About this property

Refurbished Stone-Built Farmhouse with Large Pool Set in 7 Acres

The house is a traditional early 19th century stone-built Girondine farmhouse set in 7 acres which is available to rent year-round. It has been fully refurbished, blending many traditional features with modern kitchen and bathrooms. It is not a gîte, but rather our second home.

*New for 2024* Large modern luxury kitchen with island and breakfast bar. New dining room. New terrace. New air conditioning in Master and Children's bedrooms (supplement on request)

Sleeps 9 (plus cot) and has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms plus separate WC.
The large, heated private 12 x 6m swimming pool is set in the midst of the garden with views over the adjacent meadow and surrounding mature woodland. Large converted 'play barn'.

The ultra-fast fibre broadband with wifi (up to 800 mbps - service dependant) means you can stay fully connected for work or films/games etc.

The house is situated in a small hamlet of 3 houses between the ‘bastide’ market towns of Monsegur and Sauveterre in the heart of the wine growing area of Entre deux Mers. It is approximately 35 minutes from St Emilion and 55 minutes from both Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. There is an ‘Auberge’ accessible via the woods (by adults and older children) with bakers, butchers, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets in the nearest two towns which are 5-10 minutes drive away.

Large gardens in a quiet rural area

We arrived assuming there would be a caretaker or something present but discovered we had never received an email giving us the key code, luckily was able to contact owner by phone via Vrbo app. Unfortunately the email had not been sent via the app. The Gite was good and pool excellent and games room spacious; we had no real problems or issues apart from a small problem with the pool cover which was very promptly dealt with and a bottle of wine left as compensation, a lovely thought. It’s a pity the bedroom downstairs with en-suite shower didn’t also have a WC and had to use the downstairs toilet (only 5 yards from bedroom). I think it always helps to have a floor plan so one can work out whether the bedroom mix works for your group make up. Bedroom doors are glass with net curtains but this doesn’t keep light out and we felt we had to leave corridor lights on with children in the house. Some rooms also had (small) windows without shutters or curtains which let light in early morning; but I’m one for blackout curtains and probably most people won’t find this a problem. We were rushed out at the end of our stay with a 09:30 checkout (even though during the week the gardener had said 10 was fine; apparently the owner was the next group staying and they were already on their way from the airport). We would have liked more time to clean properly. In summary it’s a good Gite very large gardens in a quiet very rural part of the country

Wonderful family holiday

We had a lovely family holiday in Rimons. The house was spacious, very clean and homely, and has a lovely outside area/pool and surrounding garden. The kitchen was very well equipped too and we made use of the great BBQ. The outside seating area offers some shade which was perfect for sitting outside at lunch time. Supermarket is very conveniently located a short drive away which had everything we needed. We also found it very easy to contact Richard and Lisa for any queries while we were at the house. Thanks again, we hope to come back soon!

Topper!

Stunning stay in the french countryside

A gorgeous stone farmhouse in a leafy secluded part of the countryside - with fantastic fig and apple trees. Accommodating owners, well equipped and comfortable house tastefully renovated. Beautiful pool to spend the day by and a lawn for many a round of cricket and boule. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

Post wedding relaxation

Nice family home.Loads of toys for small child.Sadly they forgot to leave linen for the small childs bed but managed using towels instead. Perfect for relaxing after our daughters wedding in Souliac a half hours drive from the property. Very friendly neighbour gave us some of her homegrown vegetables . Well stocked kitchen with every utensil you could ever want. All in all perfect for what we wanted. Some might find it too quiet especially if going for longer than a week

