We had a lovely 3 night stay. The cottage was really clean, had every thing we needed and a brand new gorgeous bathroom. The bed was really comfy and lovely linen, which is important to me! The location was perfect. Walking distance to the little harbour, the shops and pubs/restaurants. The cottage is small but exactly as advertised and for 2 people, it’s perfect.

Ideally Situated
The cottage is very well situated for easy access to Kingsbridge on foot and on the flat too. It's very well appointed, we didn't really want for anything. It's warm and cosy, bed was incredibly comfortable, kitchen has everything you'd reasonably need. Car parking in an allocated slot 3 minutes walk from the cottage and no problems there. Staircase is a little steep with 3 or 4 steps at the bottom so that is something to consider if you're less mobile. But otherwise - we really enjoyed our stay. Would we stay again? Definitely, yes!

Ideally situated very near to town centre and all amenities. The property was clean, quaint and comfortable. Ideal for a couple visiting Kingsbridge. The allocated parking space was really convenient and only a short walk from the cottage. Despite the town centre location, it was quiet and peaceful. We would definitely stay here again.

Dirty and unfriendly neighbours
Very disappointed with this property. On arrival I had to spend the first hour cleaning the kitchen, bathroom and hoovered the stairs. It had quite clearly not been cleaned since the previous occupants…there was caked on poo in the toilet bowl. The neighbours clearly have an issue with the fact that this property is being rented out. We had been out all day on the Saturday and returned at 1700 hours,,,at 1730 hours our small dog barked once…& within seconds the next door neighbour was banging on the front door shouting at us and telling us that she had repeatedly reported it to the authorities that dogs were barking in this holiday rental?! I messaged the owner of this property about this however he completely ignored me!! Totally ruined our holiday to be honest…complete waste of money!!

Really handy for all the amenities of Kingsbridge. Nice little cottage, stairs perhaps a challenge for older folk like us. Car parking was good considering the snugness of the location.

Short stay in kingsbridge
Cottage was a very good base for exploring places in Dartmouth. Clean and tidy cottage. Cottage itself had everything we needed. However the cottage could've done with a bit of a make over. Pictures on walls. End of bath. Bedlinen . Bed was comfortable. There was a little hole in the window in the bathroom. Also when you got in the shower you overlooked a public footpath. Overall we enjoyed our stay

Family get together
The property was small but perfectly formed! It was spotlessly clean with plenty of sanitizer and cleaning products. The position of the cottage was great, walking distance of all Kingsbridge facilities. Following days at the beach it was a pleasure to come back to our little, cosy bolt hole!

Lovely cottage, central location
Gardeners Cottage is lovely, perfect for a couple. It's small but clean, well equipped and comfortable. The bed was comfy and the bathroom surprisingly large. We did not manage to park outside the cottage but it's fine to pull up outside to load and unload the car. There is a secure parking place reserved for the cottage a very short walk away which is very easy to find and very convenient. The cottage is located just a short distance from the main High Street and harbour area. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs close by, within a couple of minutes walk. This does make the area quite busy with cars and people passing by, but fabulous for going out for a meal or a drink in the evening. No need for a designated driver or a taxi!! The harbour area is very pretty and the river trip down to Salcombe well worth doing. Kingsbridge has lots of lovely independent shops along the High Street so it is interesting browsing up and down as it's so different from the usual town centre. We really enjoyed our visit to SouthDevon and will definitely be back.

A lovely cosy cottage for 2 in the heart of Kingsbridge, clean, well equipped and steeped in history
We stayed at Gardeners Cottage in the middle of September with our dog and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We loved being in the heart of the town which has so much to offer. Everything is in easy reach: beautiful beaches (South Milton Sands is a must), National Trust properties, Dartmoor. We took the bus to Dartmouth (lovely route along the coast). We also visited Hope Cove - one of our favourite places. It was lovely coming home to Gardeners Cottage after a day out. We will be returning soon. Thank you Mike.

About the host

Host profile image
I moved to Kingsbridge, south Devon from Buckinghamshire, retiring early, twenty years ago.
I have always loved the countryside and its wildlife and am enjoying living in this beautiful part of England.

Why they chose this property

The row of cottages were built around 1840 and lived in by brewery and mill workers at the time.

In the 1960s and 70s the cottages were scheduled for demolition, but fortunately saved and now Grade II listed, as can be seen by the original wooden sash windows with the old wonkey glass.

As a consequence, any changes have been done in a sympathetic manner, but at the same time making it a warm, welcoming place to stay.

What makes this property unique

The cottage has level access to the centre of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge Quay), just a few minutes walk.

Secure designated off-road parking space 150 meters from cottage.

Close to several restaurants and pubs within minutes
walk.

Close to bus station, forget your car and travel to Dartmouth/Plymouth/Salcombe/Totnes or ferry to Salcombe.

Access to an area 'of outstanding natural beauty' with many unspoilt natural beaches.
