Great location shame it’s overlooked by road and neighbours.
We stayed here for 2 weeks in August with family and friends.
The location is lovely but it’s not very private as 2 other houses are very close and traffic from the road passes close by.
So we had expected more seclusion. The photos don’t show how close the villa is to the road or other houses.
The house itself is well fitted out and has a good large kitchen and the bedrooms upstairs are spacious with en-suite bathrooms that are fairly modern.
The pool was a great benefit as it was very hot weather but the area around the pool was in need of maintenance. The grout was missing and the pool cover was degraded so bits of plastic were falling off into the pool. The pool also started to go green in the last few days of second week of our stay !
There were an excess of tables and chairs outside but only one very tired sunlounger with a few basic deck chairs.
For a villa of this size this was an issue and disappointing.
Luckily we were pretty active so not in the villa that much.
I would also recommend the fans in some of the rooms were upgraded as two were so noisy squeaking and loud we could not sleep.
The views of the mountains were lovely and with a few simple updates like better fencing and therefore privacy and more sun loungers we would have rated it more highly.
Loved the area and the Mountain Views.
We were part of a group of bellringers visiting St Georges Church in Vernet Les Bains. Three of us also managed to get in an end of season ski in Andorra!
For a large group of friends this property was perfect. We were 8 but could easily cater for more.
The property was clean and very well appointed. Ample room for a large group to relax.
There is much to do in the area with easy access to the mountains, Andorra and Perpignan
I would definitely recommend this property.

Lovely house in lovely area
The villa was superb for a large family group, with lots of space and it is very well equipped. Pool was lovely. There is good walking in the area and the local tourist office was extremely helpful in finding them. Villefranche is 5 mins away by car - great place to go early evening after the coach tours have left! The Plage des Escoumes on the lake at Vinca , about half an hour away ,is fine if you have kids . Collioure , on the coast just over an hour away, is well worth a visit - good beach and great restaurants overlooking the harbour, and easy parking if you use the upper car parks and free shuttle bus.
I would highly recommend Villa Maple Rouge.

Spacious, clean, amazing views & homely vibe
A great place to relax, socialise and and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The kitchen dinning area is an amazing communal area where you can cook whilst remaining amidst the party. The bed room was comfy with the lovely French shutters you can throw open in the morning to drink in the beautiful views and mountain air. The cosy lounge has a wood burner and enough space to spread out after over indulging all things French. There are so many activities for adrenaline junkies, with winter sports, mountain biking, hiking, climbing etc and there is so much more, especially if like me you are not an adrenaline junkie. There are many historic towns & villages in easy reach with markets, cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy eating and drinking to your hearts content. We had an amazing meal at El Taller Restaurant nearby where we enjoyed excellent value, friendly service and the best of contemporary French cooking. Also a short drive away is the St Thomas Les Bains natural hot spring baths, float in the beautiful outdoor pool whilst taking in the breath taking mountain scenery. (they are proper hot) Also due to some strange French rule blokes have to wear budgie smugglers. The coast is in easy reach for a lovely day trip (we explored Collioure, a picturesque town with a castle where Matisse did some great paintings. For a holiday with so much to do on your door step but beautiful enough to stay and enjoy all the home comforts, this is a great place to base your holiday in unspoilt France.

Heerlijke villa

Great location
Beautiful scenery if you are looking for a quite location. Despite some hot wheater, the 500m elevation will always keep you cooled down with a light fresh breeze. The house is spacious and functional. Highly recommended if you don't mind being 45 min drive from the beach.

villa Maple Rouge
Excellent property for our week long break with our grown-up family and Grandchild. The property was well maintained, clean well equipped and with beautiful views up the valley to Pic du Canigou, snow-capped still in late April. The service from the owner was fast and efficient and very helpful with odd extras like cots/stair gates. I would certainly recommend it to others.
The village of Fulla is small and peaceful and the locals very friendly, and there is a good range of restaurants in Villafranche de Conflent, a few minutes away by car, and good shops/supermarkets (we preferred Super U ) in Prades about 6km.
Not all local attractions were open in mid April - but there is pelnty to do. We had some great walking ( usually after using the car to gain a lot of height!) and an excellent day at the unusual Parc Animalier in Casteil and one on the beach.

Great stay, beautiful location
We had a fantastic stay at Mimosa and miss the glorious view everyday still.
The Villa has a homely feel and is well equipped and kept clean and tidy.
Thanks for the local wine left for our arrival!
There's something for everyone to do with historic sightseeing all around, amazing countryside and the mountains nearby for hiking and adventures. We could have even skii'd if we'd wanted to- amazing for April!
We will be back soon. Thank you for a relaxing break.
About the host
Hosted by Katie Gander
Our family has had connections with the French Pyrenees since the 1970s when my grandfather bought a plot of land in the hope of building a holiday home. This took rather longer than predicted! Over the years though we have grown to love this corner of France and are happy to share the knowledge and experience we have to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible.
We live on the south coast of the UK and regularly go over to France to enjoy the sunshine and amazing scenery. With children growing children we have tested out the suitability of the region for families and can happily report that there is plenty to keep all ages happy including outdoor adventure parks, old castles to explore and lovely sandy beaches combined with great food and wine there is lots for adults too!
Why they chose this property
We purchased the land in Fuilla where the house is back in 2005, the location is stunning in a quiet village with amazing views of Mount Canigou. We were lucky to then be given the planning permission to build the house and a busy few years ensued with all the different aspects of managing such a big project whilst living in the UK.
The house was completed in 2009. Fuilla is now part of the Catalan Pyrenees Natural Park which is recognised as being an area of outstanding natural beauty. If you enjoy French food you will not be disappointed staying here, There are many restaurants in nearby villages including one in the village and another one just up the road in Sahorre.
What makes this property unique
We really enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life when at Fuilla. It is peaceful and in a sheltered valley so it often catches the sunshine when nearby Prades is cloudy.
With amazing views of Mount Canigou you can sit back and enjoy this or plan your route for walking up it if you want to be more active. It is very often warm and sunny and having a swimming pool makes it the perfect spot to relax with children. They are often happy to stay at the house and swim but it it great to know there is such a good variety of things to do very nearby. Villefranche de Conflent is just down the road and is a World Heritage Unesco Site, it is a very well preserved Cathar medieval fortified town - its a bit like a miniature Carcassonne!