Excellent value for money and highly recommended

The house is splendid and spacious and provides every convenience. The ambiance is much enhanced by the owners choice of furnishings and effects - I particularly liked the array or sketches and other pictures. It is obvious that it is not just a soulless business but a loved second home. We had been concerned about the proximity of the pool to the house and the lack of fencing (because of an active two and a half year old) but in fact whilst being extremely convenient the pool is sufficiently separated from the house not to cause concern. Three families (ourselves and two sons with their partners and child) had ample room to be together but find our own space The situation is delightful being so quiet and peaceful that apart from shopping at the bastide towns of Monsegur and Sauveterre we never felt the need to leave the property except to go to La Reole for Sunday lunch. Though my daughter-in-law went up the lane and enjoyed an hour's horse riding. We had the property recommended to us by friends who stayed last year and we would not hesitate to recommend it ourselves, in fact have already sent details to a family member. The fact that one bedroom is downstairs and everything is on one level made life very easy for my blind husband and he adapted to the new place very quickly.

A wonderful holiday at La Billauderie!!

During the last two weeks of June we enjoyed a fantastic, relaxing holiday at La Billauderie.Everything about it was perfect and by the end of our stay we really felt ‘at home’.The farmhouse has been beautifully renovated, decorated to a very high standard and tastefully furnished. The fabulous pool and gardens are well maintained and in fact ,there were several days when we simply chose to stay at home and enjoy our peaceful surroundings. There are numerous books, dvds and games plus indoor table tennis and football if it’s raining but fortunately ,we had glorious weather ! We visited Montsegeur, St Emilion, and Castillon together with several markets, where you can buy locally sourced produce .The Super U at Sauveterre is excellent and only a 15 minute drive. Both our family, followed by our friends were equally impressed by this stunning rental property. We certainly intend to revisit in the future! Alan and Rosie

A well-loved, beautifully furnished and equipped house in a peaceful and picturesque setting.

We (a multi-generational family of six with two boys aged 10 and 6) had a wonderful stay here this summer. The house is just gorgeous; spacious, luxuriously furnished and with everything you need to make your stay easy and comfortable. The outside terrace where we ate our barbecued food most evenings was conveniently situated next to the kitchen, overlooking the swimming pool and the extensive grounds. This was perfect for us as we could relax, under the shade of the pergola on the terrace whilst the boys played around us or in the pool. We all had a lot of fun in the pool which was warm and a great size for all our many inflatables; hours were spent every day in there and I particularly enjoyed an early evening swim as the sun was setting. The boys (and men) enjoyed the games room with its football table and table tennis but our favourite outdoor games were cricket and football, with equipment provided for both sports. In the early mornings and evenings when it was slightly cooler, we ate and played games in the huge dining room and the boys watched films in the comfortable lounge. A good variety of board games, books and dvds were provided which delighted the boys. The owners of the house are very helpful, answering queries and providing good contact before and after the stay. They also left us a welcome bottle of local wine which we enjoyed very much - thank you! Whilst staying here we made trips to Eymet (about 30 mins drive away) and Bergerac (an hour away). Eymet was like a hidden treasure, having maintained its character and beauty, with a fountain in the main square and surrounded by good restaurants. Bergerac was equally beautiful but more touristy and we wouldn't recommend the town train which, as none of us can speak fluent French, was a disappointing half an hour. We also had a fun day out at a local tree-trekking and zip wire park (Accrozarbres) which was excellent value and particularly good for my eldest son who was tall enough to go on most of the courses. All in all this was the perfect start to our holiday and I wish we could have stayed longer. I really hope we will return in a future year and would definitely recommend this property for a medium-large family or families. Thank you.

Beautiful villa in stunning grounds

Had a fabulous week at villa La Billauderie. The stone farmhouse villa in Rimons is beautiful, it has been restored to a very high level whilst retaining all its character & many original features, the rooms are extremely spacious & fitted out with everything you need. The grounds are stunning, well kept with vast lawned areas & mature trees to shade you from the sun. The pool is lovely & was especially welcoming, we had full sun all week. We enjoyed the table tennis in the play barn & the visiting wildlife, a red deer popped out the woods one evening. This is the 2nd time we have been to this area, it didn't disappoint. We love the towns of Duras & Monsegur & the markets are great to visit. The whole area is lovely. Our son is a keen cyclist & he went for 30-60k rides each morning, it's quite hilly so good training. Would recommend the restaurant Effersanse at Chateau de Sanse, although 15-20 min in the car well worth a trip. Hope to return in the future Sue & Dale - Cheshire

