortnight in this part of France - corkscrew, glass, and bottles of red (two of which along with two white were awaiting our arrival) were all there. The property is finished to a high standard and equipped fully throughout, there never being an occasion when we needed a utensil or piece of equipment which wasn't provided. The kitchen was fantastic for such a large group and there's plenty of space and seating to eat and relax.
Any questions, queries, assistance or information can be readily gleaned from the very useful house book (copy at the property as well as one being sent out prior to arrival) or from Victoria the housekeeper, a very nice lady who can't do enough to help.
Taking advice from the owner's house book, we can highly recommend the boulangerie in nearby Taillecavat only a twenty minute walk along the edges of the vineyard from Le Bonheur for breakfast croissants and daily bread - whilst the local Carrefour Contact in Duras (ten minutes by car) has everything one might need nothing beats freshly made local bread and pastries.
Further afield Bordeaux (an hour and ten minutes in the car), and Bergerac (three quarters of an hour) provide bigger places to visit. The 'Cité du Vin' in Bordeaux is a must for wine lovers along with the plentiful number of local Chateaus which offer tours and dégustations - Chateau de Montbazillac just outside Bergerac and St Emillion are both close by.
Our party had a marvellous Sunday morning in Duras visiting the Chateau - experience the 'Whispering Room' - followed by lunch in the sun in the town square.
Most French towns have some form of market and the seasonal evening markets are another must see, combined with dinner before or after. The Bastide town of Eymet is always popular but is very pretty and worth the visit.
Would we stay at Le Bonheur again? Yes.
Is it good value for money? Yes.
Thank you to Shirley and Bill for all of your help, patience and advice in answering my correspondence in the build up to and during the stay.

Amazing property
The property had everything that we were looking for. Booking was very easy and the owners were more than helpful to ensure our time spent there went without any glitches. The house has everything that is stated in the listing, great heating (winter holiday), fantastic WiFi and great television systems for those relaxing evenings in front of a (huge) open fire. Ideally situated and close enough to local villages and towns. The property is set in an amazing elevated location with wonderful views of vineyards and the local surrounding countryside. My wife and I spent a whole month over the Christmas festive season at the property, so unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to experience the wonderful private swimming pool due to the winter climate. Although, I imagine it would be fantastic in the summer months. If you are looking to stay in a traditional French property with open wooden beams and superb surroundings then I would highly recommend this property to anyone. The historic town of Duras is roughly 7km away (as the crows fly) and here you can find everything you require such as; Bars, shops and restaurants. Bergerac is roughly 1 hours drive from the property, which has great shops and restaurants - a visit is highly recommended. In short, a wonderful month spent in a fantastic house with great surroundings. We would most certainly rent this property again in the future. Shirley and Bill we thank you. Steve and Jenny x