Superb Property in Wonderful Location

Spent 10 fantastic relaxing days here in this rural location with family. The main house is spacious and set in a large area of land in the heart of the vine growing area. It has been tastefully restored to a very high standard, and with every facility provided including baby items. A second building has been transformed into a large games room; darts, table tennis, etc. The large heated pool is perfect for both children and adults, with plenty of sun loungers and total privacy. There are several villages in the local area with markets, restaurants, cafes and shops. Large supermarkets, and larger towns, are 15-20 minutes away. I have recommended this property to friend and family, and look forward to returning again myself. Gary and Sheila R.

Fantastic property

I spent three weeks at this property with my family in September and had a fantastic time. The ages of our group ranged from a 5 month old baby to people in their 60s and it really suited everyone perfectly. The property is beautiful, set in wonderful surroundings; it is very well maintained and feels very much like a home rather than a holiday house. It is equipped with absolutely everything, from highchair, steriliser and cot for baby to every piece of kitchen equipment one could wish for when cooking, BBQ'ing or baking. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, affording every guest a hotel-like experience, the pool is lovely and the BBQ/eating area is ideal, with a serving hatch through the kitchen and lovely views of the surroundings gardens. The house itself is very comfortable, with lovely sofas, open fire and a big dining table if you doesn't want to eat outside. The out-house with the table tennis proved to be very popular during a couple rainy days. The area is great for people wishing to drive around to see little french villages, enjoy the famous night markets, visit chateaux and vineyards. We found the owners to be very helpful and honest in their recommendations and willing to assist at any turn. A cleaner and groundsman regularly attended the property during our stay but not to the extent that we felt that our privacy was invaded. All in all a fantastic stay and we will certainly return. Thank you!

Home from home

Another wonderful week at this delightful property, having returned for a second stay in July. Relaxation guaranteed with acres of open space offset by the lavender bursts around the heated pool. The children particularly liked the barn with a new table tennis table, great for a break from the sun mid-afternoon. It's a peaceful haven, with comfortable beds (and pillows!), a well stocked kitchen for the budding chef and a garden full of fruit trees. We will be revisiting.

Lovely house, fantastic pool, superb area, great owners, helpful staff, perfect facilities, convenient shopping, good restaurants … and if this review causes anyone to pinch our spot for next year, I'll be really cross!!

Wonderful!

A wonderful place to stay. The accommodation was superb with everything a family could want for their holiday. Great swimming pool and a large outside eating area which we used all the time. Bedrooms roomy with comfortable beds and cool at night. Would recommend this to anyone who wanted a lazy, peaceful holiday.

We live in London and have three children.

Why they chose this property

When we looked at buying in France we were keen to buy somewhere that was within a day's drive of the Channel ports and well-served by airports . The area sells itself - it is green but with very warm temperatures in summer without the baking heat and Mistral of the south. Being in or close to a wine region was important to us (having St Emilion and Sauternes within 30-40 minutes in addition to the local wines is a real bonus). What sold the property was the combination of being away from a road, a beautiful stone-built building with almost too much space and a rural location where the children can play and explore as they get older.

What makes this property unique

The property is at the end of a lane and aside from the (solitary) neighbours there is no traffic. There is about 7 acres of land to explore - being mainly meadow and woodland. There are apple, cherry, plum, walnut and fig trees which provide a decent crop throughout the summer and autumn.
We have tried to keep the character of the original building whilst making a modern home to relax in. We love to cook and the large kitchen is equipped for the most demanding of cooks.
The ultra fast broadband means that you are still as connected as you want to be.
The pool is larger than average with a tiled surround for sunbeds with large parasols.
To shelter form the sun there is a barn containing a babyfoot table, table tennis table and a selection of bikes (on request). There are also football goals for use outside to keep the children busy.
